Rick and Tayla’s latest room reveal on The Block 2026 has sparked a wave of reactions online, with viewers piling onto Instagram to share their thoughts after the judges delivered some brutal feedback during Sunday night’s episode.
The judging trio were left in stitches as they critiqued the room which they described as a “unsellable”.
“This is terrible,” Marty said. “Look at that barn door. The doona looks like carpet.”

Many viewers took to social media to concur with the judges’ assessment, with one writing, “The ribbon wine, the random plants, the wallpaper… I can’t 😂😂 I’m with the judges on this one 💯.”
Another couldn’t get past one particular design feature, commenting, “What in 1980s was going on with the pampas grass 😳.”
Others felt the room looked dated rather than contemporary.
“What in the 2020 Kmart catalog!” one fan joked, with another adding: “Not sure how they got on this show the whole thing is horrendous.”
While some viewers felt Tayla was unfairly singled out, many argued the judges’ feedback went well beyond a few decorative items.
“Geez, Tayla, I hope you stopped mucking around and started listening to the judges… because it wasn’t just about a pot plant and an airfryer book. It was also about a massive mirror leaning on curtains, an outdoor chair, no bar fridge, unusable bedsides, and unfinished painting. The scores were appropriate. 😒,” one person wrote.
Another viewer encouraged Tayla to embrace the feedback rather than brush it aside.
“Aw Tayla – love the spirit with which you take the criticism! But spirit ain’t enough unless you take the advice on board… do yourself a favour & pick Sev’s styling brains coz she’s creating beauty!”
Others were far less forgiving.
“This is a hot mess. They have done so many bedrooms, has she learned nothing?” one viewer commented.
Another added, “Sorry Tayla, but this is all wrong.”
Tayla and Rick hit back at the judges’ feedback
In an exclusive interview with Chattr regarding the harshness of the episode, Rick and Tayla hit back at the judges, in particular the frequent critiques of Tayla’s styling.
“I loved Darren. But I hated Shaynna and I hated that c**khead,” Rick said. “Don’t say hate,” added Tayla, telling Chattr that “Shayna grew on me, but Marty… I’m still not a fan. Sorry, mate.”
Rick added: “There are ways of judging. Standing up there on a Sunday night, having your daughter be criticised by these judges. I mean, Darren is a legend… but they pretty much took the p**s out of Tayla’s styling,” he said.
Tayla went on to say she feels targeted by the judges.
“I think it’s ridiculous,” she said. “All they commented on was the chair, the plant that was shoved in the corner, the air fryer, which I’m pretty sure was my sister [adding it], not me, and the bottle of wine… but it’s like a welcoming gift for the guests who stay in the suite.”
“It’s not just like a random bottle of wine there. It’s there for a reason.”
The Block airs on Sundays at 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
