Who does Farmer Alex choose as his winner? An underdog is predicted to win Farmer’s heart

Who is Farmer Alex's winner on Farmer Wants A Wife Australia 2026

Farmer Alex Thompson-Welch is one of the more refreshing additions to Farmer Wants A Wife (FWAW) Australia 2026. And between Eddy and Suzannah, it’s anyone’s guess who he picks.

The 28-year-old is based in Queensland’s Noosa Hinterland, where he works as a cattle and mushroom farmer.

Alex’s farm life is a little different from the usual reality TV image of paddocks and tractors: Alex grows specialty mushrooms in carefully controlled indoor environments, while cattle roam the family’s 400-acre property. He has been described as grounded, creative and curious, with a love of music, travel, good food and the outdoors. A real renaissance man!

Alex is also the show’s first mushroom farmer, and his work clearly keeps him busy. “We’re growing rapidly so the work keeps me on the farm seven days a week,” he said. Ooft!

But all this hard work is part of a bigger plan. “I have been working hard to build my life and wealth so I can comfortably disappear overseas for a while,” Alex said, adding: “I am keen to embark on this journey with someone I love.” Umm, I volunteer!

So what is Alex looking for in a potential partner? “I am looking for someone who is deeply connected with themselves and the world around them,” he admitted. “I am looking for someone who values learning. I am a nerd at heart, and I want to be with someone similar.”

That said, he also seeks someone to balance his serious side with a bit of silliness. “I would love someone artistic, fun, and sometimes a bit cheeky. I can be quite serious sometimes, so I am looking for someone with vibrance and light. I really would like a partner who will bring joy and bundles of playful energy to my life,” he said.

And this lucky lady has some rom-com moments coming her way if Alex has anything to do with it. “Life is too short not to make grand gestures,” he said. “I have a lust for life, and I want to share this journey with someone who feels the same.”

So who will win Farmer Alex’s heart? Read on for a huge spoiler!

Farmer Alex’s love story on Farmer Wants A Wife

Farmer Alex’s Farmer Wants A Wife journey has been one of the season’s most romantic.

After the speed dates, the Queensland mushroom and cattle farmer chose Eddy, Delia, Suzannah, Gabbie and Rachel to come back to the farm, sending Alicia, Ebony and Samara home.

From the start, Eddy looked like the woman to beat. Their golf-themed speed date clearly made an impression, and Alex later picked her for his 24-hour date, where he gave her a gold mother-of-pearl pendant before the pair shared a kiss.

But their fairytale start quickly hit a speed bump. At dinner, Eddy said grace, which threw Alex off completely, as he admitted he wasn’t sure he could have a long-term relationship with someone religious. Eddy later clarified that she isn’t devout, but does believe there is “something” out there and would want her children christened, though not necessarily raised in a strictly religious household.

Meanwhile, Delia dropped out of the race, as she struggled with the competitive format and chose to leave the farm, telling Alex she didn’t want to force a connection.

With Eddy still the clear frontrunner, Suzannah has emerged as one to watch after their strong early spark. Suzannah made a strong first impression in the premiere. Alex had said his perfect woman would have “pale skin and long dark hair”, then Suzannah walked in, matching that description perfectly.

Alex pulled Suzannah aside at the Country Ball, where they bonded over books, and he said they shared similarities he didn’t have with Eddy. Then in episode five, he took Suzannah on a solo waterfall date where they kissed, and he said he could see “the potential for feelings to grow for Suzannah”.

But, who will Farmer Alex choose in the end?

Spoiler: Who does Farmer Alex pick as his winner on Farmer Wants A Wife?

Could underdog Eddy Fry be Alex’s winner? Throughout his dates, Farmer Alex has been constantly comparing all his Ladies to Eddy and based on some suss social media activity, it looks likely that Alex does indeed select Eddy in the finale.

One big clue is that Alex is already following Will Fry on Instagram. Ring any bells?

In an Instagram post on Eddy’s page, she has a tagged photo of Will, captioned “Just a coupla french fries #frysiblings,” which confirms that Will is Eddy’s brother.

This could suggest that Alex has become close with Eddy’s sibling while they’ve been dating post-finale. Add to that, Will follows Alex back in return. BFFs! This revelation follows Alex being quite vocal on the show about how the other women’s dates don’t quite compare to his undeniable connection to Eddy.

In interviews, Alex hasn’t exactly been discreet about how he fell hard for Eddy, admitting that he always knew he would pick her for his first date. “When I picked, there was no question in my mind that I was choosing Eddy for that 24-hour date,” he told Marie Claire. “I was really happy with the five ladies I took back to the farm, but Eddy was the clear frontrunner.”

In an interview with Chattr, Alex spoke further about their instant spark. “I was a bit shocked by the decision that I made, because Eddy didn’t actually represent the things that I originally went onto the show looking for,” he said about picking her for the first date. “She just wowed me [in] that very small amount of time that we had together, and so I maybe [chose her] a little bit on impulse.”

Of course, we will have to wait until Farmer Alex’s finale to find out who will become the mush to his room!

Farmer Wants A Wife airs at 7pm on Mondays and 7:30pm on Tuesdays on Channel 7 and streams on 7Plus.
