It’s episode 12 of MasterChef Australia and after last night’s Mystery Box, Theo, Declan and Larissa are heading into the biggest Pressure Test the kitchen has ever seen!
Tonight, the three cooks have been tasked with recreating Eddie Stewart’s Tokyo Lamington Tower and it was not only the tallest bake ever, but there were FIVE hours on the clock! The most time the MC kitchen has ever seen!
Being an elimination, the maker of the dish which least resembles Eddie’s creation would be eliminated from the competition.
Eddie Stewart’s Tokyo Lamington. Ten
The Lamington Tower consisted of the following flavours: Tres Leche, Snickers, Strawberry Matcha, Yuzu Meringue and Charcoal Pumpkin — and the competitors had to create ALL of them, four times over!
“You’ve seen the tower, you’ve tasted the tower and now you have to make the tower!” Judge Andy told them.
The Cook
There were 26 elements to get through and eleven pages in the recipe; and with five hours on the clock, it was time to motor!
“Jeezus, what am I doing?” Declan asked himself.
The contestants began baking the sponge, the “biggest” element of the cook. Straight off the bat, Theo makes a mistake, forgetting to sift the flour.
Theo. Ten
Meanwhile, Larissa and Declan had put their sponges in the oven, and it was time for Declan to create the “Tres Lecky” filling.
35 minutes down and Theo’s sponge was finally in the oven.
While Declan’s “nan” told him to never touch sugar while caramelising, Larissa stirred hers, causing it to crystalise and had to start again. But, disaster struck once more when her sugar crystalised and she had to start over.
Theo was also struggling to make up time but managed to complete his custard while Declan was surging forward. The third time lucky, Larissa finally perfected her sugar; however, it started clumping once she poured it into the cream.
Eddie then told her that she had to pour the cream into sugar and so, for the fourth time, she had to start again.
Larissa. Ten
“Do I want to toast my nuts a bit more?” Declan asked while moving onto his Snicker’s mousse and then subsequently onto his Strawberry mousse.
Theo — who had picked up the pace — had now “somehow” caught up to Declan, while Larissa finally perfected her caramel! But because she was so far behind, Larissa had to do multiple things at once as Declan turned over a delectable sponge.
Larissa then cut her cake before Declan made a “detrimental” mistake, cutting his sponge the wrong way.
Declan. Ten
Eddie and Judge Jock told him to put it together like a jigsaw puzzle while Theo began to feel “weirdly energised” and was ready to fill his Lamingtons.
With four hours down, Declan was ready to make his “Tres Lecky” and add the “Dul-che de Loo-chy” (Gosh, we just love him!) and Larissa couldn’t remember how many nuts to use on top of her Snickers component.
While her meringue was praised by Judge Mel, once again, Larissa became flustered, forgetting to torch the bottom, so rushed to complete the step.
“Feeling super spent and super emotional,” Larissa said through tears when it was finally all over.
The Judging
Theo was up first, and said he thought he “went pretty well.”
“Colours look good, size is pretty consistent,” Eddie said while the Judges concurred his sponges and layers were “great”.
“I couldn’t fault much, to be honest,” Eddie remarked and Mel said that he’d “done a superlative job”.
Theo. Ten
Declan was up next but was still concerned about the measurements of his Lamingtons.
The Judges commented on the size, with Andy saying the sponge “was very good but not as good as Theo’s.”
“All in all, I think he’s done a great job,” he added, before nitpicking the double coating of the Snickers.
Eddie said you can tell he was “meticulous” and had a perfect Italian Meringue and Jock said it “wasn’t far away” from Eddie’s.
Declan. Ten
Finally, Larissa was up. She knew she had the “biggest advantage in the MasterChef kitchen” and was concerned she had blown her second chance.
Jock called her Tower “a bit rough and ready”, while Mel said she had trouble with the coating and Eddie called them “big lamingtons”.
“Big challenge, big pressure test, big problems,” Jock said. “Structure? They feel pretty clumsy. It’s a shame.”
“There’s big problems on this,” Andy added.
Larissa. Ten
The Verdict
Andy praised Theo’s sponge, telling him he had beat the pressure test. Declan was told that his Lamingtons were perfect and flavour-wise? Fantastic.
Once again, Larissa was sent home and this time, for real.
MasterChef Australiacontinues at 7.30 pm on Wednesday, May 24 on 10 and 10Play.
The nine remaining contestants then made their way through the mud and were met by host Jai Courtney, who revealed that the jibe had made the Keeper unhappy.
“Now she’s on her way and she’s determined to hunt you down,” he said. “Your only safety is to make it to that treeline where you see the smoke rising.”
Jai Courtney and Jans. Nine
The Mountain Keeper’s revenge
Paying the price for Jans’ mischief, the Trekkers sprint 1km with their money on their backs. While they could help each other out, the last person to arrive would be eliminated, losing the team $71,000.
“Run!” Jai yelled.
The helicopter above them made it almost impossible to leg it thanks to strong winds and as they make their way to the finish line, Phillip lets Isaac finish first, bidding an emotional, yet triumphant farewell.
Phillip. Nine
The fall-out from Phillip’s elimination
Isaac is furious at Jans and wants him out. Jans does everything possible to remove the target from his back and successfully manipulates things by bonding with Brooke over letters from home.
Josh knows he’s playing with fire but feels he needs to be close to everyone for safety, even if it means trading blows and in a hush-hush chat with Jans, they both decide that Brooke and Isaac should be next to be voted off.
Josh and Jans. Nine
Getting to Checkpoint 4.0
The group needs to hike 20 km to get to the next Checkpoint where they plan to snag some cash and leave someone behind.
Sam is pissed about falling half a day behind and he’s not shy about it on the hike. His whining gets the target off the rest and onto him.
Brooke has had enough of Sam’s selfish attitude and decides he’s next to go.
Sam. Nine
The Trekkers arrive at Checkpoint 4.0
Josh is only interested in the cash and the opportunity to steal more, ignoring the shelter and mouth-watering Mexican feast at Checkpoint 4.
While he revels in the money, the tally comes to a whopping $700K.
As the cash is stowed away, the looming presence of Jai appears in the distance, indicating that crunch time is just around the corner.
Josh revels in the money. Nine
The Obstacle
Jai is back and reveals a new obstacle. There are two kayaks at the checkpoint, but they need two more to cross the lake.
They also need four hikers to paddle out to find the other kayaks, while the other half will stay on shore.
As they paddle out, Isaac and Brooke are on the shore feeling like sitting ducks, aware that Sam and Jans pose a threat to them.
Alex wants to protect certain people and eliminate those he deems threatening. Therefore, to prevent Sam and Jans from gaining power during an impending vote, Alex splits up the group of Josh, Indi, Sam, and Jans, just in case they discover a duffel bag. He wants Sam and Jans gone.
Nine
Indi spots two extra kayaks on the lake. When they get to the kayaks, Jans asks, “Are there any bags here?” Unfortunately, there aren’t any. So, the four of them reluctantly head back with Sam and Jans feeling frustrated along the way.
When the kayaks make their final turn, The Mountain’s Keeper arrives, tossing the duffle into the water.
Alex senses an opportunity and takes off, swimming towards the bag. Sam and Jans paddle like maniacs to beat Alex to the duffle.
Alex gets there first and they all return to shore.
Alex. Nine
Four people are up for Elimination
Alex comes in shivering and drenched, dropping the bag in front of everyone with an expression that could change the game.
Reading the note, Alex announces those who stayed on the land are safe from elimination but have to select someone to vote off.
Josh, Indy, Sam or Jans could be the unlucky ones.
If you can believe it, we’ve reached the Reunion of Farmer Wants a Wife Australia and as promised, all FIVE farmers — Andrew, Brad, Brenton, David and Matt — have found love.
After a seven-minute recap of everything that happened during the season, host Samantha Armytage is sitting down with our loved-up cowboys for one final ride.
The Five Farmers. Seven
Sam reminds them the last time they were in the barn, they walked in as “single men” but now, things are looking very different. And even though they all said they were “in love” during the Final Decision, at the time of the reunion, it was a month ago and we all know how much can change in just four weeks!
“I want to know if any of you Farmers have found a wife,” Sam says and so. do. we.
Farmer Brad’s Journey
Farmer Brad is up first. He chose Clare during the final decision.
Brad talks about his last relationship and how it ended because she didn’t want to be on the farm, saying that he hoped when he went on the show, that the women who applied were going to be genuine.
Sam then asked him why he chose runner-up Morgan for the first 24-Hour Solo Date and he admitted she stood out to him because she hadn’t spent one single second on a farm before, which is confusing due to his previous statement.
“I got on really well with her in the speed dates,” he said.
Farmer Brad and Morgan. Seven
The topic then turned to his final choice Clare.
“There was that chemistry,” he said, revealing it was hard to put into words. “There was that connection, that feeling that there’s something there.” After their first one-on-date, Brad realised what potential their future had because of how comfortable they felt.
“I was excited to see where it was going to go,” he said.
Farmer Brad. Seven
During the Finale, Farmer Brad told Clare that he loved her and she reciprocated.
“It was quite a big moment… it was a massive thing for her to do,” he said.
Sam then talked about the “challenges” they faced when it came to the whole moving-in situation. He said that he wasn’t one to rush into anything while Clare struggled with the revelation.
“Where does this leave you two?” Sam asked him and… ad break. Cool.
Farmer Brad and Clare
After the agonising break, Farmer Brad revealed that Clare would be moving to Cootamundra “once she’s got a job”.
“This could really be a happily ever after,” he said before Sam welcomed her to the couch.
Due to her twisting an ankle after getting off a horse, Clare arrived in an ankle brace but sitting on the couch, they looked pretty cute together.
Sam Armytage, Clare and Farmer Brad. Seven
“Providing her foot’s right,” Brad said, “it will be her and her horses and her dogs” who will be packing up and leaving Tamworth behind. Cute.
“I’m personally happy I’ve been through it all,” Brad said, while Clare admitted it had all been “relaxed”.
Clare and Farmer Brad. Seven
“Has this Farmer found a wife?” Sam asked Brad.
“I believe I have, Sam.” DOUBLE CUTE.
Farmer Brenton’s Journey
When Farmer Brenton joined Sam on the couch, he first spoke about his runner-up Rachel.
He admitted that their speed-date was “awkward” but after taking her back to the farm, things just “shot off from there”. They then spoke about his final choice, Sophie a.k.a “Soph”.
Apparently, Sophie was the first girl he saw during the application process (kismet!) and he chose to take her back to the farm for the first 24-Hour Solo Date where they shared beer and pizza.
Sophie and Farmer Brenton. Seven
During his Final Decision, Brenton broke down after telling Rachel he had fallen for Sophie.
“It was good to finally tell Sophie that I did love her,” he admitted. “The moment was right at the Final Decision and it made me open up as a person.”
He then admitted it was a “struggle” having her at the farm once the “honeymoon” of the TV show was over.
“The big question is Brenton, and I’m terrified to ask you,” Sam said. “Is Sophie here tonight?”
Ad break. Count of Monte Christo!
Farmer Brenton. Seven
Farmer Brenton and Sophie
“Yeh, Soph’s here tonight,” he said and Sam was audibly shocked. Lol.
“You two look cute together,” Sam said when Sophie joined them.
Farmer Brenton and Sophie. Seven
Sophie admitted she knew from quite early on that her Farmer was “The One”.
“As soon as I got back to the farm, I just wanted it to be us forever,” she said, adding: “My heart was set on him from the get-go.”
She also revealed that she always knew she’d move back to the country eventually, even though Brenton had questioned it. They also revealed she had moved it and that she hadn’t made any changes to the house, otherwise, he’d make her “pack her bags” quickly.
Look, love them, but does anyone else feel like Brenton ain’t feeling it?!
Farmer Brenton and Sophie. Seven
The couple also said that they were renovating the bathroom (already?!) which will certainly test their new relo and when Sam asked if there would be a “seventh generation” on the farm, he said that they’d have to “see how the bathroom renos” went first. Lawl. Love him.
“What’s next? Who knows,” he said.
Cupid-In-Arms Natalie Gruzlewski catches up with past couples
To break up the Farmer Reunion a little, we stepped away with “Cupid-In-Arms” Natalie Gruzlewski to catch up with Farmer Nathan and Amanda from season five, who have been together for thirteen years and married for twelve!
After Nathan proposed during the Finale, they are now living in marital bliss with three sons to keep them busy.
Farmer Nathan and Amanda. Seven
Then, Natalie chatted to season four’s Farmer Brad and Stacey, who have been together for fourteen years and now have two beautiful daughters as well as a farm they bought as a family.
“We felt from day dot we’d known each other for years,” Stacey said before Natalie revealed that at the time he had taken her aside and said: “‘I’m going to marry that girl,’ and here we are.”
Farmer Brad and Stacey. Seven
One of the bigger surprises was 2022’s Farmer Harry and Tess, who are still going strong and looking as cute as ever!
Farmer Harry has been working on a Gold Coast cattle farm for nine months and they’re “still very much in love”. HAPPY TEARS!!
Tess and Farmer Harry. Seven.
Farmer Matt
Back at the barn, Farmer Matt joined Sam on the couch.
“Olivia has always been herself from the start,” he said of the Lady he chose for his Final Decision. “My relationship with Olivia, it was just all of those small things we did for each other.”
Then the topic turned to his runner-up, Annabelle and how much his parents liked her. Even though he didn’t choose her, his parents were “happy to support” his decision.
“I think this is the first time I’ve actually felt what love is truly like,” he said of his new bae.
Farmer Matt. Seven.
Of course, there was still the bombshell of him moving to Canberra, which at the time of recording, he was a month away from doing.
Sam asks if Olivia is “here today”, which is dumb since she was in the promo before the ad break, and she joins them on the couch. She reveals that she will be moving to Canberra after she finishes her Certificate IIII in Wollongong.
Olivia. Seven
“A little birdy told me… Olivia, did Matt give you some jewellery today?” Sam then asked her.
Ad break. Guys, this is not funny anymore!
Finally, we found out what all the fuss was about and it was… a sunflower necklace. Wow.
Olivia’s ring necklace. Seven
We hate to say it, but we saw that coming from a mile away…
Farmer Andrew
In case you had forgotten, Farmer Andrew ended his experience early because he had fallen in love with truck driver Claire.
While we absolutely forgot about this couple the past few weeks, Farmer Andrew revealed he knew there was something special about his Lady after the speed date.
Farmer Andrew. Seven
Farmer Andrew revealed that the couple has been visiting family all over Australia and that she’s moving to Narromine…except, there was a little bump in the road. Well, a major accident!
According to Andrew, Claire was out horseriding with friends, was injured and was airlifted to hospital and was now recovering.
“It was a shock initially and reinforced those feelings that I had,” he said.
Farmer Andrew and Claire
Thank goodness, Claire — and her crutches — were able to join them on the couch…
Claire and her crutches. Seven
In cuter news, they seemed so goddamn happy with Claire saying that her Farmer “doesn’t stop talking”.
“You’re my favourite person,” Claire told him. “And that’s exactly what I was looking for.”
Claire and Farmer Andrew. Seven
“So, has this Farmer found a wife?” Sam asked.
“I think this Farmer has found a wife, yeh,” he said. Nawwww!
Farmer David
Finally, it was time to speak with our last Farmer, Farmer David.
David said it had been a “transition getting back into farm life” revealing that he wanted to be “open-minded” during the experience.
Farmer David. Seven
They spoke about how different the personalities of the ladies he took back to the farm were, including his runner-up Lorelei, who was a front-runner from the beginning; however, during his Final Decision, he chose Emily.
David did say that the “hardest part of this whole experience” was saying goodbye to Lorelei, particularly when she fainted.
Once again, the topic turned to Emily’s lack of experience when it came to relationships and the concerns surrounding that, particularly when they came out of the “bubble”.
“Is she here for us to ask her?” Sam said.
Ad break… Don’t worry, we expected it this time.
Farmer David and Emily
“Ummm… she is Sam,” he said. THANK THE LORD.
Farmer David and Emily. Seven
According to Emily, her dog Bailey “officially moved in before I did” to which David said: “Bailey has been the challenge!” HA!
After a package of them moving in together, David says the house is a “much happier place”.
“We’ve got a pretty exciting future coming up,” he said.
He too admitted he has found a wife and with that, the sun has set on Farmer Wants a Wife Australia 2023!
It’s episode 11 of MasterChef Australia and Big Week lives up to its name as the contents of the biggest-ever Mystery Box are revealed!
Contestants must think outside the box and up the flavour to avoid tomorrow’s Pressure Test.
Inside the large wooden crate was their pantry for the day and everything was supersized including Yellow Fin Tuna, barrels of wine, a planter box full of mint, cassia (similar but stronger than cinnamon), some huge pumpkins, a “regular Jock size” Toblerone, parmesan, a leg of prosciutto and bags of peanuts.
With 75 minutes on the clock, it was time to cook one delicious plate of food!
Biggest-ever Mystery Box revealed! Ten.
The Cook
As the cook began, we checked in with what the contestants were making.
Rhiannon decided on pumpkin, prosciutto and parmesan to create a mouth-watering Gozleme while Rue chose peanuts and Toblerone, to make a Snickers-inspired Tart with peanut butter ice cream.
Brent also went the sweet route, creating a Salted Caramel Ice Cream with peanuts and Cath, a caramelised Cassia Ice cream Sandwich.
Declan was originally going to do sweet out of the “behemoth of a mystery box”, but the Yellow Fin Tuna was calling his name and he decided on Peanut-crusted Seared Tuna Loin with Pumpkin Puree.
Antonio also chose to create an Ice Cream Sandwich — however, we later learned, it had a delish molten core!
“There’s something about today, I think it’s going to be a good day,” he said.
Antonio. Ten
Ralph picked cassia and orange to make a South African Dessert Milk Tart, while Theo grabbed cassia, rhubarb and oranges to make a Puff Pastry with Rhubarb and Cream a.k.a Milfoil.
“Should get three folds…to create super nice buttery layers,” he said.
Larissa, who won a second chance to come back to the kitchen during last night’s elimination, decided to make her “first pasta dish in the kitchen” — Doppio Ravioli with Roasted Pumpkin and Burnt Butter sauce.
“I’ve never made it before”, she said. Great time to start!
“Focus on the sauce, make it blow our minds,” Judge Andy told her, and Larissa stressed about what she could do instead.
Andy, Jock and Larissa. Ten
Phil also went sweet, making Ice cream with an Orange Tuile and a Chocolate Biscuit base, inspired by Terry’s Chocolate Orange from his childhood.
Then disaster struck.
Theo had overworked his pastry but with half an hour to go, just had to “go with it” before Declan was told by Judge Mel that she was worried about the textures of his dish.
“I just have to back myself and keep going,” he said.
Rhiannon said her Gozleme was “me on a plate” and decided to bulk them up with lots of filling.
Rhiannon’s Gozleme. Ten
Theo took his pastry out of the oven and said they looked “sub-par”, disappointed by his effort, while Larissa still hadn’t decided on her sauce. Instead, she decided to do the Doppio pasted against her “better judgement”. She then decided to make a Burnt Butter Whey Parmigiano sauce to accompany it.
Even though his tarts were “epic” (according to Andy), Ralph’s tarts cracked during plating, so he had to pivot to create a deconstructed version.
The judging
It was judging time and time to impress the judges. The bottom three would be heading to tomorrow’s Pressure Test!
Phil presented his Toblerone Ice Cream Sandwich with Orange Sugar Tuile.
“Nicely done,” Mel said while also saying it was the “best thing” he’d cooked, yet!
“Great texture and good flavour,” Jock said. “Triumph!”
Cath, Rue and Brent all served their dishes with high praise, while Rhiannon’s Gozleme had a “good amount of filling”.
Rhiannon’s Gozleme. Ten
Then it was time for Larissa’s dish and unlike Rhiannon, her dish was lacking in filling.
“Good work on the pasta,” Jock said before calling the Doppio “poor” with Andy saying the sauce “didn’t quite get there”.
Larissa’s Pumpkin and Ricotta Ravioli. Ten
Declan was next up with his Peanut Crusted Tuna.
“Declan, it eats exactly how it sounds,” Jock said, “But all you can taste is peanuts. It’s an odd combo.” Mel then said it wasn’t “cohesive”.
Antonio presented his Toblerone and Ice Cream sandwich.
“Great,” Jock said. “Nutty, delicious” before Andy called the biscuit “perfect”.
Amy, Melissa and Adi all presented their dishes with the judges calling Adi’s a “good weeknight meal”, before it was Theo’s turn.
“You can tell you’re not overly stoked,” Andy said before Theo said he “overworked it”.
“Unlucky today, mate,” Jock said of his Milfoil with Rhubarb and Chantilly Cream.
Theo’s Milfoil with Rhubarb and Chantilly Cream. Ten
Ralph then delivered his “deconstructed” South African Milk Tart.
While it didn’t present well, Jock clapped him and said “It was so good. When it’s that good…your custard is epic!”
“There’s nothing about that I don’t like,” he said before Mel called it “sublime”.
Ralph’s Milk Tart. Ten.
The Verdict
Antonio, Phil and Ralph had the best dishes of the day while Theo, Declan and Larissa were going into the “biggest pressure test we’ve ever set in this competition”.
MasterChef continues on Tuesday, May 23 at 7.30 pm.
It’s episode four of The Summit and the Trekkers are now a day behind. With just 7 days left to get to the pinnacle — and a whopping $785,000 in prize money on their backs — it’s time to hustle!
The First Obstacle
Phillip takes charge as the group hikes across jaw-dropping ravines, and slippery bushland while abseiling down a subzero waterfall and all before sundown!
Crawling on ropes over a daunting ravine while facing down, Phillip takes charge, courageous enough to face his fear of heights, consequently earning major street cred with the rest of the group.
Annikki is slowing the group down and exposing herself as one of the weaker members. But, wait… two of the strongest hikers, Sam and Alex, also struggle with the crossing, proving that physical strength isn’t always an advantage.
Nine.
Alex is lugging around the group’s stolen cash while dealing with his old footy injuries but still manages to cross to the other side. However, during the last crossing, Jans is in for a rude awakening when the Mountain’s Keeper pays him a surprise visit. Jans, being cocky as ever, decides to taunt her, setting off a chain of events that’ll deeply affect the group.
Sam, our fitness-obsessed friend, becomes impatient and upset during the hike to the waterfall. It was pretty slippery and wet, and the slower members of the group were struggling.
Driven by ego, Sam forgets the plan for him to bookend the group, with Alex noticing.
Sam. Nine
The crew reached a dangerous waterfall in a remote, frigid location, raising the stakes for their physical safety.
Annikki struggled again, as Isaac’s past abseiling accident froze him in fear at the top of the falls, risking hypothermia for the whole group who made it down safely.
Isaac. Nine
Josh advocated for cutting Isaac loose from the game, but Alex convinced Isaac to try the descent. While Isaac made it down, he was visibly shaken and declared he wanted to leave the mountain.
The Checkpoint Elimination — 100km to The Summit
Isaac and Alex chat on their hike to the checkpoint, and the warm conversation convinces Isaac to stay. He’s now determined to prove himself to his “mob” back home and decides the money would be a game-changer for his big family.
To make it to The Summit, Isaac needs to convince the group he’s got what it takes.
Isaac. Nine
They get to a checkpoint, it’s a highly emotional moment and the group votes to send Annikki home, but Isaac makes it through another day on the mountain.
The morning after, the group finds out the hard way what happens when you taunt the Mountain’s Keeper. She’s on her way to chase them down!
It’s MasterChefAustralia 2023 episode 10 and MC royalty Julie Goodwin has returned.
Survival is on the menu and everyone except Theo is in a black apron, cooking for their place in the kitchen.
Once the shock had worn off that Julie was standing in front of them, the first-ever winner of the series presented a seafood stew. And the round one challenge? One by one, the contestants had to use their sense of taste to tell the judges what ingredients were in the stew.
Julie Goodwin. Ten
Round One – The taste test
Choosing their order out of a bag, Rue got the first position while Grace picked the unlucky number 15.
After tasting the stew, one by one, the home cooks chose ingredients they could taste. Alice had to tell the difference between what kind of tomatoes were in the dish before Declan was the first contestant put into the Elimination Round with his guess of barramundi.
Declan. Ten
As black pepper, garlic and carrots were all mentioned, Antonio took a guess of Pancetta. He was the second person put into the cook.
Rue then guessed tomato paste, Robbie Tabasco Sauce and Jessica Tarragon which were all not ingredients in the stew and they were put into the final round.
Round Two — Elimination cook
Those who picked the wrong ingredient were now tasked with cooking to avoid elimination by using only the items in Julie’s recipe.
Judge Mel Leong then revealed the “biggest twist” yet. Larissa was back with her second-chance grey apron, ready to fight for a place back in the competition!
Larissa, Rue, Declan, Robbie, Antonio and Jessica. Ten
With 75 minutes on the clock, Declan began prepping a Seafood Soup. Jessica decided to stick to her strengths, cooking pasta that was “in my comfort zone”. She decided on Spaghetti al Pomodoro, the Calabrian way, with no eggs.
Robbie chose to make a bush-inspired Seafood Stew while Antonio began to prep his Fish Empanadas. Larissa set herself Russian Chicken Dumplings in a Broth and finally, Rue told Mel and Julie she was cooking Mussels.
Jessica’s spaghetti was thinner than she makes at home, accidentally using normal bread flour to create her dish. Judges Jock Zonfrillo and Andy Allen were concerned for her, with Jock calling it “risky”.
Jessica. Ten
Round Two – Elimination
With the cook complete, it was time for the judges to taste.
Robbie was first up with his Seafood with Tomato Soup.
“Looks good, smells good,” Jock said while Julie said it had a “deep flavour”. Mel said Robbie had “respected the produce”.
Robbie’s Seafood and Tomato Soup.
Next up was Antonio with his Snapper Empanadas. He became emotional when talking about his food, saying that he had promised his Grandma, who taught him to cook and who passed away, that he would go on the show.
Mel said that they really needed to be “sealed” like a proper Empanada before Andy said it was “a decent effort without setting the world on fire”.
Antonio’s Snapper Empanadas. Ten
Rue then delivered her Mussels in White Wine and Tomato Sauce.
Julie thought the sauce was “absolutely beautiful” and Mel called the Mussels “succulent” while Andy said they were “perfect”.
Rue’s Mussels with White Wine and Tomato Sauce. Ten
Declan, who was proud to not spill anything, presented a Prawn and Snapper Soup with Flatbread.
Even though his “crisp bread” left something to be desired, Andy said he did a “good job of getting that amount of flavour” in the soup.
Declan’s Prawn and Snapper Soup. Ten
Jessica then shared her Spaghetti al Pomodoro.
Jock called the Pomodoro sauce “next level tasty”; however, the texture of the pasta was “a little bit off”.
Jessica’s Spaghetti al Pomodoro. Ten
Larissa was the final cook to share her dish. She served up her Russian Dumplings — Pelmeni and Broth.
Julie called them “yummy”, Andy said they were a “really tasty homestyle dish” and Mel said it was “exactly what she promised us”.
Dish of the Day and Elimination
While Robbie won Dish of the Day and Larissa was welcomed back into the kitchen, Jessica’s bread flour spaghetti sent her home…for real, this time.
“This has been the best experience of my life,” she said.

Upon entering the kitchen, they were greeted by judges Jock Zonfrillo, Andy Allen and Mel Leong as well as chef Shannon Bennett and the “humble roast chook”.
The “humble roast chook” and Robbie, Jessica, Theor and Adi. Ten.
To win Immunity, they were going to need to “beat the chef” as well as turn the “versatile” roast chicken into a delicious dish, with the challenge set by Andy.
“Take my humble roast chicken and turn it into something out of this world,” he said.
The contestants had a total of 45 minutes to bring the judges “an absolute banger” and with that, the countdown began.
The Cook
Theo said that the “challenge played into his strengths” given that he and his mates eat a whole roast chook each on a Sunday…
Theo. Ten
Adi referred to the roast chook as the “Bachelorette’s handbag — you can pick up the chook after a busy day at work,” she said, revealing she was turning it into Butter Chicken.
Robbie wanted to make his wife proud while Ralph said he was making a Chicken Pie. Jessica admitted she was making a “death dish” and Melissa, a simple Chicken Sandwich with Chips.
“I’m hoping I can pull off each one perfectly,” she said.
Declan decided on “festive food” with a Mexican inspired “que-sa-dill-o” i.e. a Chicken Quesadilla with “tor-till-a”.
Mel, Andy and Declan. Ten
“I’m lucky they don’t judge my pronunciations otherwise it might be a bit of hasta la vista…bebe!” LOVE HIM.
Adi struggled with the flavours of her Butter Chicken and had to smoke her dish to get the nutty flavour while Theo felt he was in “a good spot” and Declan used a tortilla press for the first time, getting the perfect round dough.
With five minutes to go, Theo’s oven wasn’t at the right temperature so he switched to using a pan and Adi forgot about her Jeera which she called “a crappy-looking bowl of rice”.
The judging
Theo presented his Chicken Lahmacun but said he was worried about the bread.
Jock called it “amazing” and a “deluxe sandwich”, Mel said she “loved it” and Shannon said he’s “got the passion and the talent”.
Declan then presented his Spicy Mexican Chicken Quesadilla.
Mel said that he did “very, very good work”, Shannon said he “loved it” and that there were “smarts in it”.
Robbie then presented his Malaysian Warm Salad.
Andy said the “idea was epic” and the “dressing was cracking”, calling it a “really solid place of food”. Mel said it “transported” her to being “on country” with him.
Melissa was up next with her Chicken Sandwich with Chips, Shannon said she had “knocked it out of the park”.
Ralph presented his Chicken Pie, which Andy called a “wrong decision”.
Jessica then delivered her “death dish”, a Chicken and Mushroom Risotto.
“You are a super talented cook, but what you can’t do is bend time in this kitchen,” Mel told her, while Andy said the bones needed to be roasted.
Adi was last with her Butter Chicken with Jeera Rice, apologising for how it looked.
Shannon said she had “great flavour depth in the sauce” while Jock said, “undercooked rice aside, that’s delicious”.
Theo was victorious and was now tasked with beating Three Blue Ducks’ chef Darren Robertson.
“Are you ready?” Jock asked him, to which he replied: “Nup.” Lol
Darren Robertson. Ten
Beat the Chef round
“Not let the pressure get to him and cook from the heart, mate,” Darren told Theo.
Theo had the choice of three pantries and was also given the opportunity to choose which one Darren was going to use.
The first choice was a 90-minute cook with only five ingredients and the second 60 minutes with ten ingredients. The third pantry was 30 minutes and 20 ingredients.
Given it was a blind tasting, the judges left the room before Theo chose the second option. For Darren, he gave him the third option.
“I would have done the same,” Darren told him.
Beat the Chef round — Cook
Theo decided to create an Apple Tart, playing to his strengths and Darren chose to cook Barramundi, whole roasted with Mango Chilli Vinegar and Flatbreads.
Theo became stressed with three components to complete and Shannon told him to keep his “composure.”
“This is your bread and butter,” he said.
Beat the Chef round — Judging
First up was Theo’s Apple Tart. Mel said that there was “a lot of intelligence” went into the bake while Andy said the stewed apple was the “stand-out” and Jock “really enjoyed” the crunch and flavour of the tart case, but the tart shell was too thick.
Up next was Darren’s Whole Barramundi with Pickled Cabbage, Flatbread and Mango Chilli Vinegar.
Andy said the dish absolutely had to be Darren’s, but the judges were confused about the flatbreads and whether or not Theo cooked them.
When Jock cut into the fish, there was a question of whether the fish was cooked through. After an ad break, it was revealed it was “very close”.
Mel called it “delicious” and that “the devil was in the details” and Andy said: “This does have Darren Robertson written all of it”.

It’s MasterChef Australia 2023 episode eight and it was the first team Service Challenge of the season.
Tonight, judges Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa “Mel” Leong, and Andy Allen welcomed back past contestants Sashi Cheliah and Matt Sinclair to be team captains.
The MC kitchen was turned into a restaurant as the cooks were put into two teams.
Declan, Jess, Robbie, Adi, and Theo were in blue captained by Sashi, and in green, Cath, Rhiannon, Phil, Alice, Grace, and Antonio, captained by Matt.
Brent, Rue, and Andrea were sitting this one out for “a rest” while Melissa was up in the gantry with Immunity.
The Blue and Green Teams. Ten
Mel announced that there were three ingredients per entree and main, each group had to feature.
The contestants also had 2.5 hours plus 30 guests to feed as well as the judges.
After the Green Team chose eggplant for the entree and pork belly for the main, they struggled to choose what to cook with Cath taking control of the team.
The Blue Team chose cucumber for the entree and coral trout. They also chose to serve prawns.
The Cook
Cath was tasked with the pork belly and had to work out how much they needed for service.
“I’m not a finance person, this is not my brain,” she said.
“This is a good hour and hour and a half process,” Matt said, saying there was no room to make a mistake.
With 90 minutes until service, the pork was finally in.
Phil. Ten
Over on the Blue Team, Declan was in charge of the fish while Robbie was in charge of the curry. At home, he cooks over a campfire, so cooking in a restaurant was a daunting experience.
Robbie. Ten
Alice, Antonio, and Grace worked on the eggplant while Jess called for help with shelling prawns for the Cucumber and Prawn Deconstructed Raita and Adi struggled to pickle the cucumber because she was unsure of the ratio between water and vinegar.
Once again, numbers were an obstacle as Declan counted how many coral trout to use, while Ralph “massacred” the fish while trying to fillet it.
“I’m nervous I’m going to cost us this challenge,” he said.
Ralph’s poor fish. Ten
Sashi effortlessly showed Ralph what to do before the judges talked to Matt and Sashi about what their teams were cooking.
Then, “FINALLY” the prawns were completed and ready to be marinated and the first cook of the pork belly was finished before being strained and cooked again to become crispy.
The Green Team’s pork belly. Ten
Over on the Green Team, there was still a lot to do but the granita and the raita on the Blue team were prepped and ready to go.
Adi’s pickled cucumber was too salty with everyone pulling a face and she was concerned there wasn’t any time to fix it.
Robbie tastes the pickled cucumber. Ten
With 20 minutes until service, the diners arrived.
The Blue Team were still struggling with their pickled cucumber and had to remake it, stressed about time.
Then it was time to plate.
Adi and Jess. Ten
Service
Entree from the Blue Team: Prawns with Cucumber Raita.
The judges loved it. The prawns were cooked “perfectly” and everything was “light and fresh” and consistently plated.
The Blue Team entree. Ten
While the Blue Team were serving their entree and getting their plates out quickly, the Green Team was behind.
The Green Team entree: Miso Glazed Eggplant
The judges said that it was “beautifully cooked” and it was “even Stevens” at this point.
Jacqui Cooper was eliminated from The Summit after Brooke Kilowsky solely voted her off and while the Olympian was one of the most physically fit, she wasn’t part of “the capable ones”.
During an interview with Chattr, the 50-year-old admitted that three Trekkers had given themselves the moniker, which didn’t “sit well” with her.
“There was a group that called themselves the ‘capable ones’ and obviously, they’re capable. But what are we? Are we not capable? That didn’t sit well with me because you look around the rest and there are some very, very capable people within the group.”
In fact, Cooper felt like you had to have the “mental capability” to complete the show.
Jacqui Cooper. Nine
“And whether you look physically fit or not, like I think about mental capability, I think about emotional capability, physical capability. So those particular three just looked at the physical and having an aerial skiing career for 20 years, I wasn’t actually the most acrobatically capable.
“But there were other areas in my arsenal that made me more resilient, more capable, better than anybody else. So they were a little bit short sighted. They banded together based on the physical and that was enough for them to create an alliance.”
Jacqui Cooper felt she had a “target” on her back
Cooper met her fate when Kilowsky voted her off the mountain following the pair’s confrontation at the camp fire and while Kilowsky said it had nothing to do with their argument, Cooper felt she had a “target” on her back from the get-go.
“I think when you stand there and you’re super competent person, you show up and you look physically fit and capable. straightaway, people are like ‘wow, okay, so I don’t think this is a normal 50 year old. She’s very good on the obstacles,’” she said.
The aerial skier showed her prowess from the very first obstacle, in which she said: “I ran across it like a possum on a wire”.
Nine
“I felt overconfident,” she said. “I think you can’t really hide confidence and confidence rattles people. Confidence can be quite intimidating.”
As for her argument with Kilowsky at the campfire, Cooper said: “I felt like she crossed the line at that moment because I think if you’re going to do something as a team, there needs to be a huge amount of respect for each other.”
The Summit continues on 9 and 9Now Sunday – Tuesday.
It was the first elimination on MasterChef Australia2023 and we welcomed past winner and dessert queen Emilia Jackson back to the kitchen.
Emilia was tasked with bringing her “secret to success” which happened to be her infamous eclair, made with her signature choux pastry.
“The only choux I’ve heard in the past are the ones you wear on your feet,” Declan said.
Declan. Ten
With eight contestants in the first round and 75 minutes to complete it, the clock was set and off they went.
But even though they had the recipe, all of the contestants struggled to make their choux pastry in time; however, it was Rhiannon who struggled the most.
Elimination round one — judging
After a stressful bake, Declan was up first. He created a Profiterole filled with a vanilla almond cream and butterscotch sauce with toasted almonds.
Even though the judges were expecting a banoffee pie, Jock said that “considering it was his first time” he had done a “brilliant job”.
Declan’s choux. Ten
Larissa was up next with the only savoury dish of the round — Fried Chicken Chipotle Choux Buns. Unfortunately, the sauce let her down because it was too sweet.
Theo then presented his Lemon Meringue Eclair with Jock saying he “loved everything” about the curd, while Antonio presented a Hazelnut Paris-Brest (a classic French pastry) and Jessica, a Peanut Butter and Jam choux, which Jock called “perfect”.
Then it was time for Kat.
Kat delivered a Lemon Marscapone Choux Bun, and after saying that she had practised at home and had had “a few fails”, this time was a different story.
Andy called them “perfection” and she was sent straight to the gantry, avoiding elimination.
Kat’s choux. Ten
Alice then presented an Oolong Tea Choux, while Melissa loved the concept, the matcha and the oolong were too strong and Jock said they were “fighting each other”.
Finally, Rhiannon shared her Mango Curd and Lime Meringue Choux Buns. Unfortunately, her curd was curdled and the choux underbaked.
Elimination round two
Unsuccessful in the first round, Rhiannon, Larissa and Alice were sent to the next one.
For the second round, they had the chance to make the choux again; however, if they made savoury in round one, they had to make sweet this time and vice versa.
Alice decided on something simple, but was worried she was overthinking it while Larissa struggled with baking something sweet.
Elimination round two — judging
Rhiannon was first in the elimination room. She presented a Mexican Prawn Choux with an Avocado Cream.
“This is me,” she said.
Rhiannon’s choux. Ten
“That’s what happens when you stay true to yourself,” Andy said while tasting her dish, with Jock saying he “loved it”.
Next up was Alice. Her dish was a Bacon and Egg Choux with scrambled eggs, caramelised onions and bacon.
“It’s more of an onion jam choux,” Andy said, while calling it “the best choux of the day”. Jock said he “quite liked it” and the onion was the “star of the show”. Emilia said it “surprised her”.
Alice’s dish. Ten
Finally, Larissa presented the judges with a Lemon Meringue Curd Choux Pastry.
“It’s been a day,” she said.
The judges agreed there wasn’t enough curd in the pastries and Melissa said it “just all feels… fine?!”.
Who was sent home?
Unfortunately, having a “fine” dish on elimination day meant that Larissa was the first to be eliminated; however, she was lucky enough to have the second chance apron!
“Everybody thinks I’m going home, but I’m not!” she said. “I have to keep it a secret for now, but I’ll be back in the next elimination to fight my way back in.”

What is Extraction 2 about?
Creator Joe Russo previously told Collider that the film was “very different” from the first including a different location, however, like the first, Rake is back — this time, rising from the dead.
The official synopsis reads: “After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.”
Who is in the cast?
Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role from the first film, alongside Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili.
In Australia we have uni, but in the US they have college and Binge’s newest doco Bama Rush is about to give us the inside scoop on what it’s really like.
While we’ve been fascinated by the red cup culture, beer pong and frat houses these movies have afforded us, over in America, it’s part and parcel of college life and so is “rushing” for a sorority.
For Gen Z, TikTok has provided a glimpse at this phenomenon, thanks to #BamaRush Tok, but now there’s a whole goddamn documentary for us to sink our teeth into.
Bama Rush. Binge
What is Bama Rush?
According to Teen Vogue and the official synopsis of the film, in August 2021, a few thousand “freshmen” entered the Tuscaloosa, Alabama heat house-to-house as millions of TikTok users watched for the coveted bid many of these young girls were vying to receive.
Becoming a viral sensation and cultural phenomenon using the hash tag “Bama Rush,” to date more than 2 billion people have watched the clips that followed.
In the upcoming feature documentary Bama Rush, Fleit follows four young women as they prepare to rush at the university in 2022 exploring the emotional complexities and stakes of belonging in this crucial window into womanhood.
Binge
“Let’s be honest, I probably wouldn’t be going to Alabama if it didn’t blow up on TikTok,” one girl says in the trailer.
Landing on to Binge on May 23, the doco will explore college life, sisterhood, and all the joys and complexities of what it means to be a young woman today.
“This film is a thoughtful and compassionate portrayal of young women in 2022 as they rush the sorority system at the University of Alabama,” director Rachel Fleit wrote in a statement provided to The New York Times.
What did we learn from the trailer?
While thousands apply, only few get in and unfortunately, this age-old institution is seeped in misogyny.
“The rankings come from fraternity boys, so the top house has the hottest girls,” one girl says while another admits that she would never have had an eating disorder growing up if the “boys didn’t say what they said to me.” WOW.
There’s also the addition of “racial segregation” which thankfully ended in 2013, but it was a huge part of the Greek sorority culture.
“The culture at Alabama is f**king weird,” another girl says.
And then this: “Not to be dramatic, but this documentary could be an end to Greek life as we know it.”

The Summit 2023 premiered with the ultimate blindside on Sunday, May 14, when Stephen Butler was literally left hanging by his fellow Trekkers.
After reaching a bridge on the second day of the climb, the father-of-two drew the short straw when the Mountain’s Keeper tasked them with the “ultimate sacrifice”.
Entering the bridge last Butler made great headway, before Isaac Compton wielded an axe cutting the rope.
“I kicked myself coming off,” he told Chattr in an interview prior to his elimination. “I was the first one there but then allowed Brooke [Kilowsky] to read out the note and she said, ‘Well, I’ll be the person who is going to run it’. It was like a sliding doors moment because I would have been the first one across and away I went.”
Stephen on The Summit. Nine
Butler’s elimination was nothing short of brutal. To make matters worse, the other Trekkers were shown walking away as he dangled above a deep crevice and even though The Summit team pulled him back via a rig, he was determined not to go home.
“They [the other contestants], obviously they knew it was coming and not me,” he said. “So I sort of got wound back to where I started. In terms of clarity of mind and what was going on, at that point I had it in my head, ‘What do I need to do here?’ because I thought they were just going to say, ‘Okay, well, you can now pave your own way.’”
The Trekkers had no idea what they were in for
According to the sock designer, the cast were only “drip-fed” information about what the show was actually about.
“We were thrown in to the deep end,” he said. “And because you were only drip fed tiny bits of information… I mean, the premise was, you have two weeks to get to the top of a mountain to win a million dollars and then we met Jai [Courtney] and he gave it some context. And then it was like, ‘Off you go, guys.’”
The Summit 2023 Trekkers. Nine
Of course, not being given much information was a well-thought out plan for the producers, because what transpired was Survivor-style gameplay and according to Butler, it meant that there were “strategic players” from the get-go.
“I think realistically speaking, this is a game and it’s to be played and you have to be strategic,” he said.
