If you’ve been wondering what Jarrad Wrigley has been up to lately, the 23-year-old Queenslander from last year’s season of Farmer Wants A Wife, then we’ve got you: Farmer Jarrad has just been crowned the Toyota Star Maker at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Speaking to the New England Times, Jarrad describes bagging the award as a “wild” experience. “I seriously believe that holding the title of Toyota Star Maker is just the most prestigious achievement that you can gain in country music, but potentially the whole Australian music industry, and to be crowned champion for that is just unbelievable,” he says.
He also shouted out the fans who got to know him through last year’s season of Farmer Wants A Wife. “Whether you know me as Farmer Jarrad or Jarrad Wrigley, if I can make a difference in people’s lives then it doesn’t really bother me how you know me.”
Farmer Jarrad’s bandmates previously defended him from claims he did the show for the “wrong reasons”
You may recall when nine months ago, rumours swirled that the then 21-year-old Jarrad was only on Farmer Wants A Wife to further his music career, to which his bandmates defended him in a statement to Chattr.
Jarrad’s band, The Filthy Animals, told Chattr that Jarrad is a good guy and that he “definitely lives and works on a farm”.
“We can’t speak for Jarrad other than to say, working with him, we’ve found him to be respectful, reliable and a damn fine talent we are proud to have in our band. His vocals add a different flavour to our songs which we love!” the band remarked.
Of the videos of Jarad playing as part of the band that were making the rounds at the time, they added: “It’s The Filthy Animals [who] have been sharing these music videos not Jarrad…we don’t want him tarnished with a tag for only being on the show for his music career because of anything we’ve done to promote him as part of our band …He’s a good guy and we love working with him.”
Sadly, word has it that he and Chloe, who met on the show, are no longer together.
Farmer Wants A Wife returns to Channel Seven and 7Plus in 2026. Stream the show on 7Plus.
