The Block cheating
  • Fans are divided over The Block's latest cheating controversy involving House 4.
  • Viewers debate whether Courtney and Sev played strategically or crossed a line.
  • Some fans praise the pair's design choices and competitive approach.
  • Others question whether the team has received unfair treatment.

The fallout from The Block’s controversial wine cellar saga is showing no signs of slowing down, with fans still split over whether Courtney and Sev cleverly played the game or crossed a line.

During the latest episode, Jolene and Lisa once again questioned House 4 over their heavily discounted wine cellar, accusing the pair of benefiting from a deal that gave them an unfair advantage.

Courtney and Sev refused to back down.

“You can’t be mad at us for what he’s charging us— that’s not our problem,” Sev fired back, insisting the price they were quoted wasn’t something they could control.

The tense exchange was eventually put to bed with an awkward hug between Sev and Jolene, but viewers have continued debating the controversy online.

Fans are split over whether Courtney and Sev broke the spirit of the rules

A Reddit thread titled “The girls vs the world” quickly filled with passionate opinions from both sides of the debate.

Many fans defended Courtney and Sev, arguing the pair deserve their success because they’ve consistently delivered the strongest designs.

“They’ve only won because they’ve worked hard, have better design and figured out loopholes the other houses neglected to investigate,” one Reddit user wrote.

Another comment said viewers were overlooking the finer details the judges actually reward.

“The amount of design consideration they’ve implemented over the other teams is why they get the reaction that they do from the judges,” they wrote.

The fan pointed to everything from custom joinery and lighting design to accessibility features and bespoke finishes as examples of why House 4 continues to impress.

Others argued Courtney and Sev are simply playing The Block the way it was intended to be played.

“They came in with a plan, have been strategic, played within the rules, taken bold risks, and come out on top. It is a competition and that is how the game should be played,” they shared.

The same commenter didn’t hold back when discussing the other teams.

“H1 and H3 are so vindictive and bitter about this… H4 have put in bloody hard work, played the game, and I hope they are a runaway success.”

Not everyone is convinced

But plenty of viewers remained unconvinced, believing House 4 has benefited from favourable treatment throughout the season.

“The rules do change for them,” one viewer asserted.

Another claimed it wasn’t about the money itself, but how the rules had been interpreted.

“Whether they get extra money is immaterial. They manipulate their way around rules that other people are respecting,” the commenter wrote.

Some also argued the judges had been too generous, despite unfinished spaces.

“They get preferential scores despite having unfinished rooms,” they wrote.

One fan even claimed the controversy extends beyond online discussion.

“My mum is in her 60s, doesn’t use social media… she finds it suss the girls are winning. She says it’s rigged.”

Others landed somewhere in the middle, agreeing House 4 had exploited a loophole but believing the issue should now be put to rest.

“We all know what H4 did with the wine rack was naughty. They did the spin/loophole thing and got away with it,” one fan wrote.

The commenter added they were now more frustrated by the team’s ongoing budget problems than the wine cellar itself.

Not every fan landed squarely on one side.

Some admitted Courtney and Sev had found a loophole, but felt they shouldn’t continue being blamed for taking advantage of it.

“We all know what H4 did with the wine rack was naughty. They did the spin/loophole thing and got away with it,” one person wrote.

However, the same commenter believed the bigger issue now is the team’s financial situation.

“I just wish they’d make some decisions to resolve their budget issue instead of pushing it all onto their landscaper.”

With only the final weeks of the competition remaining, one thing is clear: whether viewers see Courtney and Sev as savvy strategists or rule-benders, they’re still the most hotly debated team on The Block this season.

The Block airs Sunday – Wednesday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
