Emma caused chaos on Love Island Australia 2025 when she chose Kye for Hotel Amor, because he’d previously been busy rekindling things with his ex, Yana, in the villa.

However, in a podcast interview, the 26-year-old revealed that she was set on Kye before she’d even met him, and — as the show was prerecorded— she had no idea about Yana.

“Before we went in, we did get to see a photo of them. So I sort of preempted who I wanted to pick just by looks,” she told Eoghan McDermott on Officially Unpacked.

Emma explained that once she met the six male Islanders, she considered switching up and picking someone else.

“So on the dates, I actually did fancy Mick quite a bit, he did make me laugh, but he just didn’t give me enough.

“When I was standing next to him, before Sophie Monk came out again, he was giving me a bit more, and he was quite funny. And I sort of thought, ‘Oh, well, I’ve already decided on Kye, but now I sort of want to change my decision’. And then I thought, ‘No, you know, I’m just gonna stick with Kye, we’ve got similar hobbies, and I do find him really attractive.'”

She added that she had no idea that Kye had his ex in the villa before he told her at the pre-Hotel Amor mixer.

Did Kye tell Emma he wasn’t choosing to couple up with her?

As viewers will know, Kye and Emma wasted no time getting intimate with one another at Hotel Amor. They were shown making out in the pool, and fans were also treated to a scene of Emma fondling his bare bum in bed, while making a remark about his tan lines.

However, when the time came for Kye to make his choice of whether to couple with Emma or return single and pair up with Yana again, he chose the latter.

In the podcast interview, Emma revealed that Kye didn’t give her the heads up that he wasn’t choosing her, saying he just “vanished” and “ghosted her” the next day.

“So, in the morning, he didn’t tell me it wasn’t going to be me. So I was left that whole day kind of wondering what’s going on, [but] I could just tell by his body language, he was a bit off it.

“I think he woke up and sort of thought, Oh, what have I done? You know, the danger of this little treat, this snack in front of me, and I’ve taken the bait, and now I’ve f**ked up everything with Yana, but yeah, I think it was a very tough decision to be in, and the firepit was terrifying.”

When pushed for more details, Emma said he basically just left her hanging after leaving Hotel Amor.

“I mean, basically, yeah, he did go ‘sorry bye’, I think he was still trying to figure out what he wanted to do.”

Regardless of Kye’s questionable treatment of Emma, the lash technician said she has no hard feelings towards him.

“I can respect Kye’s decision, because I had no idea the situation and the links with him and Yana. So like, obviously, they’re exes, they had history before the show, and then they’re trying to rekindle things back on the show. And obviously, it was just very tempting for him, like we both were physically attracted to each other, but yeah, it wasn’t an easy situation for him.”

Love Island Australia 2025 airs Monday – Thursday on 9Now.
