Australian Idol is back on our screens for another year with contestants from all over the country chasing their childhood dream of becoming a pop star! Among this year’s contestants is 17-year-old jukebox singer, John Standley, who’s ready to give it his all on this year’s stage.

Who is John and where is he from?
John Standley is a 17-year-old student originally from Bunbury, Western Australia, but he now lives in Adelaide with his family. His parents serve as mission leaders for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Adelaide, Australia, mission, and the family will be based there for three years, supporting missionaries and members across South Australia.
On Instagram, John — aka Johnny Jukebox — already has nearly 7,000 followers, sharing covers that showcase his impressive voice (and that number is only set to skyrocket now that he’s on Australian Idol!).
Truth be told, John is definitely one to watch!

What does music mean to John?
John has a deep love for 1950s and ’60s classics — it’s no wonder he earned Johnny Jukebox as a nickname! At just 17, he brings a youthful energy to these vintage hits, blending timeless inspiration with a modern twist. His performances are helping to introduce the songs that have filled homes for generations to a whole new audience, captivating the next generation of music lovers.
Does John have any musical experience?
John is not afraid of the spotlight; he performed the Australian Anthem at a national Basketball game on Australia Day, and he was also runner-up in Adelaide’s “Search for a Star” competition. He has also appeared on Channel 7’s Telethon, helping raise much-needed funds for children battling cancer. Not only that, but John also performed as a pre-act for the Australian Karen Carpenter tribute show.
What will the winner of Australia Idol win?
The winner will receive $100,000, a recording package with Hive Sound Studios, a songwriting camp with Sony Music Publishing, marketing support from The Annex, and VIP access to the ARIAs and TV WEEK Logie Awards.
