Fans of Married At First Sight (MAFS) are calling for Danny Hewitt to leave the show, as they believe the 34-year-old is not being honest in his relationship with Bec Zacharia.
Bec memorably told Danny she loved him at a Commitment Ceremony about a week ago, to which the groom turned red with surprise. Since then, Danny’s seemingly been in damage-control mode, asking Bec to be his girlfriend and leaving a smattering of affectionate notes around their shared apartments.
“If you didn’t have any feelings for Bec you should have left ages ago,” said one fed-up fan on Reddit. “We heard what you’ve been up to, and that ‘Gentleman’ shtick you got going on is a ploy for after the show! If you had left earlier, we wouldn’t have had to witness Bec self-implode at the hands of Gia, and this text saga could have been avoided!” they said.
“He’s not being honest,” wrote another Redditor, with another stating, “Those scribbled Post-Its had me on the floor. Just make sad nachos,” referring to Danny’s blue notes, which included messages to Bec like “Enjoy a glass of Red” and “You are beautiful inside and out.”
“I feel Danny is just playing nice and going along with Bec so he can dip later on,” weighed in another fan. “He just wants to keep the peace to not ruin his [reputation] that can be twisted on TV and such.”
Over on Facebook, another commenter said: “I think there’s an element of avoidance… [Danny] always looks uncomfortable on the couch — fast eye blinking, red face and playing with his ring or beard. I can’t work him out…. I think he genuinely cares for Bec and they get along really well, but I doubt he is really into her. Sometimes I wonder whether it’s airtime for him. He is a hard nut to crack.”
A fellow Facebook commenter was much more straightforward about it all. “He is a pu**y. He is only there for exposure. He will dump her at the final ceremony.”
Are Bec and Danny from MAFS still together?
Bec took to Instagram Live on March 11 with former MAFS bride Awhina Rutene, during which she claimed she and Danny are still an item. During an informal Q&A, the bride said the two were still going strong, revealing they attended the filming of MAFS: After the Dinner Party just days before it aired on March 11.
“We are definitely together, you’ll see us, we flew to Sydney for the Stan show, but we both live in different states at this point in time,” the bride said.
But in a recent podcast episode of MAFS Funny, host Josh Fox says he believes Danny has no feelings for Bec, and is continuing to “string her along.” He speculates that he’s more focused on getting more Instagram followers like his stripper mate, Will Parfitt, and reports that Danny’s been using a burner account to DM female fans.
Reportedly, he messaged one woman, stating, “We can hang out at my hotel, though I know that sounds sleazy as f**k,” followed by a laughing emoji, and “If it’s dark, we can go somewhere very quiet but I’ve got to be careful,” followed by a laughing emoji and “I can wear a hat”… followed by laughing emoji.
He’s also reportedly been spotted on double dates with Filip and Stella, accompanied by a woman tradie. The source has apparently told Josh that “it’s the talk of the jobsite.”
So, we’re not 100% sure if Bec and Danny are still together. But the signs seem to point to no.
