Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 stars Rachel Gilmore and Steven Danyluk gave viewers one of the season’s few feel-good moments at Final Vows, choosing each other and walking away as a couple. While their decision may have come as a surprise to some fans, Steven told Chattr that he and Rachel had a lot of in-depth conversations about their future that didn’t make it to air.
“Rachel and I had those discussions behind closed doors. We had discussions about life arrangements and kids. What happens when kids come along? You know, property and stuff like that. We have these conversations, and you sort of reflect on going, geez, my life as I knew it is going to change, possibly forever,” he shared.
“We had these conversations into the early hours of the morning, and these conversations were good as well. You actually bond over them. They’re heavy at first, and you sort of bond and go, and it actually brings you closer at the end of it.
“We sort of aligned, and we compromise, and we’ve got a plan and then and it’s just going back. How are we going to implement that plan?”
Steven explained that they made a post-MAFS plan to do long-distance for six months before either of them made the interstate move, as Rachel is based in Melbourne and Steven in Sydney.
“The plan was long-distance for six months, see where it goes. It might be nine months a year, whatever it is, we’re always going to do the six months in a state and try to keep in contact as much as possible, doing long distance.”
“So that’s what we agreed on… There was a rumour going around that I was going to move to Melbourne. That’s not true. I was never moving to Melbourne. Rachel even said it on Home Stays that we’re doing six months [long distance]. That’s exactly how the plan was, yeah. So there was none of this on moving to Melbourne. I don’t like Melbourne. It’s not for me, and I was never going to move there!”
He added that if the six-month long-distance went well, then Rachel was open to moving to Sydney.
“It’s about compromising for each other….If everything works out, she said she may move to Sydney for a little bit, and then we’ll go find a place together.”
Steven said no spoilers about their relationship fate have been true so far
There’s been a lot of spoilers circulating about Steven and Rachel’s relationship, with many inside sources claiming that they split shortly after Final Vows — and MAFSFunny reporting that he “ghosted her”.
However, Steven told Chattr that wasn’t the case and teased that none of the leaks about what’s happened between them since filming wrapped has been accurate so far.
“This whole bull c**p that I ghosted her, never happened!” He said, cryptically adding, “There are a lot of rumours. I don’t think anyone has gotten the truth. The reunion will spill the truth.”
“If there’s anything I can say, it’s that [what comes out at the Reunion] is confusing. It’s going to be confusing [for viewers]. I really hope everyone can try to figure it out, and I hope they show as much as they can.”
Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 Reunion airs Sunday and Monday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
