Chantel and Wyatt’s first week on The Block went from bad to worse on Sunday night, with the Gold Coast couple declaring they’re ready to leave the competition.
The drama began when Foreman Dan caught one of Chantel and Wyatt’s tradespeople helping with the team’s painting — a major breach of The Block rules, which require contestants to do the painting themselves.
Chantel insisted it was an innocent mistake. She said she wasn’t aware of the rule and the tradie had barely started, but some rival teams claimed they had overheard the couple discussing the plan beforehand. The issue sparked Tayla to initiate two tense body corporate meetings without a clear resolution.
Wyatt was left fuming over his ‘integrity’ being questioned by his competitor, Tayla.
Things unravelled further at the season’s first room reveal. Judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox were unimpressed with most elements of Chantel and Wyatt’s guest bedroom, leaving them in fourth place with 20 points out of 30.
However, the biggest shock came when they discovered they had dramatically blown their room budget. Given $8,966 to complete the space, they had instead spent around $20,700 — almost $12,000 over budget.
This revelation came as a shock to Chantel and Wyatt, who furiously disagreed with the price estimate. Overwhelmed by their mounting problems, Chantel and Wyatt spoke in the car, revealing they wanted to quit the show. Previews then disclosed that they subsequently failed to show up at either the Block site or the contestants’ sharehouse, setting up a tense confrontation with host, Scott Cam.
So umm, does this team quit The Block before they’ve barely begun? Thankfully, the start of the season left a huge spoiler that confirms Chantel and Wyatt’s fate.
Do Chantel and Wyatt leave The Block?
Despite their threats, all the evidence suggests that Chantel and Wyatt do not exit The Block.
In season teasers, there are multiple moments that haven’t aired yet that feature the couple. In particular, a hilarious moment is set to air where Wyatt knocks out a front tooth.
“Of course they return,” an eagle-eyed viewer wrote on Reddit. “Remember he loses the tooth in two weeks’ time. They already spoiled the drama.” As another claimed, “They return.”
However, not everyone believes the team should come back, as many have noted that Wyatt’s over-the-top response is worrying. “Someone with that much anger, going out of his way to intimidate the oldest and smallest bloke on The Block and then what looks like Scott [Cam] and the producers has no right to be on TV,” another added.
The Block airs on Sundays at 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
