Dave Hand and Sophie Willett were crowned the winners of Perfect Match Season 4 after a juicy finale — but, Dave tells Chattr that a huge part of the finale was cut out, and that they were actually tied with another couple after the first vote.
“What originally happened is everyone voted, then it was the top two, so it was Me and Sophie and Yamen and Natalie, we were tied. Yeah, everyone had to re-vote again for just us two couples,” he spills.
However, viewers never got to see the tense tie-breaker play out on screen, with the episode cutting straight to host Nick Lachey announcing Dave and Sophie as the official winners after the second round of voting.
“So we had to do a revote, and I didn’t think it was possible [for us to win] until the revote,” Dave shared. “So Yamen and Natalie came second, and then we were first.”
Dave revealed that he almost voted for Yamen and Natalie, but changed his mind at the last minute which helped secure him the win with Sophie — as one more vote for Yamen and Natalie would have broken the original tie.
“I voted for Jimmy and Allison, I was going to vote for Yamen and Natalie, but then I ended up voting for Jimmy and Allison.”

When asked whether he thought people voted for Yamen and Natalie strategically — in the hopes of not backing a stronger couple who could beat them — Dave said he didn’t believe that was the case.
“I think a lot of people were like. it was could have been strategic, but I don’t think that anyone was really like, ‘Oh if I do this then that will happen, I don’t think it happens like that.’ In the moment, it’s very quick.”
Dave revealed that the cast didn’t actually head to the Boardroom to vote for their winner, instead they filmed scenes after the decision was announced.
“The Boardroom’s filmed after [the results are announced]. So, we’re just all voting on a bit of paper, and then a couple of hours later, we do the filming for the Boardroom.”
Who voted for Dave and Sophie and did they think they were going to win Perfect Match?
Dave said that after he and Sophie won the final challenge he began to think there was a chance they could win Perfect Match.
“After the challenge and the boardroom and stuff like that, we were sort of like, okay, this is falling into our favour a little bit, but we never really thought 100% we’re gonna win, I went in there having fun,” he said.
“I didn’t think I’d really connect with anybody… And somehow me and Sophie connected the way we did, and that’s what made it super special.”
Dave added that he thinks the friendships he and Sophie built throughout their time in the villa are what ultimately led to their win.
“I felt that once it wasn’t a draw [we had a chance], because I had such a good connection with everyone in the villa, like I seriously just got along with everyone. Sophie had the girls that she came in with, you know, Kassy and Kat, and she made good friends in the villa, so I thought, as soon as it was a draw, I was like, we’re in a good position here.”

Dave added that he thinks a lot of their votes came from the women of the house.
“I think the majority of the girls would have just because, look, I know I kissed a lot of girls, and this and that, but I think that I was genuine, and I was respectful, and I was honest with how I felt the whole way through, and I wasn’t there to win,” he explained.
“I didn’t have an agenda, and I think that people could see that, so I think majority of the girls respected me as a person, and that’s why we would have got it.
“But, the boys as well, the majority of the boys in the house, we had such a strong bond and time together. I still talk to everyone, so it’s sort of like I’ve got no beef, and I think that that goes a long way.”
In another unaired moment, Dave shared that after their win, Nick Lachey praised Dave and Sophie for the way they were open throughout much of their time in the villa, and said they did the show ‘the way it should be done.'”
“The reason I think we won is because Sophie and I… We did flirt around, we did kiss a lot of people and then somehow we came together in this organic way of connecting,” Dave explained.
“I really do feel like the way that Sophie and I went about the show– the purpose of the show got us over the line. We were open, we were, you know, we dived into the experience, and we had fun, and then we found each other. I think that’s what the show is about.”
