Recap — Finale: Farmer Brad and Farmer Brenton choose their Ladies on Farmer Wants a Wife

It’s finally the finale of Farmer Wants a Wife Australia 2023 and Farmer Brenton and Farmer Brad are about to make the ~bIgGest DEcIsiON~ of their lives.

To recap, during last week’s episode, Farmer David chose Emily and Farmer Matt chose Olivia, with Sophie and Rachel still on Farmer Brenton’s Farm and Clare and Morgan on Farmer Brad’s.

Firstly, we hear our two remaining Farmers share what they’re looking for. Brenton wants someone who is “genuine and loving and caring” and a “best friend and a soul mate” and Brad is hoping for someone he can live “happily ever after” with.

Farmer Brad
Farmer Brad. Seven.

To kick things off, Farmer Brad is visiting Morgan’s family in Brisbane.

“My biggest fear is being heartbroken again,” Brad says, lamenting that they loved him but not the farm.

Brad arrives at Morgan’s house sans hat and is greeted by Morgan’s mum Angie, dad Dave (yes, another one), sister Grace and brother-in-law Matt, who truly looks petrified to be there.

Morgan’s brother-in-law Matt. Seven

Morgan begins by saying that they would be “impressed” by how she was on the farm and jokes that she was “the worst at everything”.

Angie tells the cameras that Morgan looks “happy” but wants to see “how they will make their relationship work.”

Morgan says she’s checked the local school out and after meeting the family, Brad says he can see a future with her but is worried that she “doesn’t get the isolation of farm life”.

Farmer Brenton and Sophie

Farmer Brenton is in Hamilton to meet Sophie’s family, one of his “favourites from the start”.

He reflects on their journey together but is concerned that she wants to travel, something he cannot do while working on a farm.

Once with “Soph”, he says he’s nervous to meet her parents; and although they are a farming family, they have a gorgeous house in town.

“I do have butterflies but I don’t know what they mean,” he says. “Whether I’m excited for it or if I’m sh**ting myself.” LOL.

Brenton meets Sophie’s parents including mum Robyn, who have been married for over 30 years plus grandmas Janice and Mary— who are too goddamn cute.

Janice doesn’t watch a lot of “reality” but is concerned for her granddaughter because when she does, the girls are always crying…

Sophie’s grandmas, Mary and Janice. Seven

At the lunch table, Janice tells the story of how she met “my Roger”, who asked her to dance at a social. Mary, who grew up in the city but wanted to marry a farmer, met her husband at a dance as well.

“He was a beautiful dancer, fell in love, got married, [had] four children and lots of lovely grandchildren,” Mary told them. Le sigh.

Brenton is concerned by the chatter at the table when it turns to Sophie’s urban life.

Brenton. Seven

Sophie sits down for a chat with her mum, who says: “You haven’t known him very long.” She then asks if she thinks her daughter is “ready” to live back on a farm, who says there’s “a strong connection” there.

“Reality will set in,” Robyn says and ooooft.

After lunch, Brenton and Sophie share a glass of bubbles and he addresses his worries with her. She says that her parents know how adventurous she is, but she says she’s ready for the farm.

“I want to spend my life with someone like you,” she says.

Brenton tells the cameras his head “is in a bit of a spin”, but that his decision will ultimately come down to who is best “suited to the farm”.

Farmer Brad and Claire

Farmer Brad arrives to meet Claire to go to her family’s property outside of Tamworth.

Clare wants Brad to be “stressed” since she’s been stressing the whole season and then says that her brother doesn’t like anyone.

At her family home, Farmer Brad is meeting mum Cathy, dad Graham and younger brother Michael, who jokes that “it’s a two-horse race and hopefully she [Clare] is the favourite”.

Michael clearly has no filter and questions whether Brad will say the same things to “the other bird’s” family and his own fam is mortified.

Michael. Seven

Farmer Brad calls Clare’s brother “quite the character” and that’s one word for it…

Michael then tells him that Clare has had plenty of boyfriends over the years and he’s had to “sort them out” adding that he’ll “sort out” Brad too.

When Clare and Cathy sit down for a one-on-one, Cathy calls Brad “stylish”. Clare says she’d be devastated if she wasn’t chosen before her mum asks how soon she’d move.

Her mum is concerned that she’s eight hours a day and says, “We’re going to miss you terribly”.

Meanwhile, Brad and Michael have a conversation and Michael reveals that the guys in the past haven’t treated Clare right. He also says that she wants kids and is honest about that, which scares men off.

Michael. Seven

Brad is worried Clare will also miss her family if she moved to the farm.

Farmer Brenton and Rachel

While recapping their journey, Farmer Brenton says he feels like “Rach” is his best friend but doesn’t know how she feels about him.

They are then joined by mum Helen, dad Matt, younger twin sisters Emily and Chloe and of course, Farmer Matt’s past bae, identical twin Chelsea.

Rachel’s family. Seven

Chelsea says it’s nice to see how “comfortable” they are with each other and Rachel admits that she could definitely move to the farm straight away.

The family warms to Brenton and Rachel thinks they have a “good judge of character” before the twins go for a chat.

“I am falling for him,” she tells Chelsea. “I just hope he realises it as well. We would be so good together.”

Rachel and Chelsea. Seven

Farmer Brad and Clare’s final one-on-one

Farmer Brad and Clare take some time together before the final decision is made. He is concerned that her feelings are not strong enough against the pull of her family.

He also wants her to just “let it all out on the line”, something she has struggled with in the past.

Farmer Brad and Clare. Seven

Clare says that Brad did well with her family and she tells him that Cathy was nervous about her moving to the farm.

She then tells him she “cares so much” about him but can’t “get too excited”. Brad is worried she can’t break the walls down, meaning would she be able to do that in the future.

Does anyone else feel like these two are AWKWARD AF?! My god.

Farmer Brenton and Rachel

Farmer Brenton and Rachel are also enjoying their final one-on-one time in a horse-drawn carriage.

She finally tells him that she’s been “hiding” her feelings for him because she’s never told anyone she’s loved them before.

“It’s hard for me to say but I feel like I am, kind of falling for you,” she says.

They mack on and it’s hella romantic.

Farmer Brenton and Rachel. Seven

Farmer Brenton was “in shock” and said the more time he spends with her the stronger he feels as well.

“I really do think that Brenton and I have something special,” she says.

Farmer Brenton’s Decision

First up is Farmer Brenton’s final decision between Rachel and Sophie.

Out of the car first is Sophie, who felt a connection with him from day one.

“The moment I first laid eyes on you, you took my breath away,” Brenton tells her. “It’s always in the back of my mind whether you are ready to come back to the farm.”

He called their first date the “best night of our lives”.

Sophie. Seven.

Psyche! We’ve now cut to his time with Rachel.

“In a short amount of time, you’ve become one of the most important people in my life,” he tells her. “Unfortunately, Rach, I’m falling in love with someone else.

Rachel handled it with grace, saying: “You’ve taught me what I want in a relationship”.

“But, I’m OK and you’re OK and everything is OK,” she said.

Rachel. Seven.

Brenton was visibly gutted while Rachel told the cameras she didn’t regret anything.

“It’s horrible to make someone feel like that. To actually break a girl’s heart. I’ve never been in that position before,” Brenton says through tears.

Farmer Brenton. Seven

We’re then back with Sophie.

“I’ve never felt like this with anyone, and we’ve so many memories and I can’t wait to take you back to the farm. You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met. I’m falling in love with you.”

Farmer Brenton and Sophie. Seven

Farmer Brad’s Decision

Brad is the final Farmer to choose his Lady.

Coming out of the car first is Morgan, who “genuinely came here to find love”.

When sitting down together, he tells her that he “came here to find a wife and to find love and I believe I’ve found that with someone else. I’m really sorry.”

Morgan. Seven

Next up is Clare.

After telling her that he’s worried she will miss her family, he then admits that they have the same values in life.

“We’re cut from the same cloth. We love each other. Let’s make it work. Pack your horses, pack your dogs.”

Farmer Brad and Clare. Seven

With that, the journey is over.

Farmer Wants a Wife continues with a reunion episode on Monday, May 22 at 7.30 pm on 7 and 7Plus.

Masterchef Recap — Episode 9: One cook goes up against Darren Robertson for an Immunity Pin

It’s episode nine of MasterChef Australia 2023 and an Immunity Pin is up for grabs!

Declan, Jessica, Robbie, Adi, Ralph and Theo were all in the winning team during Wednesday night’s first team Service Challenge, meaning they had the chance to cook it out to be safe from Sunday’s elimination, alongside Melissa.

Upon entering the kitchen, they were greeted by judges Jock Zonfrillo, Andy Allen and Mel Leong as well as chef Shannon Bennett and the “humble roast chook”.

To win Immunity, they were going to need to “beat the chef” as well as turn the “versatile” roast chicken into a delicious dish, with the challenge set by Andy.

“Take my humble roast chicken and turn it into something out of this world,” he said.

The contestants had a total of 45 minutes to bring the judges “an absolute banger” and with that, the countdown began.

The Cook

Theo said that the “challenge played into his strengths” given that he and his mates eat a whole roast chook each on a Sunday…

Theo. Ten

Adi referred to the roast chook as the “Bachelorette’s handbag — you can pick up the chook after a busy day at work,” she said, revealing she was turning it into Butter Chicken.

Robbie wanted to make his wife proud while Ralph said he was making a Chicken Pie. Jessica admitted she was making a “death dish” and Melissa, a simple Chicken Sandwich with Chips.

“I’m hoping I can pull off each one perfectly,” she said.

Declan decided on “festive food” with a Mexican inspired “que-sa-dill-o” i.e. a Chicken Quesadilla with “tor-till-a”.

“I’m lucky they don’t judge my pronunciations otherwise it might be a bit of hasta la vista…bebe!” LOVE HIM.

Adi struggled with the flavours of her Butter Chicken and had to smoke her dish to get the nutty flavour while Theo felt he was in “a good spot” and Declan used a tortilla press for the first time, getting the perfect round dough.

With five minutes to go, Theo’s oven wasn’t at the right temperature so he switched to using a pan and Adi forgot about her Jeera which she called “a crappy-looking bowl of rice”.

The judging

Theo presented his Chicken Lahmacun but said he was worried about the bread.

Jock called it “amazing” and a “deluxe sandwich”, Mel said she “loved it” and Shannon said he’s “got the passion and the talent”.

Declan then presented his Spicy Mexican Chicken Quesadilla.

Mel said that he did “very, very good work”, Shannon said he “loved it” and that there were “smarts in it”.

Robbie then presented his Malaysian Warm Salad.

Andy said the “idea was epic” and the “dressing was cracking”, calling it a “really solid place of food”. Mel said it “transported” her to being “on country” with him.

Melissa was up next with her Chicken Sandwich with Chips, Shannon said she had “knocked it out of the park”.

Ralph presented his Chicken Pie, which Andy called a “wrong decision”.

Jessica then delivered her “death dish”, a Chicken and Mushroom Risotto.

“You are a super talented cook, but what you can’t do is bend time in this kitchen,” Mel told her, while Andy said the bones needed to be roasted.

Adi was last with her Butter Chicken with Jeera Rice, apologising for how it looked.

Shannon said she had “great flavour depth in the sauce” while Jock said, “undercooked rice aside, that’s delicious”.

Theo was victorious and was now tasked with beating Three Blue Ducks’ chef Darren Robertson.

“Are you ready?” Jock asked him, to which he replied: “Nup.” Lol

Darren Robertson. Ten

Beat the Chef round

“Not let the pressure get to him and cook from the heart, mate,” Darren told Theo.

Theo had the choice of three pantries and was also given the opportunity to choose which one Darren was going to use.

The first choice was a 90-minute cook with only five ingredients and the second 60 minutes with ten ingredients. The third pantry was 30 minutes and 20 ingredients.

Given it was a blind tasting, the judges left the room before Theo chose the second option. For Darren, he gave him the third option.

“I would have done the same,” Darren told him.

Beat the Chef round — Cook

Theo decided to create an Apple Tart, playing to his strengths and Darren chose to cook Barramundi, whole roasted with Mango Chilli Vinegar and Flatbreads.

Theo became stressed with three components to complete and Shannon told him to keep his “composure.”

“This is your bread and butter,” he said.

Beat the Chef round — Judging

First up was Theo’s Apple Tart. Mel said that there was “a lot of intelligence” went into the bake while Andy said the stewed apple was the “stand-out” and Jock “really enjoyed” the crunch and flavour of the tart case, but the tart shell was too thick.

Up next was Darren’s Whole Barramundi with Pickled Cabbage, Flatbread and Mango Chilli Vinegar.

Andy said the dish absolutely had to be Darren’s, but the judges were confused about the flatbreads and whether or not Theo cooked them.

When Jock cut into the fish, there was a question of whether the fish was cooked through. After an ad break, it was revealed it was “very close”.

Mel called it “delicious” and that “the devil was in the details” and Andy said: “This does have Darren Robertson written all of it”.

“It really is a tasty, tasty dish,” he said.

The scoring and final verdict

Theo – 23/30

  • Mel: 8/10
  • Andy: 8/10
  • Jock: 7/10

Darren — 25/30

  • Jock: 8/10
  • Andy: 8/10
  • Mel: 9/10

Theo did not walk away with an Immunity Pin.

Masterchef Recap — Episode 8: The first Service Challenge saw one team fall short…of pork

It’s MasterChef Australia 2023 episode eight and it was the first team Service Challenge of the season.

Tonight, judges Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa “Mel” Leong, and Andy Allen welcomed back past contestants Sashi Cheliah and Matt Sinclair to be team captains.

The MC kitchen was turned into a restaurant as the cooks were put into two teams.

Declan, Jess, Robbie, Adi, and Theo were in blue captained by Sashi, and in green, Cath, Rhiannon, Phil, Alice, Grace, and Antonio, captained by Matt.

Brent, Rue, and Andrea were sitting this one out for “a rest” while Melissa was up in the gantry with Immunity.

The Blue and Green Teams. Ten

Mel announced that there were three ingredients per entree and main, each group had to feature.

The contestants also had 2.5 hours plus 30 guests to feed as well as the judges.

After the Green Team chose eggplant for the entree and pork belly for the main, they struggled to choose what to cook with Cath taking control of the team.

The Blue Team chose cucumber for the entree and coral trout. They also chose to serve prawns.

The Cook

Cath was tasked with the pork belly and had to work out how much they needed for service.

“I’m not a finance person, this is not my brain,” she said.

“This is a good hour and hour and a half process,” Matt said, saying there was no room to make a mistake.

With 90 minutes until service, the pork was finally in.

Phil. Ten

Over on the Blue Team, Declan was in charge of the fish while Robbie was in charge of the curry. At home, he cooks over a campfire, so cooking in a restaurant was a daunting experience.

Robbie. Ten

Alice, Antonio, and Grace worked on the eggplant while Jess called for help with shelling prawns for the Cucumber and Prawn Deconstructed Raita and Adi struggled to pickle the cucumber because she was unsure of the ratio between water and vinegar.

Once again, numbers were an obstacle as Declan counted how many coral trout to use, while Ralph “massacred” the fish while trying to fillet it.

“I’m nervous I’m going to cost us this challenge,” he said.

Ralph’s poor fish. Ten

Sashi effortlessly showed Ralph what to do before the judges talked to Matt and Sashi about what their teams were cooking.

Then, “FINALLY” the prawns were completed and ready to be marinated and the first cook of the pork belly was finished before being strained and cooked again to become crispy.

The Green Team’s pork belly. Ten

Over on the Green Team, there was still a lot to do but the granita and the raita on the Blue team were prepped and ready to go.

Adi’s pickled cucumber was too salty with everyone pulling a face and she was concerned there wasn’t any time to fix it.

Robbie tastes the pickled cucumber. Ten

With 20 minutes until service, the diners arrived.

The Blue Team were still struggling with their pickled cucumber and had to remake it, stressed about time.

Then it was time to plate.

Adi and Jess. Ten

Service

Entree from the Blue Team: Prawns with Cucumber Raita.

The judges loved it. The prawns were cooked “perfectly” and everything was “light and fresh” and consistently plated.

The Blue Team entree. Ten

While the Blue Team were serving their entree and getting their plates out quickly, the Green Team was behind.

The Green Team entree: Miso Glazed Eggplant

The judges said that it was “beautifully cooked” and it was “even Stevens” at this point.

The Blue Team main: Fish Curry with Cumin Rice

“The fish is cooked unbelievably,” Andy said while Mel added: “It’s outrageous!”

Jock said that the cook of this fish really “surprised” him.

“Oh my god, what a good competent plate of food,” he said.

The Judges. Ten

The Green Team main: Braised Pork Belly

Being a main, the judges were shocked that there was only a small amount of pork on each plate.

Mel called it “rustic in appearance” and “inconsistent” in portioning; however, there were a lot of great flavours.

The Decision

“Every single piece of fish was cooked to perfection and that’s why blue team, you’ve won the challenge!” Jock said.

The Blue Team will now be cooking — alongside contestant Melissa — for immunity.

The Summit’s Jacqui Cooper reveals three people dubbed themselves “the capable ones”

Jacqui Cooper was eliminated from The Summit after Brooke Kilowsky solely voted her off and while the Olympian was one of the most physically fit, she wasn’t part of “the capable ones”.

During an interview with Chattr, the 50-year-old admitted that three Trekkers had given themselves the moniker, which didn’t “sit well” with her.

“There was a group that called themselves the ‘capable ones’ and obviously, they’re capable. But what are we? Are we not capable? That didn’t sit well with me because you look around the rest and there are some very, very capable people within the group.”

In fact, Cooper felt like you had to have the “mental capability” to complete the show.

Jacqui Cooper. Nine

“And whether you look physically fit or not, like I think about mental capability, I think about emotional capability, physical capability. So those particular three just looked at the physical and having an aerial skiing career for 20 years, I wasn’t actually the most acrobatically capable.

“But there were other areas in my arsenal that made me more resilient, more capable, better than anybody else. So they were a little bit short sighted. They banded together based on the physical and that was enough for them to create an alliance.”

Jacqui Cooper felt she had a “target” on her back

Cooper met her fate when Kilowsky voted her off the mountain following the pair’s confrontation at the camp fire and while Kilowsky said it had nothing to do with their argument, Cooper felt she had a “target” on her back from the get-go.

“I think when you stand there and you’re super competent person, you show up and you look physically fit and capable. straightaway, people are like ‘wow, okay, so I don’t think this is a normal 50 year old. She’s very good on the obstacles,’” she said.

The aerial skier showed her prowess from the very first obstacle, in which she said: “I ran across it like a possum on a wire”.

Nine

“I felt overconfident,” she said. “I think you can’t really hide confidence and confidence rattles people. Confidence can be quite intimidating.”

As for her argument with Kilowsky at the campfire, Cooper said: “I felt like she crossed the line at that moment because I think if you’re going to do something as a team, there needs to be a huge amount of respect for each other.”

The Summit continues on 9 and 9Now Sunday – Tuesday.

MasterChef Recap — Episode 7: A shock elimination and an even more surprising twist

It was the first elimination on MasterChef Australia 2023 and we welcomed past winner and dessert queen Emilia Jackson back to the kitchen.

Emilia was tasked with bringing her “secret to success” which happened to be her infamous eclair, made with her signature choux pastry.

“The only choux I’ve heard in the past are the ones you wear on your feet,” Declan said.

Declan. Ten

With eight contestants in the first round and 75 minutes to complete it, the clock was set and off they went.

But even though they had the recipe, all of the contestants struggled to make their choux pastry in time; however, it was Rhiannon who struggled the most.

Elimination round one — judging

After a stressful bake, Declan was up first. He created a Profiterole filled with a vanilla almond cream and butterscotch sauce with toasted almonds.

Even though the judges were expecting a banoffee pie, Jock said that “considering it was his first time” he had done a “brilliant job”.

Declan’s choux. Ten

Larissa was up next with the only savoury dish of the round — Fried Chicken Chipotle Choux Buns. Unfortunately, the sauce let her down because it was too sweet.

Theo then presented his Lemon Meringue Eclair with Jock saying he “loved everything” about the curd, while Antonio presented a Hazelnut Paris-Brest (a classic French pastry) and Jessica, a Peanut Butter and Jam choux, which Jock called “perfect”.

Then it was time for Kat.

Kat delivered a Lemon Marscapone Choux Bun, and after saying that she had practised at home and had had “a few fails”, this time was a different story.

Andy called them “perfection” and she was sent straight to the gantry, avoiding elimination.

Kat’s choux. Ten

Alice then presented an Oolong Tea Choux, while Melissa loved the concept, the matcha and the oolong were too strong and Jock said they were “fighting each other”.

Finally, Rhiannon shared her Mango Curd and Lime Meringue Choux Buns. Unfortunately, her curd was curdled and the choux underbaked.

Elimination round two

Unsuccessful in the first round, Rhiannon, Larissa and Alice were sent to the next one.

For the second round, they had the chance to make the choux again; however, if they made savoury in round one, they had to make sweet this time and vice versa.

Alice decided on something simple, but was worried she was overthinking it while Larissa struggled with baking something sweet.

Elimination round two — judging

Rhiannon was first in the elimination room. She presented a Mexican Prawn Choux with an Avocado Cream.

“This is me,” she said.

Rhiannon’s choux. Ten

“That’s what happens when you stay true to yourself,” Andy said while tasting her dish, with Jock saying he “loved it”.

Next up was Alice. Her dish was a Bacon and Egg Choux with scrambled eggs, caramelised onions and bacon.

“It’s more of an onion jam choux,” Andy said, while calling it “the best choux of the day”. Jock said he “quite liked it” and the onion was the “star of the show”. Emilia said it “surprised her”.

Alice’s dish. Ten

Finally, Larissa presented the judges with a Lemon Meringue Curd Choux Pastry.

“It’s been a day,” she said.

The judges agreed there wasn’t enough curd in the pastries and Melissa said it “just all feels… fine?!”.

Who was sent home?

Unfortunately, having a “fine” dish on elimination day meant that Larissa was the first to be eliminated; however, she was lucky enough to have the second chance apron!

“Everybody thinks I’m going home, but I’m not!” she said. “I have to keep it a secret for now, but I’ll be back in the next elimination to fight my way back in.”

While we’ve been fascinated by the red cup culture, beer pong and frat houses these movies have afforded us, over in America, it’s part and parcel of college life and so is “rushing” for a sorority.

For Gen Z, TikTok has provided a glimpse at this phenomenon, thanks to #BamaRush Tok, but now there’s a whole goddamn documentary for us to sink our teeth into.

Bama Rush. Binge

What is Bama Rush?

According to Teen Vogue and the official synopsis of the film, in August 2021, a few thousand “freshmen” entered the Tuscaloosa, Alabama heat house-to-house as millions of TikTok users watched for the coveted bid many of these young girls were vying to receive.

Becoming a viral sensation and cultural phenomenon using the hash tag “Bama Rush,” to date more than 2 billion people have watched the clips that followed.

In the upcoming feature documentary Bama Rush, Fleit follows four young women as they prepare to rush at the university in 2022 exploring the emotional complexities and stakes of belonging in this crucial window into womanhood.

Binge

“Let’s be honest, I probably wouldn’t be going to Alabama if it didn’t blow up on TikTok,” one girl says in the trailer.

Landing on to Binge on May 23, the doco will explore college life, sisterhood, and all the joys and complexities of what it means to be a young woman today.

“This film is a thoughtful and compassionate portrayal of young women in 2022 as they rush the sorority system at the University of Alabama,” director Rachel Fleit wrote in a statement provided to The New York Times.

What did we learn from the trailer?

While thousands apply, only few get in and unfortunately, this age-old institution is seeped in misogyny.

“The rankings come from fraternity boys, so the top house has the hottest girls,” one girl says while another admits that she would never have had an eating disorder growing up if the “boys didn’t say what they said to me.” WOW.

There’s also the addition of “racial segregation” which thankfully ended in 2013, but it was a huge part of the Greek sorority culture.

“The culture at Alabama is f**king weird,” another girl says.

And then this: “Not to be dramatic, but this documentary could be an end to Greek life as we know it.”

*Insert side-eye emoji here!*

The Summit’s Stephen reveals what happened after he was left dangling by his fellow trekkers

The Summit 2023 premiered with the ultimate blindside on Sunday, May 14, when Stephen Butler was literally left hanging by his fellow Trekkers.

After reaching a bridge on the second day of the climb, the father-of-two drew the short straw when the Mountain’s Keeper tasked them with the “ultimate sacrifice”.

Entering the bridge last Butler made great headway, before Isaac Compton wielded an axe cutting the rope.

“I kicked myself coming off,” he told Chattr in an interview prior to his elimination. “I was the first one there but then allowed Brooke [Kilowsky] to read out the note and she said, ‘Well, I’ll be the person who is going to run it’. It was like a sliding doors moment because I would have been the first one across and away I went.”

Stephen on The Summit. Nine

Butler’s elimination was nothing short of brutal. To make matters worse, the other Trekkers were shown walking away as he dangled above a deep crevice and even though The Summit team pulled him back via a rig, he was determined not to go home.

“They [the other contestants], obviously they knew it was coming and not me,” he said. “So I sort of got wound back to where I started. In terms of clarity of mind and what was going on, at that point I had it in my head, ‘What do I need to do here?’ because I thought they were just going to say, ‘Okay, well, you can now pave your own way.’”

The Trekkers had no idea what they were in for

According to the sock designer, the cast were only “drip-fed” information about what the show was actually about.

“We were thrown in to the deep end,” he said. “And because you were only drip fed tiny bits of information… I mean, the premise was, you have two weeks to get to the top of a mountain to win a million dollars and then we met Jai [Courtney] and he gave it some context. And then it was like, ‘Off you go, guys.’”

The Summit 2023 Trekkers. Nine

Of course, not being given much information was a well-thought out plan for the producers, because what transpired was Survivor-style gameplay and according to Butler, it meant that there were “strategic players” from the get-go.

“I think realistically speaking, this is a game and it’s to be played and you have to be strategic,” he said.

The Summit continues on 9 and 9Now at 7.30 pm.

Recap — Episode 13: Farmer Matt and Farmer David choose their Ladies on Farmer Wants a Wife

After a full recap of what we’ve already witnessed this season, it’s “the last chapter” for Farmer Wants a Wife’s Farmer David and Farmer Matt and time to see who they “will choose to spend the forseeable their future with”.

But before the life-changing decision can be made, first we must meet the families of the women that they have been sharing the past few months with.

“When I think about love, it’s the exciting moments…it’s not wanting to be anywhere else,” Farmer David says while Farmer Matt admits he’s been “craving” love.

Both Farmers head off with just ONE duffle bag each — which is concerning given that they’re probably filming over an entire week — but because All of Me is playing, it seems hella romantic!

Farmer David is hoping that the Family Visits will help him decide which woman to choose; however, first Farmer Matt is joining Annabelle on Sydney’s Central Coast.

Farmer Matt and Annabelle smooth things over

After a recap of their ~jOuRNeY~ thus far, Farmer Matt asks Annabelle how she is feeling after “last night” i.e. the sh** show that was the Black Tie Dinner. Ya know, when she made Olivia cry before storming off through Darling Harbour…

Annabelle admits that she has been “a little frustrated” (no sh**) but is OK because they’ve “discussed it and moved on”.

While she’s telling him she is good, what she’s really saying is:

Warner Bros.

When she asks him how he’s feeling, he’s all like:

Warner Bros.

And neither of them are convincing anyone…

Farmer Matt then tells her that he was sad she didn’t come to him with all of her “issues or problems” but he “guesses” since they “got the chance to talk about it”, they can “move on from there”… Cool, well…

“It shows I’ve challenged him. That’s what a relationship should be,” Annabelle says. At this point, she should just hand the trophy or whatever to Olivia.

Annabelle. Seven

While we woulda called the whole thing off right there, Annabelle and Farmer Matt arrive at her parent’s house for a grilling.

Matt says he’s “nervous” to meet her ‘rentals because he has to make a “strong impression”, but luckily, Nigel and Nicole are so effing cute he has nothing to worry about… (Except for the fact that he’s 10000% choosing someone else…)

Farmer Matt overcompensates by pulling out Annabelle’s chair and then pushes it back in for her and Nicole is goddamn in love. That and she also notices “chemistry” between them… especially when Matt is talking about Annabelle “shovelling sh**t”.

Nicole. Seven

Even though Nicole would have jumped at the chance, Nigel takes Farmer Matt for a chat by the pewl. He then asks Matt if he’s ever had a “serious, long-term” relationship and if he’s ready for one now. After convincing Nigel that he is, Annabelle’s dad then questions him if he’s serious about his daughter.

“Have you found that with Annabelle, yet?”

Farmer Matt:

Farmer Matt. Seven

Farmer Matt tells the cameras he felt “caught off guard” by the line of questioning, but then tells Nigel that he sees a future with “both” ladies. Eeep. After being probed more, he admits that he wants Annabelle to be consistent in opening, calling it the “only flaw” he “can honestly see”

Nigel:

Nigel. Seven

“I’ve gotta be honest mate, I’m a bit concerned if she doesn’t get to the final person, we’re going to have to pick up some pieces there,” Nigel says and ooft. Talk about guilt trip! Nige just went from hero to zero in two seconds flat!

Saved by the Emily and Farmer David

Farmer David meets up with Emily in Brisvegas and admits that he always has a smile on his face when he’s around her. She takes him to Daisy Hill, a place where she has “soooo many memories” and they talk about the upcoming day.

Emily is nervous because in case you didn’t hear it the first 50 times, she’s never been in a serious relationship or brought a guy back to meet the fam before… but who cares?! Just look at ’em!

Emily and Farmer David. Seven

“I feel like it’s about to step up a notch, but,” Farmer David says.

Once they arrive at Emily’s family home, sister Laura is so goddamn excited and squeals, jumping up to greet them. We also meet dad Ian, mum Michelle and Emily’s Aunty Kerry (plus an unnamed cousin or sister or friend or something…).

Michelle dives straight in and tells us Emily has ~NeVEr BeEn In a RelaTIonShip BeFoRE~ and seriously, give this gal some other qualities because if this were a drinking game, we would have been drunk all season.

Farmer David wanted to do a “cheers” but because Michelle is so invested in her unmarried daughter’s life, she begins grilling him.

“Whose on the farm?” “How many kids do you want?” “How much is the dowry?”…

Ian, the more softly spoken of the couple, gets a question in, before Michelle probes him even more.

Farmer David:

Farmer David. Seven

Emily’s mum then turns the attention on her daughter, asking if she could see herself fitting in on the farm AND do “the things you would like to do as well”. JESUIS MICHELLE. CALM DOWN.

Then Laura gets grillin’…and not the BBQ kind! She asks Emily if she has plans to move in with her cowboy to which she replies that if they did, it would be in “a month”.

“In a month…?!” Laura says, clearly chuffed…

Laura. Seven

“In a normal situation that seems quite soon. How many dates have you had? How much time have you spent one-on-one?” Laura asks and looks like she ain’t squealing with excitement anymore!

Afterwards, Farmer David tells the cameras it has been an “intense way to get to know someone but definitely exposes their true personalities” and oh my god. The SHADE.

Emily and Laura steal away for a chat and Laura wants to know how she’s feeling, but really is more concerned that she’s being “swept up in the moment”. Rather than getting defensive, Emily admits she’s worried how everything will play out in the real world.

“This is the first time I’ve told someone what I’m feeling every step of the way and that’s the difference,” she says.

Laura then tells the cameras she’s worried this may not go the way her sister is hoping and doesn’t want her to experience “devastating” heartbreak. Meanwhile, Farmer David is chatting with aunty Kerry, who reminds him once again that Emily has been a single pringle her entire existence and has no “experience” in love. She also tells him that this is “extremely” important to her niece and basically, we’re just going round in circles at this point.

“We’re a little protective,” Kerry says… You don’t say…!

“FML”. Farmer David. Seven

Farmer David is keen to talk to his first of two lady loves about how she feels the day went and says that now’s the time to hear about any “bombshells” before making his decision.

Farmer Matt and Annabelle can unwind now the family get together is over

On a much happier Central Coast, Annabelle and Matt are walking hand-in-hand on a boardwalk and arrive at a sail boat for their “Titanic moment”. While we know she’s referencing Jack and Rose, we are seriously questioning if she realises how that story ended…

Annabelle asks her collective boyfriend if he would be happy visiting her family on the Cenny Coast and he’s very quick to point out that he would “holiday” there but not “live” there. Awkies.

Farmer Matt and Annabelle. Seven

After popping a bottle of champers, they celebrate the “OK” family meeting. Farmer Matt says he’s concerned that Annabelle goes off like the cork on said bottle when she doesn’t open up and Annabelle assures him that she’s “not holding back” anymore and that their story isn’t over just yet.

“To be with you, I could live anywhere,” Annabelle said, getting emotional. “I’m really falling for you, Matt.”

“I want it to be me,” she later tells the cameras.

Farmer Matt heads to Wollongong to meet Olivia’s family

After spending some time on the Cenny Coast with Annabelle, Farmer Matt heads to Wollongong to meet up with Olivia.

“Olivia does make you feel happy and at ease and present in the moment,” he says.

Olivia and Farmer Matt at Sublime Point. Seven

After recapping their past experience on Farmer, Olivia tells Farmer Matt that he’s meeting her “mumma” and sister Belle, who acts like her “second mum”.

Farmer Matt says that he does have a “little bit of stress”, given that he’s “dating two women” at once but is excited to meet the people that “mean so much to her”.

At her family home, Farmer Matt is greeted by mum Kim, step-dad Chris and “second mum” Belle, who has never been “particularly close” with any of Olivia’s exes…also, she’s stunning.

Belle. Olivia’s sister/second-mum. Seven.

Belle is also eager to make her own “opinion about what they are like as a couple”, so we’re expecting a lot of questions. Apparently, the family play a game of “best part of the day and worst part”, but instead Belle wants to know the “best date and worst date” they’ve had.

Farmer Matt is completely overwhelmed and his eyes are screaming for help.

Farmer Matt. Seven

When speaking to the cameras, he says there are a lot of “big personalities” at the table, by which he means the women because step-dad Chris hasn’t made a sound.

“I do see that as something that I could quite easily put up with,” Matt says. Lol. “Well, embrace, perhaps.”

Farmer Matt says his best date was with Olivia at the chocolate factory and Kim points out that there’s a lot of “hand holding” going on…not helpful Kim. We want to know his worst date!

Belle says that they seem quite “smitten” with one another, and probes them about Matt’s move to Canberra.

Olivia reveals that she has already spoken to her employer about doing flexi hours with her new contract meaning she would do Monday-Thursday in the Gong and travel to Canberra or Bookham on Thursday evenings to spend time with Matt “potentially”.

Belle says she doesn’t want Olivia to make all the “sacrifices”, which is so fair, and Farmer Matt is shocked by the revelation, because he just thought his second girlfriend would move with him.

Farmer Matt. Seven

Farmer Matt is concerned that being long-distance would put a strain on the relo before Belle “steals” him away for a chat.

In a piece-to-camera, he says that the future with Olivia looks “messy” compared to one with Annabelle. He then says the key thing in their relationship would be that it would “take time” and wants to talk to her about it.

Farmer David and Emily share their “last moments” together before the decision is made

Farmer David and Emily are now at the Emporium Hotel in Brisbane, looking like a million bucks.

Emily and Farmer David. Seven

Up on the rooftop, Farmer David asks how she feels after spending time her “intense” family, especially after the moving out topic came up.

“Does that create any doubts how you foresaw going back to the farm?” he asks her.

Emily admits it’s a really big decision and even though she has “no doubts” and she “can’t fully commit” to moving yet. Farmer David hopes it’s just the stress of the final decision.

She is willing to make the sacrifice, but not knowing what he is going to decide, is halting that.

“I am falling in love with you,” she says and they kiss. Passionately.

Emily and Farmer David. Seven

After leaving Brisvegas, Farmer David heads to Newcastle to meet Lorelei.

After a recap of their time on the show, Farmer David tells her he’s glad that they’ve made it to this point. He is worried about the reality of the farm becoming daunting for her.

Then they go to her family home to meet Lorelei’s family: mum Danielle, dad Darren and brothers Marty and Harrison.

Harrison thinks David is “charming” and seems like a “lovely guy”, but wants to know if Lorelei a.k.a “Louie” would be happy leaving her beachside home of the Gold Coast. She tells her family that she’s “ready for a change” and is happy on the farm.

Unlike Emily’s fambam, Lorelei’s family are very “positive” and “supportive”. Harrison takes his sister aside and after chatting with her, says that it may be the “happiest” she’s ever seen her with a partner before.

Harrison. Seven

Farmer David’s final one-on-one time with Lorelei

After the quickest lunch ever (not a good sign), it’s time for the Farmers to have some one-on-one with Olivia and Lorelei.

Farmer David says that he feels that after the lunch they have “a lot to celebrate” and that they have all “those right things for a relationship”, but he’s worried that she moves around a lot and if she were to be chosen, she couldn’t do that anymore.

When talking to her about it, she says: “the word forever is a really long time”, but says when you find that special someone, it’s “the sacrifices you make”.

“We’ve found something pretty amazing,” he says. “It’s good to be here.” They kiss.

Lorelei and Farmer David. Seven

“I know that you’ll make the right decision,” she tells him.

In a piece-to-camera she gets emotional saying the “worst outcome” would be not being the girl at the end.

Farmer Matt and Olivia’s final one-on-one time

Farmer Matt and Olivia are now along in a garden (again) and he tells her that although “today was really good”, his biggest insecurity is the fact that she wants to do long-distance. He then asks her about timeframes and says that the move to Canberra will be for about “five years”…

“I really do have a big decision to make and I really want to make sure that we can make this work outside of this,” he tells her.

Olivia admits she doesn’t want to give him a timeline and that it’s still important for them to take “baby steps” but she doesn’t want to do long distance for “too long because I like being around you too much.”

Farmer Matt is now tres confused.

Farmer Matt and Olivia. Seven

Farmer Matt’s final decision

Farmer Matt reflects on his two ladies and says that his relationship with Annabelle is “a lot easier to plan out” but at the end of the day, he needs to figure out “who makes my heart sing”.

Olivia admits she “loves so much about Matt”, including how the “world stops” when they’re together. On the other hand, Annabelle says she’s had “such an amazing time” with her Farmer.

“I see it with him and I want this,” she said.

Annabelle is the first one out of the car, which means doom, as Matt says in a voiceover that he’s in love.

“I’ve always admired your honesty,” Matt tells her. “Your hugs have been a massive highlight… Annabelle you are the most caring, kind person. These are all traits I want in my future partner, I’m just really sorry, that I’ve fallen for someone else.” Ooft.

“I just feel numb… he’s obviously not the one for me,” Annabelle says.

Then, Olivia arrives.

“Olivia, when I first met you, I was so nervous I was going to stuff it up but you were so easy to talk to… your laughter is something that is truly stunning.

“Olivia, I started this experience, hoping to find someone to share the rest of my life with… Olivia, I have fallen in love with you and I want to share my future with you.”

After the pair mack on, Farmer Matt says: “I think I’ve known for a while.”

“Yay!” she said. Cute.

Farmer Matt and Olivia. Seven

Farmer David’s final decision

It’s Farmer David’s turn and he says he can see a very “happy future with both of the girls”.

Lorelei also reflects on the decision, saying she is “nervous” while Emily says it feels like “we’re the only people in the world” when she’s with David.

Emily gets out of the car first.

“The farm was tricky for you at the start,” he says. “I love the way that we have effortless conversation. But, having relationships isn’t something you’ve got the biggest track record of… and I do worry, you will be overwhelmed…”

What’s this?! A PLOT TWIST!

Lorelei is now being shown.

“Lorelei, I still smile when I think back to the first time we met,” he says. “The way you make me smile, the way you challenge me…plays on my mind everyday. Coming into this, I never knew you’d shape my future… Louie, I hope you know how much I adore you.

“And it breaks my heart to tell you, I’ve fallen so heavily for someone else and I have to give that future a chance.”

Lorelei. Seven.

Lorelei goes quiet and faints in David’s arms.

“I got you. It’s OK,” he says. “I’m sorry.”

“I really thought I had a chance,” she says.

Finally, Emily is back.

“I came here to find a future,” Farmer David tells her. “Emily, you are the most genuine person I know. I love the way you wear all your emotions on your face. I know you haven’t had many serious relationships… I hope this will be your last. I’ve completely fallen in love with you and I can’t wait to see where this future goes.”

“I’ve wanted this moment so bad and I’m just so happy,” she says.

Thank god, now we’ll never have to hear just how single Emily has been ever again!
