Stranded on Honeymoon Island Episode 9 saw Mike Dawes make the bold decision to pull a flare, giving his partner Amy Dickson a fresh chance at love with a new arrival.
While Amy and Mike butted heads at the beginning of the season, they built up a strong friendship over their time on the remote Fijian island together.
Mike told Chattr when he was given the option to pull the flare, which meant a new match would be bought in for Amy, he was primarily thinking about what was best for her.
“I [thought I] might as well just give her what she wants, so that at least one of us can find something out of this. It was really only for her,” Mike told Chattr of his decision.
“I was a bit sad,” he continued. “The whole purpose was to look for love, and if one of us gets the opportunity to give the other one [that], I would have hoped, if it were vice versa, she would have done the same thing.

However, Mike said that while it was his decision to leave the island, he wished that things had turned out differently at the time.
“Amy and I have a really funny relationship. It’s like a love-hate relationship. And it started off, obviously, pretty hardcore, and it grew into a much more respectful relationship. There were lots of moments where I actually thought, ‘Oh, man, maybe there is something there.'”
“I was upset [when I pulled the flare],” he continued. “As I was going through the whole process of this crazy experience, I was like, ‘Man, what a cool kickstart of life, if you found the one’. And so when I had a choice to make, I was disappointed that I didn’t get to find the person that I was meant to be with, but I was proud of myself that I was like, ‘You know what, if I can’t find what I’m looking for, I can have the opportunity to give love to somebody else’. It’s a pretty cool feeling in itself.”
Unfortunately for him, Mike drew the short straw, as he was sent packing without being offered a replacement partner on the island.
“When I was there and I did it, I was gutted. It was like, ‘Oh man, I just went through this amazing experience, and I didn’t get anything out of it in the end.’ That was a little disheartening. I would’ve loved the opportunity to have someone else out there — someone I could’ve tried to finish it off with.”

Stranded on Honeymoon Island’s Mike has a new girlfriend
It’s been nearly two years since the Stranded on Honeymoon Island cast filmed the show, and Mike has found love! He told Chattr he’s been in a relationship for about three months, after he and his now-girlfriend ended up sharing a house before things turned romantic.
The reality star revealed that he and his girlfriend, who is a private person and doesn’t want to be named, have said ‘I love you’ “many, many times.”
“I’ve never had a woman that has put me in my place so softly, and makes me want to be a better man every day,” he said.
“Every single time we see each other, we have a childhood-like banter and that childhood-like love, but it comes with a very big spiritual side, because she’s like, she does a lot of energy work.”
“I reckon I’ve really come into my own lately — I’m more driven and motivated across the board: work, relationships, friends, family, all of it. Over the past three months, I’ve probably been the most focused I’ve ever been in my life,” he added.

Are Stranded on Honeymoon Island’s Mike and Amy still friends?
When Mike told Amy that he’d pulled the flare so that she could have a chance at finding her best match, she was extremely grateful. So, are they still friends now?
Mike said he and Amy were friendly post-show, but lost touch shortly after. However, they spoke on the phone last week and had a great chat.
“About a week ago, I texted her — it had been a long time, over a year. I said, ‘Hey, look, I might not get the opportunity to see you, but I just want to thank you for giving me the chance to learn so much about myself, to grow and to share such a cool moment with someone like you.’ Something along those lines.
“She [then] called me and we had a big chat. She said, ‘I still wouldn’t want anyone else but you to have shared the experience with. I learned heaps about myself.’ I said, ‘I learned heaps about myself too.’ It was a really nice chat, and actually really cool to hear how she felt watching it back. I have nothing but love for her.”
Aw, we love a happy ending!
