The Block 2026 viewers are questioning the judges’ scoring after Courtney and Sev’s unfinished room received a perfect 10, with many fans claiming the competition’s judging has become “completely inconsistent”.
Following this week’s room reveals, Reddit erupted with debate after one team was awarded a perfect score from two judges despite failing to complete every aspect of their space before tools down.
Many viewers argued that while the room itself was impressive, an unfinished renovation should automatically rule out a perfect score.
The Block fans call out the scoring this season
Multiple Reddit threads have asked punters for their thoughts on the scoring this year in the wake of last night’s ep.
“Should an unfinished room ever score a 10?” one thread reads.
“Genuinely curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on this after last night’s episode. Courtney and Sev’s room was absolutely beautiful, but should a room that’s unfinished or has poorly executed finishes really be receiving a near-perfect score of 29.5/30?”
It added: “Personally, I think a 10 should be reserved for a room that ticks ALL the boxes, including workmanship and completion. Surely those things should carry just as much weight as the overall design? Do you think an unfinished room should automatically be ruled out of receiving a 10, or is exceptional design enough to justify a perfect score?”
“No, but it happens every year,” one user replied. “It’s annoying. But also, the girls would have won anyway because theirs was the best, even without a painted door (which I didn’t see, only heard Lisa talking about but I assume must have been obvious?).
“Just a bit unfair they get an extra $20k for an unfinished room, but also I’m still convinced the show is using them to make sure at least one house sells and so they can say ‘see? The girls did it!’ So it was possible with reduced hours, skint budget and no head builders for each team.”
Another user pointed out that the standards appear to have dropped from past seasons.
“Even disregarding the unfinished rooms; previous seasons the contestants have been absolutely grilled for their washer/dryer being ground height,” they wrote. “The judges want the doors to open the correct way and for it to be standing height. By their own standards it wasn’t even a 10 — such a b***shit season.”
“Not finished is not finished so should be 9.5 max per judge,” wrote another viewer.
One person somewhat disagreed with the critique, saying that it wasn’t “unfinished” but imperfect.
“I wouldn’t go as far as to say the room was unfinished…. more it’s finished with an error,” they wrote.
“I think 10s have been given for small errors before, and overlooking a tiny bit of skirt could be seen as a small error. Darren’s score was predictable, because for many, many years he’s made it clear what his rubric is, and in his case giving anything more than 9.5 would be inconsistent with what he’s been saying for years. If he’s going to make 7.5 available to very incomplete rooms, he’d have to make a token ding here for a finishing error like that.”
They added: “The others aren’t as open and clear as to how much they weigh finish (or much of anything else), or even if they use anything other than vibes. If they’re more vibes, it’s a 10.”
There were also some pushback on the other Reddit board, with one person hitting back at the notion that the show always gives 10s even when the room is undeserving.
“It’s never been a requirement for it to be perfect, otherwise in defect week there would be a room with no blue tape,” they pointed out. “This has literally never happened in the history of the show, so it seems like you’re misunderstanding what the scoring requirements are.”
With that said, there were also people describing the scoring as “rigged” and “ridiculous”, so it seems to be a heavy debate this year!
