Farmer Wants A Wife 2025 may be over, but Clarette Goodhead is still dealing with the aftermath. Due to a ‘villain’ edit, viewers turned on Clarette and Farmer Thomas Freeth, sending the FWAW contestant vicious hate messages and comments while the show was airing.
Just like Farmer Todd Melbourne supported ‘villain’ Daisy Lamb during Farmer Wants A Wife 2024, Thomas was there for Clarette while she navigated their new normal.
“Thomas’ support was amazing, he helped me so much, he helped me gain perspective and to keep grounded in what was real and what wasn’t,” Clarette tells Chattr. “The airing of the show was horrific. I’ve never received so much hate from people that don’t even know me.”
Due to some carefully edited sequences and pointed voice-overs, the Farmer Wants A Wife contestant was painted as “jealous”, “insecure”, and “needy”, when in reality, she was simply a woman falling in love in the most unorthodox way.
“I can understand why viewers felt the way that they did, if I was watching it and I didn’t know me, I would feel exactly the same. But I would never watch a show and then go online and talk negatively about someone I didn’t know. I didn’t realise people would care so much about a TV show thinking it’s all real and in live time, when it [was filmed] eight months ago,” she adds.
“My family and friends were also affected. They couldn’t understand why this was happening to me and why I was the scapegoat, when Thomas and I were so happy together.”

At this point, Clarette was the only Lady who had moved to be with the farmer at this point, and production knew this. If they wanted to sell a love story, Clarette and Thomas’ would be the obvious one.
“My friends and family were defending me, but I was upset that they felt the need to do that. I’ve never had to justify my character before, so to do it now felt so wrong, especially when it wasn’t my fault,” she says. “I then had to get up every morning and go to work and put on a brave face for the teenagers that I teach, knowing that staff, students, and parents were all watching it at home.”
Have Clarette and Thomas come out stronger after FWAW?
After going through a tough time together, Clarette and Thomas have been showing snippets of their life post Farmer Wants A Wife on social media. They’ve taken holidays, caught up with friends from the show, and been having date nights on the farm. It looks like they’re in it for the long haul.
Clarette calls Thomas her “main support person”, which is really sweet. This is what reclaiming the narrative looks like!
“I think we’ve both seen and the whole of Australia have seen that we’re not made to be in front of the cameras. Thomas is very uncomfortable wording things with the pressure of the cameras,” Clarette admits. “Our relationship has definitely strengthened, Tom is my main support person in my new home and we’ve gone through this unique situation that will bond us forever.
“We’ve relied on each other a lot throughout the whole process.”
It’s nice to see a wholesome Farmer Wants A Wife love story emerge out of the drama-filled season, even if it wasn’t portrayed that way.
