Courtney and Sev absolutely dominated The Block’s Kids’ Room and Redo Week, scoring a perfect 30 out of 30 and taking home a huge $50,000 in prize money.
Their revamped living and dining area impressed the judges, despite its noticeable similarities to Adam and Jolene’s design, including the fireplace and mirrored elements.
It was high scores all round as Lisa and Rosco came agonisingly close with 29 points. Their colourful kids’ bedroom — complete with an Australiana-inspired reading nook — was a major hit, while their redone guest suite was called one of the nicest bedrooms on The Block.
However, unfinished skirting-board painting cost them perfect scores, leaving Lisa frustrated over what she saw as inconsistent judging. Melbourne interior designer Chris Carroll of TLC Interiors told Chattr that he didn’t believe that Courtney and Sev deserved perfect 10s. In fact, Chris told Chattr the women only won by default.

“Courtney and Sev were the best of a bad bunch, given that only one other team designed a bedroom for kids. That said, it had a few issues. The choice of timber for the robes felt disconnected from the timber tones they’ve used elsewhere. The same goes for the colour palette. The room belongs in a completely different home. The three bedside tables were also a strange choice,” he told Chattr.
“The wave headboard was actually quite stunning, but it was so overshadowed by all of the other dominant features that you really lost the beauty of it. These two have shown great restraint elsewhere and rocked a neutral palette well. It would have been great to see that carried over into their kids’ room.”
Given these issues that Chris flagged, he admits he was ‘surprised’ that judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox gave their room a perfect score. “Their redo room lacked sufficient change to warrant a perfect score. The fireplace location in their living room was odd. One person receives extreme heat from it, and the sofa blocks anyone else from standing in front of it. It and the tinted mirror is not enough of a redo to warrant a perfect 10 for me,” he said.
“In the kids’ room, there was no cohesion between it and the other rooms they’ve designed. If you’re selling a home, you want the kids’ bedroom to relate stylistically to the other spaces. This kids’ room was an explosion of colour that was at complete odds with the rest of the house.”
By contrast, Chris praised Lisa and Rosco as completing “the best redo room” of the reveal. “Their guest bedroom started off as pretty diabolical and it ended up a gorgeous, serene space with considered colour, interesting furniture profiles, and better styling. It now resembles the other rooms in their home, which is consistently cohesive each week,” he shared.
Interior designer reveals which kids’ room were designed the worst on The Block
Chris was less enthused with Adam and Jolene, who tied with Rick and Tayla on 21.5 points.
“Adam and Jolene’s redo room was pointless. It started off as a pretty bland, undercooked room. While they have stripped that feeling away, it’s not for the better. The wallpaper and the rug fight one another, there’s still no curtain on the window, and the armchair is still blocking the walkway,” he said.
“It’s as if they were confused as to how they could improve the zone. Sadly, what they did just swapped unsuccessful for unsuccessful.”
The interior designer had more cutting commentary for Chantel and Wyatt, who finished last on 17.5 after the judges criticised both their kids’ room and barely changed living-room redo.
“I don’t know why Chantel and Wyatt bothered with their redo room at all. I don’t mind them defying the judges if they felt their room was great as is. If that’s the case, there’s no need to change a thing. All they did was rework the orientation and add in a bit more sofa. It didn’t do much to change the feel of the room,” he said.
“That said, I always enjoyed the location of their TV wall the most, so I have no issue with them doing their own thing and ignoring the opinions of others.”
The Block 2027 airs Sunday — Wednesday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
