In an interview with Chattr, controversial Married At First Sight (MAFS) bride Bec Zacharia revealed that she’s received daily death threats during her time on the show, commenting that the blowback from fans has been “a lot worse” than she expected.

“Every day I have people telling me how ugly I am, that I’m disgusting, that I’m a c*nt, that I’m I belong in the gutter… that I should jump off a bridge,” the bride reveals. “[That] If I’m so insecure, why don’t I just kill myself? Like every single day I’m getting these messages.”

Bec says that she knows she’s not “everyone’s cup of tea”, and to some extent signed up for the show knowing that she’d be copping backlash. “You either love me, or you hate me, and to be honest with you, I don’t care either way, because I know who I am as a person,” she says.

“But these people going on and on and on online., [saying] ‘she’s a bully, she’s a mean girl’, but in the same breath, you’re writing me messages telling me to jump off a bridge and telling me how ugly I am. You’re just as bad as me.”

Bec responds to MAFS fans who send her death threats

Bec has urged fans to understand that everything you see on Married At First Sight (MAFS) is exaggerated to the umpteenth degree. “You know, you have to understand that you’re watching a TV show, and it’s amplified,” she tells Chattr.

“I take full responsibility for the fact that I’ve chosen to go on this, but at the same time, I’m a human being, and I’m constantly growing and constantly learning and constantly evolving,” she says, adding she’s even changed a lot since filming the show.

“You know, there should be a little bit of grace for all of us on this show, because we put our lives out there: the good, the bad and the ugly, and at least we’re there for your entertainment. I mean, the least you could do is not tell me to go kill myself.”

Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 airs Sunday – Wednesday this week on Channel 9 and 9Now.
