The Block’s Guest Suite reveals quickly got derailed on Sunday night when one judging descended into chaos as the judges couldn’t stop laughing at a team’s confusing choices.
Judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox were left stunned by some quirks in House Five’s guest suites. The judges criticised everything from Rick and Tayla‘s barn door to their painting and the wallpaper, along with some odd inclusions like a pot plant hidden under a desk and a random air fryer.
By contrast, Courtney and Sev got their mojo back in a big way, with the judges praising their luxurious, self-contained design and polished ensuite. They even received two perfect 10s and topped the leaderboard on 29.5 points but House Five’s Rick and Tayla trailed behind with 17 points.
Melbourne interior designer Chris Carroll of TLC Interiors shared his unfiltered thoughts on the rooms.
Chris told Chattr he agreed with the winning room — but with one caveat. “Though I’m not certain every buyer wants a guest suite with a kitchenette, Courtney and Sev’s was by far the most successful,” he said.
“Stylistically, it worked well: the wallpapered headboard was a genius idea, and the ensuite was flawless. This was the first time this season a reveal has provided something inspiring.” He did recommend a few stylistic changes. “Some small changes were needed (artwork above the bed, and a more neutral quilt cover set). But outside of that, they nailed it.”
Chris also had some criticism to direct at two other teams. “Lisa and Rosco had a fall from grace this week, delivering a room that felt a bit juvenile and a little pedestrian. Coming off of last week’s great living room, this guest suite was a real disappointment. Even the ensuite did nothing to save their zone,” Chris told Chattr.
“Adam and Jolene’s two zones may have been cohesive, but the colour was turned up way too much. It didn’t evoke quiet luxury at all. The two tiles in their ensuite were fighting each other too, so it all felt a little visually chaotic.”
However, he saved his harshest feedback for Tayla and Rick, who failed to impress the judges this week, even earning a warning from Shaynna and Marty that their property could be ‘unsellable’ at this point, a claim that Tayla told Chattr was ‘ridiculous’.

By far, Tayla’s Guest Suite earned the worst feedback, with the judges struggling to find anything nice to say about the room and ensuite.
Chris said this criticism was rightly deserved, but said that Tayla wasn’t the problem. “Rick and Tayla’s was the worst,” he said.
“Tayla deserved the harsh criticism. But that is a Block problem, not a Tayla problem. If the show casts amateurs, what can it expect but amateur rooms? The show needs a reboot, with the teams having some design and build experience. As viewers, we’ve become tired of seeing amateur design. We want to be inspired again. The Block used to be the place for this, but not so much in recent years.”
Chris went on to describe the main issues with Tayla’s room, but noted one feature he disagreed with the judges on. “That wallpaper would work wonders in a kids’ room but here it did not evoke quiet luxury in any way. Most of the room felt cheap and thrown together,” he said.
“Although I will argue that a desk in a guest room is a great idea. The judges bagged it out as a wasted space, but guests love having somewhere to sit besides the bed. You can work on your laptop at the desk, use it as a spot to pop your bags down.”
