Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026’s Bec Zacharia was left heartbroken at Final Vows after professing her love to Danny Hewitt, only for him to turn around and break up with her. And in an interview with Chattr, the MAFS bride has opened up about how heartbroken she was and whether Danny reached out to her afterwards.
On TV, it may be obvious to viewers that Bec’s strong feelings for Danny arent reciprocted. However, Bec explained that she was so blindsided by his decision to walk away because she had made it clear to him that she wouldn’t go to Final Vows unless he said yes.
“I took him out for his birthday [a few days before Final Vows], and we had a great time, and he said to me, ‘We’re 100% leaving together. I’m falling in love with you’.
“‘I’m saving those three words to say to you at Final Vows’, was his exact words of what he said to me, and when we were apart, doing our deliberations for those four days, he was sending me love songs, so I truly believed that we were leaving together.
“It absolutely broke my heart. It shocked me, but it also made me realise that he had kept me in the experiment for three and a half months because he didn’t want to be with me. He wanted fame.”
Bec said that she was an emotional wreck after Final Vows, and “didn’t get out of bed for six days” because she was so heartbroken.
“The people that were there for me day in day out were Rebecca [Zukowski], Rachel [Gilmore] and Sammy [Stanton[, every day, five times a day, these people were on the phone to me.”
She added that after she walked off from the Final Vows ceremony in tears, Danny never even bothered to check in on her in the days that followed.
“He refused to speak to me,” she revealed. “Danny did not ring me. He did not speak to me. I ended up ringing him. He didn’t answer. I had to message him and say, Danny, I need to speak to you.”
“After Final Vows, he messaged Sammy Stanton and said, ‘Tell Bec I’ll call her in a couple of days’. He never rang. I was the one who had to reach out to him to try and get answers as to why this happened.”

MAFS’ Bec believes Danny used her for screentime
Bec was wrapped up in a lot of this season’s drama, which subsequently earned her plenty of airtime. And, the MAFS bride told Chattr that she believes Danny clocked the fact that he could boost his social media following by being with her, and riding out the experiment by her side.
Bec said that Danny ramped up his affection towards her right at the end of the experiment — especially off camera — and she believes it was because he wanted her to stay until Final Vows.
“100%, it was strategic for him to tell me that he was falling in love with me off camera, that we were leaving together, that we were the strongest couple. He would say that to me every single day,” she dished.
“It was strategic, because he’s telling me what I want to hear to keep me sweet, but then behind my back, he’s telling the camera something completely different.”
Bec said that Danny’s Final Vows decision made her question his feelings for her throughout the entire experiment, adding that she picked up on his game plan while watching the show back.
“I question his intentions over the whole time. I think you can see on his face that he’s not interested in me, but when the cameras were down, he was very much telling me exactly what I wanted to hear. ‘We’re the strongest couple. I can’t wait to move to Adelaide. You’re everything I want’. You know, sending me love songs every day.
“But then I’m watching it back, and I’m going, well, hang on a second, you’re purposely saying things that you know are going to rile me up, because then that gives you an excuse to say our fight styles don’t match. But why did you tell me you were falling in love with me five days before Final Vows, only to dump me five days later?”
Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 Reunion airs Sunday and Monday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
