My Kitchen Rules 2023 Recap Episode 2: Sonia and Marcus argue like…well, mother and son

It’s episode two of My Kitchen Rules 2023 and during the episode, we travelled to Adelaide, South Australia, where mother and son team Sonia and Marcus have combined their traditional and contemporary ideas for their three-course menu.

The food tech teacher and TikTok foodie have invited the guests and judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge to their pop-up Nothing’s Off The Table, a homage to family and their love for each other.

It’s a place where they talk and listen, and anything goes…. including some more Claudean drama.

While Sonia and Marcus start out strong, things go pear-shaped when Marcus stops listening to his mother…

The drama

At the table, the other contestants are eager to get to know the newest ‘it couple’ Tommy and Rach and want to learn more about their dynamic.

When Claudean interrogates them, they’re adamant that they’re just friends. Meanwhile, Nick is thrilled because he has serious heart-eyes for Rach.

Later in the evening during a game of “Sour and Sweet moments of the night,” Nick admitted that the sweetest moment of the evening was finding out Rach was single. CUTE!

Meanwhile, Christian has already had enough of Claudean and confronts her. She basically says his “wankery” talking pisses her off but backtracks and compliments the young generation at the table and their enthusiasm for food. LOL.

The Block Recap Episode 19: Kristy steals Steph’s couch and other such Mean Girls antics

It’s episode 19 of The Block 2023 and Foreman Keith is sick of everyone’s sh**t. Given that there’s practically an entire house still left to build, we feel very sorry for him.

Further to this, he feels like he has been spoon-feeding the Blockheads and their builders and makes his feelings known as he walks around the building site. Keith is not happy and somebody needs to get the man a McCafe coffee, stat!

Dan and myself are putting in every piece for every contestant. It’s not the way we do it,” he tells Leah, before later saying to Steph: “We’re not going to keep holding your hands through every piece of this build.”

Foreman Keith. Nine

Meanwhile, Kyle and Leslie are really struggling with their layout after their decision to include a $16,000 dining table designed by Christian Cole while Kristy and Leah go off to the shops together, holding hands and skipping…

They are off to purchase a couch for Kristy’s home that Steph wanted, which is actually a bit s**t on their part. She even goes as far as cancelling another piece she has ordered, in order to secure the ~bEigE~ piece of furniture. Egged on by Leah, this show is truly turning into a series of Mean Girls.

The couch in question. Nine

The weekly BOB (Best on Block) award is then given to Leah and Ash, who received $10,000 towards their budget.

Then, it’s challenge day, and the contestants head to Footscray in Melbourne to compete in a metalwork blacksmith challenge. Thankfully, this is a skill that they can actually use, unlike the cooked breakdancing challenge from episode 16!

Eliza and Liberty. Nine

Even with work to be done, Kristy continues her vendetta against Steph, this time telling her off for the way she speaks to Gian before Leah and Ash are once again named the winners and bank another $5,000.

And just like the previous day, Eliza and Liberty can’t help but comment on how Leah and Ash suck at winning…

The divide is well and truly on, on The Block.

Despite their differences, Claudean and Anthony complement each other well. Claudean is outspoken, assertive, and resilient, while Anthony is warm, friendly, patient, and composed.

Together, they manage a food market stall where they offer traditional Italian dishes, sauces, and desserts. When Anthony is not assisting Claudean with food preparation, deliveries, and customer service, he runs his floor sanding business.

Interview: Colin Fassnidge shares the behind-the-scenes favouritism Manu Feildel gets on MKR

MKR judge Colin Fassnidge has lifted the lid on what happens when the cameras aren’t filming and suggested that fellow judge Manu Feildel gets some favouritism.

During an interview with Chattr, Fassnidge said that the production staff tend to cater to Feildel’s needs more than they do to his.

“When we film we have like a campervan at the back. So when we’re on our break, we’ll go out there,” Fassnidge explained.

MKR. Seven.

How does production favour Manu?

Fassnidge added that both judges shared the campervan, and it’s essentially their trailer where they hang out when they’re not shooting scenes for the cooking show.

“Frenchie [Feildel], to stop himself from getting grumpy, he likes to have a little sleep in between courses,” he said. “He always gets the makeup girls in the wardrobe girls to put a blanket over him and he gets a pillow and a little eye mask.”

Fassnidge said that Feildel takes up the bed in the van, which leaves him to sit at the table and wait.

“He always takes up the back of the campervan. And I’m like the younger brother who has to sit at the camping table, you know, in the middle of the van. And I’m like, ‘Well, when do I get to lie down?’

“[Manu] is the man who gets all the little perks from all the ladies. They all make sure he’s warm and whatnot. Because some nights it’s like freezing. But, what about me?” He laughed.

MKR. Seven.

How long have both judges been on MKR?

In terms of tenure on MKR, Feildel does have a slight advantage. He’s been a Series Judge since the show’s inception in 2010 and is currently on his 13th season.

Meanwhile, Fassnidge has been part of MKR since season four which was filmed in 2013. However, he was a Blind Tasting and Panel Judge until series 11, where he became a Series Judge.

The Traitors Recap Episode 8: Do the Faithfuls even stand a chance anymore?

It’s episode eight of The Traitors Australia 2023 and it’s looking as though we’ve almost hit the point of no return for the Faithfuls.

Ultimate Traitor Sam pranced his way down to the breakfast as he knew that another Faithful had been murdered overnight. After fellow Traitors Camille and Blake join him at breaky, as well as Liam, Sarah and Gloria, everyone learns that Hannah didn’t make it through the night.

Once again, the remaining Faithfuls are (rightfully) growing suspicious that Sam is a Traitor and vow to get him out at the next banishment.

The Challenge

The challenge saw the remaining contestants paired off. One was blindfolded and directed by the non-blindfolded contestant to find particular items inside an old shop.

The team manages to collect eight silver bars, adding $16,000 to their prize pot, bringing the total to $162,000.

Post-challenge Liam makes it clear that he *knows* Sam is a Faithful and tries to rally the troops to vote out Blake. Of course, Sam is on board, however, Camille, Sarah and Gloria get together to try to target Sam.

Sam and Camile on The Traitors episode 8

The Banishment

Gloria urged the group to vote for Sam, and stressed that it was their last chance to get a Traitor out, otherwise, the game was over. She pointed out that the fact that no one was murdered when he had the shield as suspicious.

She said that the group should look at people who appear innocent, and Sam shifted the target onto her. Liam quickly agreed, and Blake reluctantly admitted that he thinks Gloria has been flying under the radar and is a Traitor too.

Liam on The Traitors episode 8

Everyone ended up voting for Gloria and she was banished. When it was announced that she was a Faithful, the group was furious and Liam set his sites firmly on Sam.

Much to the Faithful’s relief, Roger Corser announced that there would be no murders tonight.

The Traitors airs on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at 7.30 pm on 10 and 10 Play.

My Kitchen Rules 2023 Recap Episode 1: Tommy and Rach serve up garlic-flavoured dessert

It’s episode one of My Kitchen Rules 2023 and Manu Feildel and “daddy” Colin Fassnidge are travelling around the country to find the best home cooks.

The competition kicked off in Perth, WA with friends Tommy and Rach. They are besties and flatmates who swear that they’re not in love, especially because they don’t do the hippity-dippity.

The first to cook, they were hoping their Instant Restaurant, The Saucy Spoon would dish up amazing food and some perfect scores.

Tommy and Rach. Seven

Entrée

Rottnest scallops with white puree and tarragon & miso butter

Judging:

  • The scallops were cooked to perfection; however, they were too light-handed with their flavours.
  •  Colin and Manu were looking for more punch from their tarragon and miso butter.
Seven.

Main

Crispy duck leg with blackberry & port jus and potato gratin

  • The duck was perfectly succulent and the skin crispy
Seven.

Dessert

Chocolate-coated pear ice cream with cookie crumb

Seven.

Judging

  • The judges and the guests were left with a sour taste in their mouths.
  • Colin invited Tommy and Rach to taste some and they discovered it was the garnish they had used, a tiny purple flower. Given that it was actually savoury, it had an overpowering taste of garlic!

The Scoring

  • Sonia and Marcus – 7
  • Radha and Prabha – 7
  • Coco and Pearls – 7
  • Nick and Christian – 7
  • Claudean and Anthony – 6

Total Score: 78

Manu

  • Entrée – 8
  • Main – 10
  • Dessert – 4

Colin

  • Entrée – 7
  • Main – 9
  • Desert – 6

Total Score: 34

The drama

While the star of the show was the food, Claudean — who said she would 100% become “the most hated woman in Australia” — became increasingly annoyed by Christian’s wordy and technical critiques.

Just before dessert, she explodes, calling Christian a “wanker”. Needless to say, the table is shocked with many jumping to Christian’s defence.

Claudean. Seven

On top of this, Claudean wasn’t impressed by Coco and Pearls who began flirting with her husband Anthony, saying they really “got up her snoz”. At one point, Claudean called “the Barbie twins” “strippers”! Ouch!

The Block Recap Episode 18: Leah and Ash waste no time giving Scotty Cam all the juicy tea

It’s episode 18 of The Block — the start of Living and Dining Room week — and Eliza and Liberty have woken up feeling dejected after Marty Fox‘s harsh criticisms of their moss wall.

The pair have now decided he’s Public Enemy number one and say that they want “comments that help us”, which is completely fair.

Eliza. Nine

Given that it’s Monday, it was time for the Domain Open For Inspections and the divide between the contestants continues to fester.

In the blue corner are Kyle and Leslie, Steph and Gian and Eliza and Liberty, and in the red corner, we have Kristy and Brett and Leah and Ash.

While Leah is usually the one with the gripe, this time she can’t stop saying “winning”, “winners” and “win” causing Eliza and Liberty to say she and Ash are both “bad winners and bad losers.”

Leah. Nine

Meanwhile, our Blockheads are having some budget issues. Jo from Finance visits and unsurprisingly, Eliza and Liberty and Kristy and Brett are struggling the most.

Finally, we see some building as the teams begin their Living and Dining Rooms. Steph decides to put the dining room where the kitchen was according to the original plans.

Kyle and Leslie, once again, have a small space and are finding a way to incorporate a table from Block favourite Christian Cole. It has an inbuilt lazy Susan and is valued at $16,000.

Nine

After winning last week, Leah and Ash head to Kyneton for dinner with Scotty Cam and admit there is a divide amongst the Blockheads. She also uses the opportunity to throw Steph under the bus, saying that she gives too much advice.

Scotty Cam, Leah and Ash. Nine

Then, it was time to head to Urban Surf for Eliza’s birthday and it seemed like everyone was having a great time (for now) as Kristy took out the surfing challenge.

My Kitchen Rules 2023: Meet ‘Twindians’, Radha and Prabha

Identical twins Radha and Prabha are equally as likely to confuse the judges about who’s who as they are to impress them. The Indian sisters claim that they can read each other’s minds, and have coined their cooking style as “twindian”.

In a particularly touching moment in the trailer, Radha and Prabha manage to bring Judge Colin Fassnidge to tears when they serve up a dish in their instant restaurant that’s dedicated to their late father.

“We lost our dad when we were two. Every time we cook a dish, it reminds us of him,” they said. “We were able to give tribute to our dad.”

My Kitchen Rules 2023: Meet the fanciest pair ever, Coco and Pearls

With resplendent names like Coco and Pearls, it should come as little surprise that the MKR 2023 contestants prefer the fancier things in life.

“We are strong alpha females. We know what we want and we know how to get it,” the women said in their intro clip. “We’ve eaten some of the finest food. We know good taste.”

The NSW-based pair aren’t afraid to shake things up either, whether that means grimacing at another team’s food or stepping into another team’s kitchen to shake things up.

MKR. Seven.

“We’re prepared to do whatever it takes in order to try and get ahead,” Coco said with ominous villain-like music playing in the background.

Things are further escalated when Coco said: “If I’m second, I may as well be last,” before adding: “If not if we win, it’s when we win.”

My Kitchen Rules 2023: Meet Tommy and Rach

In the past, MKR Australia contestants have often been friends, relatives or lovers – however, the upcoming season will shake things up a bit with the news that one duo is actually in a situationship.

For the uninitiated, situationships are relationships where the two people aren’t officially *dating* but have an ongoing romantic connection.

“Our relationship is almost as if we are dating. It’s a little bit complicated,” contestant Tommy explained.

“We are not in a relationship romantically,” added Rach, who’s not Tommy’s girlfriend.

Tommy and Rach are housemates and live in Melbourne, but are representing Western Australia: Rach’s home state.

Who else is competing on My Kitchen Rules 2023?

So far, Tommy and Rach are the only contestants that have been announced for the upcoming season.

Who’s judging MKR 2023?

Popular judge Manu Feildel will be returning to judge the new season of MKR, and Colin Fassnidge will be joining him, after spending last season as a guest judge. Later in the season established My Kitchen Rules judge Nigella Lawson will be joining them at Kitchen HQ.

Who won last season?

Sydney couple Janelle and Monzir were crowned the 2022 winners of MKR after they narrowly beat radiation therapists and close friends Kate and Mary by just two points.

Their winning score was decided by the 2022 judges Manu Feildel, Curtis Stone and Colin Fassnidge.

“We won, we actually won! It doesn’t matter where you came from, you can achieve anything you want. There is no limit. This means everything to us,” Janelle said of the achievement at the time.

Monzir gave his mum a sweet shout-out on the episode. “Thank you, mum, for teaching me everything and thank you for your support,” he said.

My Kitchen Rules 2023: Meet the firey mother-son team, Sonia and Marcus

My Kitchen Rules 2023 has checked off their standard mother-and-child-team-box with Sonia and Marcus.

However, the Adelaide-based mum-and-son duo are far from cookie-cutter. With Italian, quite literally, in their blood, they’ve got some impressive European cooking skills to bring to the kitchen.

The food-loving family team also fight like cats and dogs and is sure to bring some entertainment to the season, as well as some mouth-watering Italian food.

MKR
Sonia and Marcus. MKR.

“If they [the judges and the guest teams] could see what was going on, they would think they were at the circus,” Sonia says of her and Marcus’s dynamic in the kitchen.

Nick and Christian are best mates who will be competing against the other teams on My Kitchen Rules 2023 in the hope of taking out the title, as well as the $100,000 cash prize.

The men met 12 years ago while studying drama together. Nick was going through a bad breakup at the time and Christian helped cheer him up.

Not long after, Nick and Christian moved in together, and their friendship took off quickly. Christian works as a restaurant supervisor while Nick is a venue manager for a pub. During the pandemic, they took their love for cooking online and amassed over 900k views on TikTok.

When it comes to their cooking style, both men love meat and are inspired by Greek and Mediterranean dishes, as well as modern Australian.

The Traitors Recap Episode 7: A new Traitor joins the team

It’s episode seven of The Traitors Australia 2023 and the group was quickly growing suspicious that Sam and Blake were The Traitors.

In order to throw the other contestants off their tracks, Sam pressured Blake to recruit a new Traitor with an offer of war or peace. The duo recruited Camille, who ultimately joined them on the dark side.

At breakfast, Sam justified the murder-free night by saying that he wore the Shield he’d won from the previous competition, which stopped the murder.

Liam lapped up Sam’s story and told the group that the Traitors must have tried to murder Sam, and stated that he must be a Faithful.

The Traitors. Ten.

The Challenge

For the challenge, Hannah and Sarah were locked up with a map describing the grounds the contestants were on. The locked-up women must direct the rest of the contestants to specific spots in order to find barrels that contain keys that will unlock them from their prison.

The group freed the captives and collected 15 bars of silver, meaning they added $30,000 to the pot.

The Traitors. Ten.

Who was banished?

The group initially targeted Keith until Hannah mentioned that Traitors can fake murder themselves if they have a shield.

However, in the end, despite this valuable piece of information, Hannah, Sarah and Liam plus the three Traitors, Camille, Sam and Blake still decided to banish Keith and he was eliminated from the game.

The Traitors. Ten.

The trio of Traitors headed back to the tower and celebrated Camille’s first Banishment. They then turned their attention to the next person to be murdered, and both Hannah and Gloria were considered as strong contenders.

The Traitors airs on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at 7.30 pm on 10 and 10 Play.

Steph and Gian‘s Japandi style is becoming a hot topic and Foreman Keith hates the custom-made stone vanity in their powder room this week.

Kristy and Brett and builder Dan stress over the plans for the rest of the house, meanwhile the late nights are getting to Steph and Gian as they bicker trying to get their room finished.

Room Reveals

House 1: Kyle and Leslie – $18,352

The smallest room in Block history was very well received by the judges.

  • Shaynna Blaze loved the vanity and said it was a “bloody good room,”.
  • Marty Fox felt when the buyers entered the power room, they would know they were looking at a high-end property.
  • Darren Palmer loved the art choices.

House 2: Leah and Ash – $25,389

  • Shaynna noted that Leah and Ash love marble and wondered how expensive their room would be. She also loved the art-deco vase.
  • Marty felt they had listened to the advice of the judges and had delivered a stunning room.

House 3: Kristy and Brett – $33,718

  • Shaynna thought the whole room was very glamorous and praised Kristy and Brett for all of their choices, including the amazing tiles.
  • Marty loved what Kristy and Brett delivered, but did criticise the lack of underfloor heating.

House 4: Steph and Gian – $24,854

  • The judges loved the custom-made stone vanity and bench top.
  • Their biggest criticism was the placement of the toilet given that you could see it clearly from the door if you were outside in the hallway.

House 5: Eliza and Liberty – $37,409

  • Unsurprisingly, the moss wall was the biggest talking point with the judges. Shaynna and Marty absolutely hated it, while Darren was somewhat on the fence.
  • Everything else was well done including the note that The room was very functional.

Scoring

Leah and Ash use the gnome they won at an earlier challenge to just take the win from their friends Kristy and Brett. Lol.

Interview: The real reason Bumpa Love was eliminated from RuPaul’s Drag Race season 3

Bumpa Love bid farewell to RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under on episode six. However, she’s revealed that there was more to her elimination than what appeared in the show.

During an exclusive interview with Chattr, Bumpa Love said that she was left scrambling after she wasn’t able to obtain the right to perform her intended song in the final challenge where she faced off against Gabriella Labucci.

“I f**king sucked in that challenge! It’s not what I had planned. I actually had a track that I recorded in Melbourne, and it got cleared in Melbourne. But then I had to reapply for the license in New Zealand and it came the day after we filmed so I had to come up with that s**t in two hours,” she said.

“So I’m not proud of that [performance]. But, yeah I deserved to go because it wasn’t my best work,” she added.

So what was Bumpa Love’s intended performance? The queen revealed that it was a track that she’d written called Bumpa’s Away. “It has an R&B feel,” she explained.

What’s next for Bumpa Love?

Now that Bumpa Love’s time is officially over on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, the popular drag queen has big plans in sight.

“I really want to work in TV and film and on stage now because I’ve been working in drag, clubs, my own venue and doing gigs for such a long time now that I’d really love now to concentrate on TV and film.

While Bumpa Love is interested in diving into acting roles, she’d also love to appear in some more reality TV shows.

“I think they need to get me on The Block. I love The Block!” She said. “Or Love Island. I can give some loving advice – just one episode, I can light it up in there!”
