In an interview with Chattr, Sam Stanton has taken aim at his TV husband, Chris Robinson for overreacting to his feedback on Married At First Sight (MAFS).
Speaking of the moment he confronted Chris about the post-MAFS plan he told the experts, the Adelaide groom says that Chris struggled to engage with the point he was making, instead taking everything as an attack on his character.
“He was pissed off at me saying he wasn’t an empath, which never even happened,” Sam explains. “I just said I wasn’t receiving empathy in that moment, you know? Chris, like he just latches onto things because he can’t argue the real point,” adding, “there’s no context or depth to his arguments.”
Sam adds that Chris also took his remark about Chris turning things around and “gaslighting” him as saying that Sam was accusing him of being a gaslighter by nature. “He doesn’t even go into what a gaslighter is, or why he isn’t one,” Sam says. “He’s just like, I’m not one.”

Sam says Chris didn’t see his point of view
Sam tells Chattr that while his initial confrontation with Chris was about the post-MAFS plan he shared with the experts, the problem quickly became more about Chris’ reaction to receiving feedback than the feedback itself.
“The [post-MAFS] comments stopped being the problem about 10 seconds after I brought it up with him on the couch. When he reacted like that, it was no longer about that,” Sam says. “It’s his entire reaction. It’s his defensiveness and lack of ability to see my side.”
Sam adds that his feedback really was the “smallest little issue” that could have been quickly resolved if Chris had taken a second to see his point of view. “Like, oh yeah, sorry, Sam. I really should have consulted with you first… like, it could have been that simple of a conversation.”
Instead, Sam recalls Chris going “completely off him” ever since he called him out his behaviour, creating a tense environment which Sam recalls as “just awful.”
Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 airs Sunday – Wednesday this week on Channel 9 and 9Now.
