Big Brother delivered one of its most brutal snap evictions yet when Edward Doak was suddenly sent packing during a family letters segment, leaving the house, and viewers, stunned.
With housemates cut off from their families for four weeks, Big Brother gifted them a seemingly heartfelt moment: letters from loved ones. One by one, the housemates took turns reading the messages aloud, with emotions running high and tears flowing throughout the house. That is, until it was time for Ed’s letter.
What appeared to be a touching letter from his mum quickly took a devastating turn, with the housemate realising the letter wasn’t from home at all, it was Big Brother telling him he was evicted, and that he must leave the house immediately.
In a post eviction interview with Chattr, Ed revealed that he suspected his ‘family’ letter was bad news halfway through.
“You sort of get blindsided by a lot of the things Big Brother does. So you don’t know what’s coming next. But, look, I sort of gathered… I sort of picked up on it within the letter. Halfway through I was a little bit in my head, and I’m a very emotional person, so I would have been crying a lot more if it was my mum’s letter,” Ed told Chattr.
Ed admitted he simply rolled with it as the letter was read aloud, though the moment still managed to shock him.
“I thought this doesn’t sound like something my mum would write,’” he added.
Despite fans branding the twist even harsher than Vinnie’s Christmas carol eviction, Ed took it on the chin, calling it a ruthless, but very fitting, way to go out.
“That’s what we signed up for. We don’t know what’s coming next, we don’t know when we’re leaving, we don’t know what time and day we’re leaving, so you just got to be ready for anything,” Ed revealed to Chattr.
Fans are raging on social media following another brutal Big Brother eviction
After days of speculation that Ed had been sent home in a snap eviction on Friday, it was confirmed during last night’s live eviction episode that he had officially been dumped from the house.
“That was so brutal,” one viewer wrote, while another added, “Mentioning nieces and nephews when it wasn’t even a real letter from home was cruel.”
Many compared it to Vinnie’s shock eviction during the week when he was sent packing in the middle of the night, mid-Christmas carol, still in his festive outfit.
“That was even more brutal than Vinnie’s eviction,” one fan commented.
Would Ed have preferred to leave another way? Not at all.
“I think the way they did it is exactly how they wanted it to come out, it is what it is. I look back on it now and have a good laugh. It’s totally fine.” Ed told Chattr.
The Big Brother Australia 2025 finale airs on Monday, December 8 at 7:30pm on Channel 10 and 10Play.
