There’s no Married At First Sight (MAFS) Dinner Party without some kind of incident, and tonight it came in the form of a tense clash between the show’s only remaining intruder couple, Sam Stanton and Chris Robinson.

It all kicked off in the car on the way to the Dinner Party, where after a long stretch of silence, Sam reveals to Chris that he’s planning to bring up their disagreement — about Sam feeling shut down and unheard at the Dinner Party.

“Just a heads up,” Sam began, “I’m not super happy with how things ended last week, and the only reason I haven’t spoken about it is that I didn’t feel like I was getting through to you just by myself. And I feel like I need some people around to give us both an outside perspective on the situation,” he said to a visibly bamboozled Chris.

“I was fuming,” Chris said to producers about the situation, “because my husband and my partner has just dropped a bombshell on me five minutes before entering a social gathering,” adding, “I’ve never had someone do this to me.”

Sam explains why he brought up the fight at the Dinner Party

In an interview with Chattr, Sam says that bringing up the fight at the Dinner Party wasn’t ideal, but the best option available to him in the context of the show. He said he wanted to protect himself from having another fight with Chris, and wanted to get some outside feedback.

“It wasn’t to throw Chris under the bus at all,” Sam says, adding that his intention was to get some outside feedback on the couple’s communication style — in particular, from the experts, who he knew would be watching.

“To be honest, I didn’t really care what happened at the Dinner Party,” Sam admits. “I was talking to the experts. So… I’m talking to the table, but I know the experts are listening, and I know they’re going to absorb this information, and see how Chris is reacting to me — see how I’m reacting to him, and then obviously give us feedback based on how we’re communicating to each other.”

“I think that was my main goal,” Sam continues. “It wasn’t to throw Chris under the bus at all. It wasn’t to sabotage him… all these things he thought I was doing. It was just to get [us to] move forward, because I couldn’t do it with just the two of us.”

So, there you have it. Sam says he was trying to make the best of a bad situation by making sure the couple would get some feedback from the experts. What do we think, did our Adelaide groom go about things the right way?

Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 airs Sunday – Wednesday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
