The meat master is old news, now it's all about the 'chicken girls'.

MKR 2025 Lol Lil Chicken

My Kitchen Rules (MKR) 2025 contestants Lol and Lil started off as fan-favourites, but as the competition heated up, they started to receive an onslaught of negative hate online. One particular criticism from both fans and fellow competitors? The pair cook chicken too often, and it’s too simple for a competition like MKR.

Although grand finalists Justin and Will have cooked curry a fair few times, they haven’t received as much backlash.

Lil jokes they’re the “chicken girls”, but doesn’t see anything wrong with their decision to cook dishes such as rotisserie chicken gyros, hearty chicken and leek pot pie and fried chicken bao buns. “What’s wrong with chicken? Everyone loves chicken!” Lil exclaims.

“It’s not like we cook chicken the same way every time. So I think we were showcasing different ways that you can cook a certain meat, and we chose chicken. I guess you can call us the chicken girls.”

Lol also tells Chattr that chicken isn’t “easy” by any means; in fact, it takes skill to get it right.

“Chicken can be overcooked really easily and also undercooked, as we saw in some parts. Yeah, it’s chicken, but it’s not easy. There’s a lot you can do with chicken as well. It’s so diverse, you can do so much with it,” Lol says.

So why did Lol and Lil focus so heavily on chicken? If Michael is the meat master, are they the chicken masters?

“I just think chicken is one of the best meats to cook,” Lol says. “You can add so many flavours to it, so why not do that? But also, we did dabble in a few other meats too.”

Did Lol and Lil think they could win MKR?

Lol and Lil recently lost the semi-final to Maria and Bailey, narrowly missing out on a spot in the grand final against Justin and Will.

Lil tells us the pair thought they had a slim chance of winning MKR against Justin and Will had they made it to the grand final, but knew it wouldn’t be easy.

“We thought we’d give it a go, like going up against Justin and Will, [they are] huge contenders. Look, there was a possibility that the judges could see our progression throughout the whole competition, and if we did make it to the final, that they could see how hard we worked to get there,” Lil explains.

“But also, we knew if we made it into the grand final it was gonna be like, the most extreme, tough battle we’ve ever done.”

The MKR grand final will air on Sunday, November 16 on Channel 7 and 7plus.
