After some encouragement from the Married at First Sight (MAFS) experts, Bec Zacharia confessed her love to Danny Hewitt at the Commitment Ceremony, admitting to Chattr that she’d actually been feeling it for some time before finally saying the words.
Bec and Danny were ostracised from the rest of the group at the Couples’ Retreat after Bec made a joke about Rachel and Steven’s sex life. However, she said that seeing Danny back her in that situation intensified her feelings for him.
“In the face of that adversity, I was already feeling like I loved him. Stella [Mickunaite] and I have had a conversation at the retreat about it, so she knew, and also Sammy Stanton and I had had a conversation about it.”
Bec pointed out that she doesn’t believe viewers have seen an accurate representation of their relationship on MAFS so far.
“In mine and Danny’s opinion, the relationship you’ve seen up until this retreat is not really reflective of what we were really like,” she explained.
“Our honeymoon was incredible. You guys saw half a day, in comparison to the other six and a half days we were there. And throughout this time, these two and a bit months that we were in this experiment, Danny and I were building such strong foundations with one another.
“And the retreat was the cherry on top for me, the protection, him taking me out of there, the incredible two days that we had outside of that retreat, when we were sitting there saying, Are we leaving together? We’ll just go back to Melbourne, to Danny’s place.”

Bec didn’t play on telling Danny she loved him at the MAFS Commitment Ceremony
The adorable (albeit slightly awkward) moment between Danny and Bec, which played out at the Commitment Ceremony, wasn’t actually meant to happen, as she wasn’t planning on revealing her real feelings.
“I definitely did not plan on telling him at the Commitment Ceremony at all. I did not plan that at all. I definitely would have waited a few weeks,” she said.
Bec added that while she knows she’ll probably receive backlash from viewers for dropping the L bomb, she doesn’t regret it.
“I know people are going to come back and go, ‘she’s a crazy person’ but they haven’t seen an accurate representation of that relationship. I knew that Danny didn’t feel that way, but at the same time, as you’ve seen this whole season, what you see is what you get, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
“It’s how I felt in the moment, and I don’t regret telling him that I love him, because that’s how I feel.”
Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 airs Monday – Thursday at 7:30pm this week on Channel 9 and 9Now.
