Interview: No, The Block 2023 contestants were not cast to cause drama

With all the conflict on The Block 2023, it’s easy to assume that casting played a part in manufacturing the drama, however, a Network Nine bigwig has confirmed that’s not the case.

An anonymous production source told Yahoo Lifestyle that The Block production team set out to find women who were “highly competitive with an insatiable need to be liked”.

They added: “Last year the houses were too far apart and we realised that the usual tension was missing… We immediately knew we needed to change that this season.”

But, Nine’s Head of Content, Production and Development, Adrian Swift told Chattr during an interview before the series premiere that the production team didn’t cast contestants based on their ability to cause drama with one another.

“There is nothing we engineer,” he said. “This is nothing that we produce to get a lot more drama between the contestants, [it just happens] because they’re in such close proximity.”

“We cast purely on: ‘What will they bring to the show?’ We try and balance the guys, we try and balance it by skill level, we try and balance it by state, we try and make sure there’s always diversity in the cast. We try and make sure that the relationships aren’t all offensive, for example, that they’re not all couples.” he added.

“You can’t introduce too many variables into the cast otherwise you don’t get a full deck of cards.”

While many fans have speculated that younger contestants were cast this year in the hope of added drama, Swift made a point of saying that it wasn’t a concerted effort.

“We didn’t go how can we make a younger this year,” he said. “I’ll be honest, it does feel that way and I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing but it certainly wasn’t something we set out to achieve.”

How does The Block weave in drama?

Swift also explained that the show tries to focus on home renovation first and foremost, and aims to stay away from unrelated conflict.

“I think what you’ve got to do is remember that it’s a show about renovating. And it’s an argument we always have, it’s a show about renovating, and you can have drama provided in the context of what they’re doing to their properties,” he said.

“Drama is something you’ve got to be very careful of. It can overwhelm shows, and the audience don’t like drama for drama’s sake,” he added.

“But if there is a kind of thing going on, that speaks to the arc of the story then you can indulge in it a little bit. I think we’ve done it in a context that the audience will like and understand.”

The Block Australia continues on 10 and 10Play on 7:00pm on August 13.

The Block 2023 Recap Episode 4: Leah declares Steph is “a snake”…and some building happens

It’s episode four of The Block 2023 and there are only four more days until the studio bathrooms must be complete and to say some of our Blockheads are struggling is an understatement!

Here are the highlights from episode three of The Block 2023.

Steph and Gian are still on struggle street

Steph and Gian are still a while away from waterproofing, having missed Waterproof Wednesday during episode three and are having serious issues with Ryan and his building crew; however, Foremen Keith and Dan are keeping an eye on it and we feel like this won’t be the last of it.

Four Blockheads go shopping

Meanwhile, luck is on the side of Kyle and Leslie from House No.1 who have secured the infamous Cursio brothers to do their tiling; however, Eliza and Liberty are not so blessed as their tiler decides to walk off the job, before even starting.

In happier news, Leah, Liberty, Kristy and Leslie, all go shopping together sans Steph…unsurprisingly.

Steph’s dad arrives and Leah’s daughter ends up with stitches

Being the youngest contestant, it’s no surprise that Steph is letting the ~jOurNey~ get to her, and welcomes a visit from her dad.

However, over in House No. 2, disaster strikes as Leah gets a call saying that her young daughter Marnie had to have stitches in her head after a fall. Naturally, it’s an emotional moment and Leah and Ash struggle with being far away from their young family.

Real Estate agent drama

The Blockheads meet their realtors for the first time, however, drama is afoot as Leah sees Steph with Lana from Whitefox real estate – her realtor!

While she was PISSED, nothing shady was actually happening, given that Steph had locked in Aaron from Ray White two days earlier. Jumping to conclusions, Leah thinks Steph is trying to steal Lana, calling her “a snake” when speaking about it with Kristy.

Lana and Aaron. Nine

“It’s game on moles,” she says and seriously, is it really an Aussie reality show if someone didn’t say it?!

Just a few days in and we have serious drama already on The Block. What a ride.

The Block 2023: Meet Lana Samuels from Whitefox Real Estate

It’s realtor time on The Block 2023 and this year, Lana Samuels from Whitefox Real Estate is ready to get a house on Charming Street sold.

Given she’s set to become the centre of some drama between Leah and Steph during episode three, we thought it was high time to introduce you to the stunning brunette, ready to work her magic.

According to their official website, Samuels is their Sales Director and has “played a pivotal role in Whitefox’s growth over the last five years”.

She’s also risen through the ranks as their first-ever client, then was EA to The Block’s newcomer Marty Fox and is now a fierce negotiator and director.

Lana Samuels. Instagram

How did Lana get into Real Estate?

A well-known face in the Melbourne real estate community, Samuels was working in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry in London.

When she came back home for a holiday, her dad told her about “this guy Marty Fox” and after meeting him at a property in Elwood, Melbourne, they “instantly connected”, selling her a house then and there.

“He was so good at sales, he actually signed me up on the spot,” Samuels said during an interview with the Humans of Real Estate podcast.

“We weren’t finance approved. We’d just started [looking for homes] a week prior when we’d landed.”

(L-R) Michael Torcasio, Lana Samuels and Marty Fox. Instagram

As fate would have it, it turned out that Samuels and Fox’s wife Charlotte had been friends since they were 15 years old. Next thing she knew, she was being told about Fox’s new venture, Whitefox and upon meeting for a second time, he told her: “You’re going to end up working for me.”

At this point, Samuels was headed back to the UK but kept an eye on the blossoming business.

“Watching the way they were cracking the code and standing out, threw me instantly and I thought, ‘If I’m ever going to do it. I think the time is now.'”

She and her husband then made the decision, got on a plane and she started the next day. So cool!

The Block airs on Sunday at 7:00pm and continues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Fans are convinced that the original judges are returning to MasterChef Australia

The OG MasterChef Australia trio George Colombaris, Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan have confirmed that they’re working on a “very special project” together.

George shared a video of the three men discussing food on a Zoom call, and the post has fans convinced it’s a hint that they’ll be returning to the popular cooking show as judges.

“Some serious food talk for a very special project but majority a lot of shots and giggles with @garymehigan @mattscravat Gc xxxx 😂😂😂.” George captioned the clip.

“Come back, come back! Need the terrific trio back now,” one user commented on the post, another penned: “I really hope you guys host the next season of MasterChef.”

A third wrote: “Can’t wait to see them on TV together again… such a fun dynamic trio.”

Who are the current MasterChef judges?

Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen have been the judges of MasterChef Australia since season 12, which aired in 2020. Jock passed away in April 2023, one day before the 15th season was scheduled to air.

MasterChef. Ten.

The show’s release date was pushed back a week after the news of his death broke, and the final episode starring the celebrity chef aired on July 16.

It has not been confirmed whether Andy and Melissa will return as judges for MasterChef Australia 2024.

Why did George, Matt and Gary leave MasterChef?

George, Matt and Gary were the first set of judges to appear on MasterChef Australia and were at the helm for 11 seasons.

In July 2019 Channel 10 announced that they wouldn’t be returning for season 12 because the network was unable to “reach a commercial agreement that was satisfactory to Matt, Gary and George”.

MasterChef. Ten.

Their departure from the hit cooking show was officially confirmed by Network 10 in a statement released shortly after.

“Across 11 sensational seasons, MasterChef Australia has established itself as one of the most popular and respected cooking television series around the world. For more than a decade, the iconic series has shaped and driven the Australian public’s passion for food and cooking, delivered iconic television moments, and made the culinary dreams of everyday home cooks come true,” the statement began.

“We would like to thank Gary, George and Matt for their contribution over the past 11 years.

MasterChef Australia has always been about ordinary Australians doing extraordinary things for the love of food and we believe it is very important to continue that ethos.

“Australia is full of remarkable cooking talent and we can’t wait to introduce another group – and the next generation of exceptional judges – in season 12 of MasterChef Australia next year.”

Below Deck Down Under’s Margot speaks after crew members were fired for sexual misconduct

Below Deck Down Under season two stew Margot Sisson has broken her silence after two crew members were fired for sexual misconduct.

CONTENT WARNING: This article contains information about sexual assault and may be triggering to some readers.

Bosun Luke Jones and Stew Laura Bileskalne were terminated by Captain Jason Chambers for acting inappropriately during a crew night off.

What did Margot say about the inappropriate conduct?

Shortly after the episode aired, Margot took to her Instagram to thank her fellow crew members Aesha, Jason, Tzarina, Harry and Adam for how they handled the situation.

Margot said that Aesha was “both heroic and admirable” for intervening and bringing the incident to Captain Jason’s attention.

She thanked Captain Jason for his “immediate response” to the situation and said that are a “lot of captains who would choose to sweep something like this under the rug,” adding that she’s “grateful” that he isn’t one of them.

Margot thanks Harry with a brief message before saying that Adam came to her after he found out about the incident and supported her. She added that didn’t know about his “situation” with Laura at the time but said she wishes she could go back and “be there for him more.”

You can read the full statement Margot posted below:

What did Luke Jones do?

After a night out at a bar, the crew headed back to the boat and Chief Stew Aesha Scott noticed that Luke was being overly flirty with Margot, who was extremely drunk.

Luke Jones. Hayu.

“I don’t want any drunkenness to be taken advantage of,” Aesha told Margot. “So I’d just like to see you get into bed safely. I’ll get you water.”

Margot agreed and went to bed. However, after she fell asleep, a naked Luke climbed into her bed. Producers stepped in and told Luke to get out of Margot’s bed, telling him that “she said no”. Luke angrily stormed back to his own room.

Aesha comforted Margot and asked if she consented to Luke being in her bed.

“No, I was asleep. I did not invite that at all,” she replied.

Aesha went straight to Captain Jason and explained what happened, and he ordered Luke off the boat for the night and then met with him the next morning and fired him.

Below Deck. Hayu.

“Last night there were boundaries crossed,” he told the bosun. “There was indecency and you went into someone’s else cabin without consent. Unfortunately, I’ve got nothing else but to terminate your employment.”

Why was Laura Bileskalne fired?

Laura was the second crew member to be fired for sexual misconduct, which occurred on the same night as Luke’s. Laura repeatedly made advances on deckhand Adam after he made it clear he wasn’t interested. At one point in the night, she tried to give him a massage in bed when he was trying to sleep.

Aesha spoke with Adam who explained that it made him feel uncomfortable, and Aesha reported it to Captain Jason, who fired Laura.

The Block 2023 Recap Episode 3: Leah and Steph continue their rivalry and secrets are hidden

It’s episode three of The Block 2023 and the first rooms are well and truly underway. While the paint is being splashed and rooms are coming together, tensions become sky-high between Leah and Steph.

With six days to go in the first week, our Blockheads are only now coming to terms with the early wake-up calls and late-night, ahem… hammering.

Leah and Foreman Keith. Nine

Here are the highlights from episode two of The Block Australia 2023.

Steph cannot read house plans and Leah breaks down

Over in House 5, Eliza and Liberty’s parents are extremely sceptical about them being on the show, which to be honest, is too little too late because LOL. They’re already there.

While they’ve been upfront about their lack of reno experience, it turns out House No.1’s Kyle and Leslie also have zero experience…which is hilarious because why do these people go on this show?!

Meanwhile, House No. 4’s Steph, who is an ~ArChiTecT~, struggles to read the plans. Given that she literally does this for a living, it knocks her confidence square in the face.

Then, Leah delivers the first tears of the season, crying to her mum that The Block is “harder than it looks on TV”.

Leah and Ash. Nine

Leah and Ash decide to do a curved roof which has never been done before…however, unbeknownst to them, Kyle and Leslie are also doing a curved roof.

Unfortunately, Foreman Keith says it’s a terrible idea and suggests to House No. 1’s builder to push back on the “impossible” task.

Steph and Gian are still on struggle street, realising that the height of their roof is off, which will impact their stairs but are determined to go for the all-important ‘waterproof Wednesday’, aka Block lore.

“It’s chaos, to be honest,” Foreman Dan says, worried about the “shambles” that is Steph and Gian’s team.

Keith and Dan pull Steph aside who assures them she’s on top of it, but she ain’t.

Leah and Kristy form an alliance

Meanwhile, Leah and Kristy have decided to become the mean girls of the season, gossiping about Steph and her decision not to share the price of her bedhead.

“Steph wouldn’t tell me where she got it from or how much it was,” Kristy says as Leah was positively outraged.

Kristy and Leah. Nine

But alas, all is not what it seemed as footage reveals Steph not only telling Kristy how much she paid for it but also telling her she hopes she decides to use it too! DRAH-MA!

Defending her actions in a piece to the camera, Kristy says: “I would suggest that there are two different versions of Steph. One’s on camera, and one’s off camera. And it’s very different conversations that you’re having at both points.” Oop!

Who makes it to Waterproof Wednesday?

While insulating their home is “hell”, Eliza and Liberty push through, making Waterproof Wednesday, as do Kyle and Leslie and Kristie and Brett.

Leah and Ash, on the other hand, narrowly miss out while Steph and Gian don’t even come close. Plus they realise they’re “alienated” from their neighbours. What a ride!

The Block airs on Sunday at 7:00pm and continues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

The Voice Australia 2023 Recap Episode 3: The judges battle it out to secure their team members

It’s episode three of The Voice Australia 2023 and the second Blind Auditions and coaches Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy and Rita Ora all found themselves turning their chairs at the same time on multiple occasions.

See below for the highlights from the 2023 Blind Auditions #3!

Bella Mackenzie

Eighteen-year-old Bella Mackenzie from Queensland impressed all of the judges and got four swift chair turns, and Guy told her that he believes she has what it takes the reach international fame.

“I think I have a new favourite,” he told her. “If I had a record label, I would sign you, not just in Australia but [you have] serious potential to hold your own on the world stage in the country scene.”

She chose to go with Team Guy.

Michaela Jayde

Guy secured another team member in Victorian Michaela Jayde. The 35-year-old turned all four chairs for her performance of Who’s Loving You by Jackson 5. Jess said Michaela’s cappella gave her goosebumps while Rita said she was in “awe” of the performance.

Maree Mamalis

Maree Mamalis continued the trend of turning all four chairs with her performance of Before I Go by Billie Eilish. Guy tried to add Maree to his team but it was Jason who she ended up picking.

“You are a shining light that needs to be shone all over the world,” Jason told Maree.

Charlette Ginu

Charlette Ginu impressed the judges with a creative rendition of Lean On by Major Lazer – she added Indian scales to the song. She got three judges to turn and picked to be on Team Jason.

Dillon Rhodes

Dillion Rhode’s Blind Audition saw yet another four-chair turn from the judges for his performance of White Cherry’s Play That Funky Music. The self-dubbed white ginger who sings soul” chooses team Jess.

We haven’t seen anything like you on this show and that is the truth!” She told him.

Tiarose Burgess

Twenty-year-old Tiarose Burgess from Sydney turned Jessica Mauboy’s chair and was recruited to Team Jess for her performance of Rich Girl by Hall & Oates.

Chris Hodder

Chris Hodder moved both the audience and the judges with his performance and accompanying story. The war veteran sang Ben E. King’s Stand By Me and then spoke about his experience with PTSD and said that his veteran’s assistance dog Bella was his “guardian angel”.

“There are a lot of veterans out there that are struggling, Bella changed my life,” he said about the dog, who joined him on stage.

Unfortunately, Chris’s Blind Audition didn’t turn any chairs.

The Voice continues 7.30pm on Sunday on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Hunted Australia winner Jimi on whether he’ll be sharing his prize money with captured partner Ed

History repeated itself on Hunted Australia 2023 with the two winners being from different teams. Both Holly Colvin and Jimi Love successfully evaded the Hunters and make it to the extraction point, after their partners, Josh Pinata and Ed Abbott were captured.

The two winners split the prize pot and received $50,000 each. While that money was technically awarded to Jimi, the marriage celebrant revealed that he’ll be splitting it with his Fugitive partner Ed.

“He’s getting 25 grand as well. I know that Ed’s excited and he’s going to be looking into getting a hair transplant,” he joked during a post-elimination interview with Chattr.

Hunted. Ten.

“I couldn’t have done this without Ed. And I took all the money [we had left while on the run] and we went out with our own plans, but we were still doing that as a team. So to me, he was just as much of a winner as me.”

“The moment that I realized Ed wasn’t coming was when through the headset I heard the words ‘cleared for takeoff’. And those words, they broke my heart,” he added.

Jimi said that he was unemployed for six months prior to the show, so his share will go towards sorting out his finances, however, he added there’s one splurge purchase he’s got his eye on.

“I really want one of those Apple VR or virtual reality goggles, they look so cool, but it’s like seven or eight thousand Australian dollars and you can only get them in America. That’s on my wish list!”

Jimi on how much he and Ed mocked the Hunters while on the run

Perhaps one of the most memorable moments of Hunted Australia was when Ed and Jimi mercilessly mocked the Hunters by running around in a field and imitating them failing to catch a Fugitive.

Reflecting on the scene, Jimi said that he and Ed killed a lot of their time on the run by making fun of the Hunter’s inability to catch them – which eventually rang true for him.

“We’ve spent so long in areas where we just were not ever seeing other human beings. We didn’t have books, we couldn’t play uno because it was too windy. So all we could do was literally make our own fun. So we would roleplay the Hunters for hours, we would run around pretending to be Hunters,” he explained.

“I feel like we spent 21 days relentlessly mocking the Hunters. And at the end of the day, the Hunters never saw me. I saw the Hunters, but they never saw me. And I’m so lucky that they never saw me because gosh, the mocking I did of them!” He laughed.

Hunted Australia Recap Episode 11: Two Fugitives reached extraction in the gripping finale

It’s the grand final of Hunted Australia 2023 and four Fugitives remained, hoping to reach the Extraction Point and share in $100,000 prize money.

Holly, Jimi, Tharren and Jordan were the only Fugitives remaining in the competition. Holly’s partner Josh and Jimi’s partner Ed were both captured in episode ten after both decided to split from their pair in hopes of evading the Hunters.

In the final episode, all Fugitives had to make a phone call to find out where the Extraction Point is, knowing that this would put their place in the game at risk because it alerted the Hunters to their location.

Holly was safely hidden away in Anglesea with the gardening group that she’d been taken in by in episode ten. She spent her final day bush weeding with them and formed a bond with one of the members named Jasmine. Jasmine let Holly use her phone to call for the extraction point and found out that it was at 2:30pm at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

After Holly placed the call, the Hunters immediately headed to the location the phone was at, but she’d already left for Melbourne to stay with her friend Rob.

The Hunters eventually figured out that Holly was at Rob’s, but Holly was one step ahead and by the time they got there, she was on her way to the extraction point at MCG.

Unfortunately for Holly, Hunted Kim spotted her entering the MCG. A foot chase ensued, and it looked as though Holly may be captured just metres away from the extraction helicopter when she struggled to jump the fence. However, she made her way to the chopper and secured her spot as an escaped Fugitive.

Tharren and Jordan

Tharren and Jordan made their extraction call from a pay phone and left the location quickly after the call was made. They stayed at their friend Ben’s house for the night and attempted to make the 37km journey to the MCG on foot the following morning.

Unbeknownst to them, the Hunters had secured footage of their payphone call and used the information to launch a social media campaign to help find Tharren and Jordan.

Hunted. Ten.

While making their trek to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, a stranger named Adam agreed to give the Fugitives a lift, and they safely arrived at the venue.

However, once they were there, the father-son team mistakenly confused a Hunted team for Fugitives, which gave the Hunters an opportunity to catch them just before they entered the cricket grounds, and were minutes away from being safely extracted.

Jimi

Jimi and Ed had agreed to spend their remaining days on the run separated, in the hope that splitting up would make it harder for the Hunters to catch them. Although Ed had been captured by the Hunters soon after their split, Jimi had no idea and believed he was still on the run.

After making his extraction call, Jimi ended up finding a hotel that he’d previously stayed at and asked them to let him stay without putting down a credit card. Fortunately for him, they agreed and he spent the majority of the money he and Ed had left on the room bill.

Hunted. Ten.

Once at the MCG, Jimi snuck his way from tree to tree and managed to stay mostly hidden until he got to the entrance of the cricket ground.

Then, Jimi made a run for it and quickly made his way down to the grounds and across the field before climbing into the helicopter and discovering that he’d won Hunted.

Jimi waited with bated breath and hoped that his partner Ed would arrive at the helicopter too, however, it was only Holly who made it and the chopper took off with the two winners of Hunted Australia 2023.

The Voice Australia 2023 Recap Episode 2: Pint-size Gezel wows the judges with a powerful voice

It’s episode two of The Voice Australia 2023 and the second Blind Auditions deliver a mixed bag to our superstar coaches.

See below for the highlights from the 2023 Blind Auditions #2!

Gezel Bardossi

Twelve-year-old NSW schoolgirl Gezel Bardossi had the coaches spinning with her jaw-dropping rendition of Aretha Franklin’s Chain of Fools.

With vocal talent that belied her age, her powerful voice had the judges clamouring to coach her; however, she chose Team Rita as her mentor.

“I guarantee you, this girl will win over hearts not only across the nation but around the globe!” Rita Ora said.

Ezra Williams

Hailing from Victoria, 28-year-old Ezra Williams comes from a musical lineage with sisters Lavina and Emily, who were part of the girl groups Ma-V-Elle and Young Divas.

Determined to step out from the shadows of her sisters, this Kiwi singer took to the stage with a performance of Lizzo’s soulful hit About Damn Time, leaving judges Rita and Jess Mauboy — formerly a Young Diva — awestruck.

Jess threw down the gauntlet for Ezra, saying: “I need you and I want you. You could shine brightly with me.”

Ezra chose Team Jess.

Calista Nelmes

24-year-old Calista Nelmes spun all four chairs after performing Becky Hill and David Guetta’s Remember.

After the coaches called her a “pop star”, she joined Team Jason [Derulo], after he hit the Block button.

“I didn’t come here to lose. I’m trying to get that crown. Team Jason for the win baby,” he said.

Levi X

Saxophone-playing teen busker and Queenslander, Levi X, joined Team Rita after turning two chairs with his rendition of Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes.

Guy Sebastian told the 15-year-old: “That was really special; I can see you in the finals.”

Elsewhere, Jessica superfan Garret Lyon failed to secure any chair turns with his performance of Leave (Get Out) by JoJo.

The Voice continues 7.30pm Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus.

The Block firsts are revealed

Host Scotty Cam then shared a couple of firsts on The Block. Firstly, he gives them their budget upfront. $250,000. Then he tells them he will be paying for all the plumbers and electricians, while announcing that fan favourite, Tom from Gisborne, is back as the show’s resident plumber.

Finally, after the absolute debauchery of Tanya and Vito’s scandal in 2021, Scotty also revealed the full schedule on the now infamous Block whiteboard, allowing the cast to plan ahead… and subsequently not create any goddamn drama.

Scotty and the infamous schedule. Nine

Unfortunately, tensions between Leah and Steph continued to grow, so truly, there are some things you just can’t plan for. Steph became annoyed with Leah for taking so long to move her stuff. Cool.

Our Blockheads also met two legends of the show, Foreman Keith and Dan.

Other highlights from the episode

  • Even though, by some miracle, she got the house she wanted, Steph is proving to be a little complicated, becoming overwhelmed by making decisions quickly. She and Gian also struggle with communication with their builder.
  • Both Kyle and Leslie and Leah and Ash attempt an impressive curve feature on their bathroom roofs.
  • Day one ends and the Blockheads realise this ain’t no Charming walk in the park.

Hunted Australia Recap Episode 10: Two Fugitives were captured from different teams

It’s episode 10 of Hunted Australia 2023 and two Fugitives have been captured… except they’re from different teams.

During the episode, a dramatic car chase sees one person eliminated while one team stayed together and another went their separate ways in hopes of evading the Hunters.

Here are all the highlights from episode 10 of Hunted Australia 2023.

Josh and Holly

With just 72 hours left until extraction, tensions were at an all-time high for the daring six fugitives.

Josh, the master of deception, played a cat-and-mouse game, leading the Hunters astray while Holly narrowly escaped their clutches. Josh sent the Hunters on a wild goose chase; however, unbeknownst to him, Hunted HQ was one step ahead, diligently tracking his every move and uncovering his true intentions.

In a race against time, Josh hatched one last plan. Making a quick pitstop at Geelong Train Station, he tried to fool the Hunters into thinking he was on a departing train and after combing the area, it looked as though Josh had disappeared into thin air.

Using his burner phone, he planned a rendezvous with ally Marco; however, given that it was being traced, the relentless Hunter Teams Alpha and Echo surged forward, hot on his heels.

With Marco skillfully driving, Josh frantically attempted his getaway, but couldn’t outpace the relentless Team Alpha and just like that, Josh’s time on the run came to a dramatic conclusion.

Josh. Ten

Meanwhile, the weight of loneliness and isolation began to take its toll on Holly, before a chance encounter with Carina turned things around.

Carina offered up her backyard as a safe haven and she introduced Holly to a local gardening group, giving her a whole bunch of allies in the process.

Holly and the community gardening club. Ten

Ed and Jimi

Ed and Jimi also made the tough decision to split, where Ed sought refuge at his Aunt Sandy’s house while Jimi roamed the city. By a stroke of luck, Jimi ran into an old work colleague who provided him with a much-needed place to spend the night.

Back at HQ, the Hunters discovered that Ed’s Aunt Sandy had unfriended him on all social media just before the Hunt began. Given this very weird behaviour, Ground Hunter Teams Charlie and Alpha were sent to investigate.

https://www.chattr.com.au/17/07/2023/is-hunted-australia-real-2023/

Team Charlie set up camp, staking out the house while Team Alpha, positioned themselves at the end of the road.

Once Ed returned, Sandy tried to drop him off at a safe distance, attempting to outsmart the Hunters; however, upon spotting them ran in the opposite direction. The Hunters quickly encircled him, bringing his time on the run to a close.

Ed. Ten

Meanwhile, the Father-son duo, Tharren and Jordan — the only team still together — are sticking to their tactics of approaching strangers for help and are safe. For now…

Four Fugitives remain on the run in the race to score a share of $100,000 during August 8’s Grand Finale of Hunted Australia 2023.

The Voice Australia 2023 Recap Episode 1: An impromptu audition turns four chairs

It’s episode one of The Voice Australia 2023 and it started with a bang!

To kick off the season, superstar coaches Jason Derulo, Rita Ora, Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy took to the stage with an incredible opening performance of STAR WALKIN’ by Lil Nas X featuring Jason’s iconic: “~JaSon DeRUlo~”.

See below for some more highlights from the first Blind Auditions of 2023!

Chris Watson and Shanae

53-year-old dad Chris Watson, from Victoria, failed to turn any chairs with Rick Springfield’s Jessie’s Girl; however, after proving to his 21-year-old daughter Shanae that he’s “just here to show her to never give up”, she got onstage and wowed the coaches, who in turn, all spun around for her.

“Your dad wasn’t kidding when he championed for you up there, you ripped it apart,” Coach Jess told her.

Shanae then chose to be on Guy’s team.

Etienne Steven

Olympic hopeful Etienne Steven, 19, decided to give up her rowing dreams to pursue music. It was absolutely the right decision as all four chairs turned when she sang Jason Derulo’s Savage Love.

She earned her spot on Team Jason, with the singer asking: “Can I borrow that for the live show too [and] will you come and sing it with me?” AH-MAZING.

Ethan Beckton

Once again, all four chairs turned for 18-year-old landscaper Ethan Beckton from NSW.

Admitting he had never had a music lesson, he blew the coaches away with his perfect and goosebump-inducing rendition of Jealous by Labrinth.

All four coaches were desperate for him to be on their team; however, the performer chose Jason.

“He’s going to take the world by storm,” Jason said. UNBELIEVABLE.

Overnight

NSW (literal) boy band Overnight (Tyler, 18; Harry, 18; Emmerson, 18; Kai, 18; and Jai, 17) set the stage alight with an energetic take on Backstreet Boys’ Larger Than Life.

Rita hit the Block button on Jason, however, Overnight chose Guy, who called the rising stars “organic, raw and real”.

Ben Esber

Ben Esber, 22, from NSW, took a risk with a stripped-back version of Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ Unholy.

All four chairs turned with praise from all coaches before he joined Team Rita.

Andrew Taylor Knight

24-year-old Andrew Taylor Knight and his chiselled jaw from NSW performed Gioachino Rossini’s Largo Al Factotum

Jason burst out in song and said: “Wow, wow, wow! Your technique is through the roof and your connection to the audience is really spot on.”

He chose Team Jason.

During Monday’s episode of The Voice, a schoolgirl in a class of her own steps onto Australia’s biggest stage, making history.

Continues 7.00pm Monday, 7.30pm Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus.

The Block 2023 Recap Episode 1: There’s already some major drah-ma and it has literally been 2.5 seconds

It’s episode one of The Block and we’re back in Melbourne — Hampton East to be precise — and we have five new teams from across Australia who are about to have the adventure of a lifetime. They hope.

This year, newlyweds and childhood sweethearts from NSW Steph and Gian, married couple Leah and Ash from Queensland, South Australians Kristy and Brett, sisters Eliza and Liberty and Western Australian husband-and-wife Kyle and Leslie have joined the cast as well as newcomer judge Marty Fox who apparently hates everything the light touches.

The 2023 Blockheads. Nine

After meeting the new Blockheads, host Scotty Cam shares some seriously gorgeous renders of the five fabulous houses on Charming St, something that has never been done before. While their jaws hit the floor over the properties, they also wonder how da fuq they will deliver them in just three months…

After lots of “oohs”, “aahs” and “why did we sign up for this?”, the teams were then whisked away to check out the 1950s post-war houses that will be transformed into incredible world-class homes.

An honourable mention must also be given to Eliza and Liberty, who have precisely zero reno experience and while they’re there to ~bUilD~ a house, they’re also on site to find themselves a husband. Unfortunately for them, all the other couples are loved up AF and also unfortunately for them, they come with a lot of, ahem, baggage.

Eliza, Liberty and Scotty Cam. Nine

“Got any questions?” Scotty asks.

“Are any of your sons single?” Eliza says and basically, this girl has our heart.

House Decider Challenge

For the first challenge of the season, the Blockheads had just 48 hours to create a kid’s room based on a Disney+ show, character or sub-genre. With exceptional product placement, the couples were provided with their inspo including The Mandalorian, Baby Yoda, Buzz Lightyear, National Geographic and Frozen.

Then it was time to meet the builders for the first time. In another Block first, the builders have never worked on the series before…

What happened during the challenge?

During the first 48 hours, Steph decides to go over budget with a cute chair while Leah freaks out over the horrendous traffic in Melbourne and a downpour aims to eff everything up.

And then drama strikes between the aforementioned Steph and Leah. When Leah visits House 4 to find some gap filler, she begins apprehensively searching the house. When Steph catches her red-handed, she delivers an “it’s fine”, which we all know means… it’s not.

Back to our heroes Eliza and Liberty, they take Scotty through their luggage, which is filled with everything you could possibly need… if there was an apocalypse and they were the last people left on the planet.

Scotty is all like:

Scotty Cam. Nine

However, you can tell he secretly LOVES them and wonders if they will share their GastroStop with him. Gross.

The Judging

After a baptism of fire, the Blockheads finish the House Decider challenge. Neale Whittaker, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer arrive to judge.

An emotional Neale tells his co-judges that he won’t be joining them for every challenge this year before they get to judging… with some very mixed results.

Steph and Gian

Firstly, it’s important to note that Steph only works with “beige”…

Inspo: Buzz Lightyear

Cash spent: $4,972

The judges felt that Steph and Gian had completely missed the brief because it was supposed to be a kid’s room, not a spare bedroom for a one-time visitor at the bottom of a house…

Steph and Gian’s kid’s room. Nine

Kristy and Brett

Inspo: Frozen

Cash spent: $4,972

The judges thought there was lots of creativity, but felt that they could have gone further.

Kristy and Brett’s kid’s room. Nine

Kyle and Leslie

Inspo: Star Wars – Grogu

Cash spent: $4,925

Overall, it was a good effort; however, the styling was underbaked. The couple also left Lego on the floor and because a) Lego is a punish to pick up and b) stepping on it hurts like a mother trucker, it wasn’t a hit…

Leah and Ash

Inspo: National Geographic

Cash spent: $4,992

The judges thought it was a beautiful effort, and agreed it was “the best challenge room ever in 19 seasons”. They were also impressed by the handmade bunk beds.

Lea and Ash’s kid’s room. Nine

Eliza and Liberty

Inspo: Guardians of the Galaxy – Groot

Cash spent: $4,904

Even though they hadn’t picked up a hammer before this very show, the judges thought their room was well executed but needed more layers.

Eliza and Liberty’s kid’s room. Nine

The Verdict

Due to the fact they “nailed the brief”, Leah and Ash were named the winners of the House Decider challenge and will decide which home they will be building in episode two.

The Block airs on Sunday at 7:00pm and continues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
