Fans were gutted after Barry Williams was sent home on Monday’s episode of I’m a Celebrity Australia 2026, and he appeared equally as upset by the outcome when he lost the tug-boat challenge.

In a post-elimination interview with Chattr, Barry explained he couldn’t get his head around the fact that he actually had to leave the jungle for good.

“I was so shocked that I was leaving, I was in denial,” he explained.

“I didn’t believe it. I thought something had gone wrong. I wanted to do another take, reset the cameras, and we’ll start again, and this time I’ll win,” he joked.

“I was genuinely shocked, surprised, because at no time ever did I think that I would not be coming into the final stages of this thing, I thought for sure it was just destined to be.

Barry added that he wholeheartedly enjoyed his time on I’m a Celebrity, which is why he was so disappointed over his elimination.

“I liked it. I liked the challenge. I liked the competition of it. I enjoyed the people, and I wanted to extend it. I was grateful,” he explained. “I went as far as I could, because everything would have been a bit repetitive. It just would have gotten more competitive. So I do feel that I got the full experience, but I liked it, and it was just cool to be doing.”

Barry believes he would have avoided elimination if it were up to a public vote

The Brady Bunch star added that while he has no hard feelings over his elimination, he does think he would have stuck around longer if it were up to a public vote.

“It’s a competition, it’s a game, and it goes the way that it goes, no matter what,” he said. “I think I would have [lasted longer], I certainly hope so. But, you know, that wasn’t to be.

“And I think the eliminations that we’ve seen so far are really kind of 50/50, they’re pretty, pretty equal. They don’t require as much physical stamina as you know other things, and so I think that’s pretty fair.”

I’m a Celebrity viewers overwhelmingly agreed with Barry that he would have lasted longer if the public had a say, with many sharing their disappointment over his elimination online.

“Not letting the public choose really sucks. Barry would still be in the jungle,” one person wrote. Another penned: “If it were us voting he would have been there to the end, he was a favourite.”

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here airs Sunday to Wednesday on Channel 10 and 10Play.
