  • The Block fans have slammed the “bullying” of Courtney and Sev, saying online commentary about the pair has become “borderline misogynistic and childish”.
  • Viewers have called out cruel comments about the women this season, including Courtney, Sev, Jolene and Lisa, with one describing the commentary as “very disgusting”.
  • Some fans argued criticism should be directed at the judges and producers, rather than contestants who don’t control the scores, prizes or edit.
  • Courtney and Sev’s supporters have defended the pair, claiming they’ve been targeted since their first win and calling comments about their appearance “vile” and “incorrect”.

The Block fans have called out what they believe is an increasingly nasty online pile-on against Courtney and Sev, with viewers arguing that criticism of the contestants has crossed the line.

A Reddit thread titled “The bullying of Courtney and Sev is out of hand” sparked a discussion about the way contestants — particularly the women — have been spoken about online throughout the season.

The original poster urged fellow viewers to remember that the contestants are real people, writing that while fans are free to critique their design choices or the judging process, some of the commentary has become “borderline misogynistic and childish”.

“You can critique their design style, or the judging process but the comments online are starting to feel borderline misogynistic and childish,” the post read.

“I’ve never seen contestants treated so poorly for no particular reason. Mocking their appearance, and calling names like we are in school again.”

The Reddit user went on to suggest that some of the backlash may stem from the perception that Courtney and Sev are “too confident”.

“You can really tell that many people are trying to humble two women who they think are too confident,” they wrote.

“Remember to be kind, these are real people.”

‘Very disgusting comments’ about The Block women

The post quickly attracted support from viewers who said they had noticed similarly vicious commentary directed at other women on The Block this season.

“There has been very disgusting comments about most of the women this season, doesn’t matter if you like or hate any of them, it’s uncalled for,” one viewer wrote.

“I’ve seen so horrible comments about Jolene and Lisa, and people seem to think it’s okay based on their personal feelings and too many others are just agreeing with it. Everyone needs to be better.”

Another agreed, writing: “Thank you! It’s disgusting the way they talk about the girls.”

Others argued that fans should direct their frustrations at the people who actually control the competition, rather than the contestants themselves.

“We need to keep the criticism where it belongs. The judges and producers,” one person wrote.

“The contestants this season are just people doing hard work to build the houses. We need to remember that they don’t control the scores, the prizes or the edit.”

While the thread largely rallied behind Courtney and Sev, some commenters pointed out that the call for kindness should apply to every contestant, not just the favourites.

“The words ‘remember to be kind, these are real people’ apply to everyone on the show,” one viewer wrote.

“But for some of you, it only matters when it’s for your favourites.”

The commenter went on to reference some of the “nasty stuff” they had seen posted about the contestants, including speculation about their real-life relationships.

“I’ve seen a lot of nasty stuff said on here, some of the most nasty was ‘theories’ on people’s real life marriage and how one wife could treat a certain husband at home when the cameras are not on,” they wrote.

“But yeah, be selective with what you call out by all means.”

The Block fans have a theory about why Courtney and Sev have been targeted

Another viewer pointed out that the pair had been targeted ever since their first win.

“The girls have been hated since they won first,” they wrote.

“Their design is generally better a lot of the time too. I think that’s why the other contestants don’t like them, it’s just pathetic.”

The commenter also praised Tayla for being able to celebrate other contestants’ wins while still being disappointed when she loses.

“Tayla is the only one that can celebrate with them but be pissed off for herself losing,” they wrote.

“The others seem to think the girls are personally to blame for the judges comments and give them the cold shoulder.”

In response to the original poster’s remark that comments about physical appearance should be off limits, one commenter simply asked: “Their appearance? They are beautiful, what’s wrong with people.”

“The stuff I’m seeing about appearance is just vile and incorrect because they are both lovely looking,” another added.

“In some way all the contestants have annoyed me with their actions or words but I’m rooting for the girls.”

Another viewer said they had supported the pair from the beginning.

“I actually really like Courtney and Sev, we’ve been rooting for them since the beginning.”

With tensions continuing to simmer both inside and outside the competition, it seems The Block’s latest drama isn’t just about houses — it’s also about how far fans are willing to go when discussing the people building them.

The Block airs Sunday – Wednesday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
