“I am my own hero”: Skye Wheatley on her incredible I’m a Celebrity 2024 win

"I genuinely surprised myself"

During the April 21 Grand Finale, Skye Wheatley was crowned Queen of the I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here Australia 2024 jungle, genuinely surprising herself in the process!

Viewers voted the 30-year-old into every type of trial imaginable including the infamous Viper Room, which she calmy aced, staying in the darkened coffin of snakes for 12 minutes.

Now, speaking to Chattr from the South African jungle the morning after her win, Skye admitted that she had no idea what she was capable of.

“I did not know that I could overcome those fears,” she said. “I overcame so many in the Jungle. I put a lot of pressure on myself, and to be able to show myself that I am my own hero, is the best!”

Speaking of the Viper Room, the mother-of-two admitted that after this particular achievement, she “didn’t even care what people thought of me”, after having walked into the Jungle knowing that people underestimated her.

“I feel like everyone always judges a book by their cover,” she said. “And I feel like I’m guilty of doing that all the time. So, it was really nice to be able to show what I am made of and what I’m worth. I even surprised myself. I genuinely surprised myself.”

Skye had three things that kept her going

From the disgusting Tucker Trials to being bitten by a snake and having things blown up in her face, Skye went through it all — even hilariously saying at one point: “We’re not in the Gold Coast anymore!”.

But, according to the former Big Brother Australia star, she needed to remain “strong”.

“I went through absolute trauma,” she said. “Everything triggered me but I just had to be strong for my boys and for myself and for my charity, so that was all playing on my mind.

“Every time I went through something traumatic, I was just like ‘My boys. Myself. My charity.’ I was like I have to be strong for all of these three reasons and that was enough to keep me going.”

What Skye Wheatley learned from I’m a Celebrity 2024

Overall, Skye learned a lot about herself in the Jungle and was incredibly “grateful” to be a part of the I’m a Celebrity series.

“There were so many lessons that I learned in the Jungle and I felt like it taught me so much,” she said. “I felt so grateful to be there. I just thought to myself, how many people get to experience this in their lifetime? Not everyone has this chance in their life to face their fears and I got to face my fears for the very first time, and it was exhilarating!

“It was the most exciting thing for me. For me to be able to overcome that was just such a massive achievement.”
