Sunday night’s guest suite room reveals on The Block secured another win for House Four, with Courtney and Sev topping the leaderboard with two perfect 10s and taking home a cool $10k to match.
The same couldn’t be said for Rick and Tayla, who struggled the most with Rick away with an infection. Tayla’s styling choices were not embraced by judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox, which left House Five in last place with 17 points.
The judges didn’t have many positives to say about the suite, with the judging descending into chaos when they realised a pot plant was hidden under a desk. “Why did you put it under the desk?” asked host Scott Cam. “Shaynne completely lost it.” The episode had the interior designer laughing uncontrollably before realising that a random air fryer and a bottle of wine were included in the guest room. The giggles continued.

In their criticism, both Marty and Shaynna said the property was ‘unsellable’ at this stage. “The whole thing is cooked,” Marty added. “We are really serious… we are worried about this house,” Shaynna declared.
In an exclusive interview with Chattr, Rick and Tayla gave their unfiltered thoughts on the judges — and the dad did not hold back on his views on realtor Marty Fox.
“I loved Darren. But I hated Shaynna and I hated that c**khead,” Rick said. “Don’t say hate,” added Tayla, telling Chattr that “Shayna grew on me, but Marty… I’m still not a fan. Sorry, mate.”
Rick continued his rant about Marty. “There are ways of judging. Standing up there on a Sunday night, having your daughter be criticised by these judges. I mean, Darren is a legend… but they pretty much took the p**s out of Tayla’s styling,” he said.

Tayla jumped in to say that these negative remarks affected Rick more than her. “It didn’t hurt me at all but it really got to Dad,” she said. Clearly!

In response to the judges’ feedback, Tayla explained to Chattr what really happened with the pot plant. “This was so annoying because what I wanted to achieve there with the chair in the corner and then the pot plant, they were originally outside because I wanted to show that it’s the guest suite. Therefore, that guest bedroom has its own little outside area — there’s an outside door,” Tayla said.
“I had the plant, but there was a scaffold there. I just got a piece of wood, or two planks of wood, and sat the chair randomly on the scaffold, and then put a plant next to it… it just looked funny… I’ll just put it inside. And that was wrong. That was very wrong. I did shove it under the table, but it’s an easy fix.”
Overall, Tayla has grown frustrated that the judges often target her styling choices, which she says shouldn’t change the house’s value. “I think it’s ridiculous,” she said.
“All they commented on was the chair, the plant that was shoved in the corner, the air fryer, which I’m pretty sure was my sister [adding it], not me, and the bottle of wine… but it’s like a welcoming gift for the guests who stay in the suite,” Tayla continued.
“It’s not just like a random bottle of wine there. It’s there for a reason.”
The Block airs on Sundays at 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
