The Golden Bachelor’s hometown visits took a meaningful turn when Sunny’s daughter Chloe asked Bear if he was a feminist, and the marketing professional explained why his answer was so important to her.

Chloe told Chattr that Bear’s response would reveal a lot about how he might treat her mum — something that’s crucial for any woman, but especially for Sunny, given her background.

“It was important for me to check if Bear was a feminist because my mum is such a strong, independent woman. She’s financially independent, super confident, and takes up a lot of space (in the best way possible), which can sometimes intimidate people who aren’t used to women like that. She deserves someone who not only respects that, but actively celebrates it,” she said.

“She’s also a Korean woman living in Australia, so she also deals with racism and the kinds of everyday biases that come with that. So she needs to be with someone who’s actually aware of racism and sexism, and who’s willing to stand beside her through that.”

Although Bear initially said he wasn’t a feminist, he later clarified that he hadn’t realised the term refers to equality between the sexes. While Chloe let his original answer slide, she told Chattr that she wasn’t sure if he was right for her mum after the home town visits.

“I had really mixed feelings about Bear when I first met him. He came across as super charming, kind, and grounded… honestly, almost too good to be true,” she explained.

“And unfortunately, with men, when they seem too good to be true, they usually are. I couldn’t help but be a little suspicious. Then, when he said no to my question about being a feminist, I was honestly shocked.

“I honestly wasn’t sure if they were a good match. I was a bit worried that he was too quiet and reserved for my mum, who is the total opposite: outgoing, loud, and full of energy. But after watching the show and seeing their dynamic on screen, I actually think they complement each other really well. It feels like they balance each other out in a really nice way. Her energy brings him out of his shell, and his calmness grounds her.”

Why Chloe thought Sunny was more invested than Golden Bachelor Bear

After Chloe and her sister Penny spoke with Bear privately about his feelings for Sunny, they told their mum they believed she was more invested than he was. Throughout the season, we’ve seen Sunny emerge as a clear frontrunner for Bear’s heart, so what made her daughters come to the conclusion that her feelings weren’t reciprocated?

Chloe explained to Chattr that her and Penny’s doubt was rooted in the fact that there were still other women in the mix.

“Bear mentioned he had a really hard decision to make,” she said. “As her daughter, it’s hard to hear that – of course, you want the man she likes to just say, ‘Of course, it’s only your mum for me.’ I understand it’s a strange and unique situation for him, but it’s hard not to worry that her heart might get broken.”

She added that seeing how deeply her mum had fallen for Bear made her even more worried about the possibility of her getting hurt.

“I’d never seen my mum so giddy over a man before. So it was heartwarming to see, but also made me a bit protective. She was clearly excited and wearing her heart on her sleeve, so I couldn’t help but worry she was more invested than he was.”

The Golden Bachelor airs on Sundays and Mondays on Channel 9 and 9Now.
