MAFS' Steven reveals whether he and Rachel had sex: 'Home run'

"Did we get there in the end?"

Avid Married at First Sight (MAFS) viewers will remember that the main storyline at the Couples’ Retreat centred around Rachel and Steven’s sex life — or lack thereof.

At the Dinner Party that immediately followed, Steven called the rest of the cast out for “pressuring” him and Rachel to get intimate, and told the cast that “when that time comes”, they’ll all know.

Now, fast forward to post-Final Vows, where Rachel and Steven chose to leave the experiment together and continue their relationship. However, viewers were never given the update on their sex life that Steven had promised — until now. In an interview with Chattr, he’s finally revealed where things stand.

“Did we get there in the end? Of course we did! We made it the whole way. A home run — me trying to figure out my bases in the experiment, and what the bases were.”

Steven added that, despite their physical chemistry not being blatantly obvious on the show, it was very much there.

“Of course, we [have a physical spark]. I mean, you can’t do that for three months and fake it. We had our challenges, and it was moments you can see on screen that we’re having time, you know, bad times and all that. But by the end, you can’t fake that sort of stuff.”

“It’s as real as it gets with Rachel and I, our story is such an emotional rollercoaster and personal development. I feel like the Rachel that I’ve met at the wedding and the honeymoon is not the same Rachel that I know today.

“I feel like I know her so much better now, and we get each other now, and we’ve got that personal growth that, you know, I’m sure I could say the Collingwood joke again [from our Honeymoon], and it wouldn’t be taken out of context. We’ve grown together, definitely.”

Steven said his decision to stay with Rachel at MAFS Final Vows was simple

Before Final Vows, all of the couples were separated for four days in what’s known as deliberations, giving each person time to decide whether they wanted to continue their relationship outside the experiment. However, Steven said it didn’t take him long to make his decision.

“I was pretty confident in my decision,” he said. “You have to think about it and go, what’s it going to be like leaving the safety net of the experiment and how are we going to deal with this long distance and all these things? But, no, it wasn’t one of those decisions where it’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t know,’ I was very confident,” he told Chattr.

He added that he didn’t seek advice from the other MAFS grooms, as he wanted to make the decision for himself.

“This is your decision. You can’t have outside influences. What Rachel and I have gone through, no one else knows. I mean, people have only seen what they’ve seen. No one really knows what happens behind closed doors and what we do. So no, I didn’t really reach out to anyone and have that influence.”

Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 Reunion airs Sunday and Monday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
