Danny really went to bat for his wife last night, didn’t he? On the first night of the Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 Couples Retreat, the 34-year-old seemed to defend Bec all guns blazing, after Rachel reacted strongly to Bec’s crude “finger-banging” comment.
But Combined Communication Specialist and Body Language Expert Scott Taylor has studied Danny’s nonverbal behaviour, and reckons that Danny was acting in a way that didn’t align with his true feelings.
Having observed Danny’s body language before Bec made her speech, Scott commented on Instagram that Danny had an idea of what Bec was going to say in her speech, and that he was already showing “signs of discomfort”, including “facial tension” and “tapping with his hands”.
Scott also observed that later in the episode, when Bec grabbed Danny for a chat after walking out on Girls’ Night, Danny “could not have leaned any more away from her on the lounge,” adding that he appeared “closed off” and “not supportive at all”.
And while Danny made comments to the camera about Rachel needing to “grow up”, the pro reckons that he displayed nonverbal actions, such as rapid blinking, to suggest that he didn’t believe what he was saying.
So, while Danny spends much of the time trying to sound supportive of Bec, his nonverbal behaviour strongly suggest otherwise.
Expert says Bec hides behind Danny to solve problems
The body language pro noticed that Bec tends to rely on Danny to problem solve, which may be why Danny felt he had to support her. For example, as soon as Rachel expressed discomfort with Bec’s “finger-banging” comments, Scott notes that she immediately loops Danny into the conversation, beginning her statements with “me and my husband,” which Scott describes as a “common Bec tactic.”
“That was when she realised she’d stuffed up,” Scott says. “Bec does that. She tries to bring attention to Danny, tries to bring other people in her continual mentioning of Danny to try and lessen focus on herself after she started… the whole thing.”
This perhaps explains why Bec retrieved Danny from Boys’ Night and decided to stage a couple-on-couple meeting, about which Scott said: “You saw, as soon as there’s any feedback to Bec, she turns to Danny straight away.”
Scott Taylor is hosting an event where he’ll provide insights into how to read microexpressions and body language. If you’re interested, you can buy tickets here.
Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 airs Sunday – Wednesday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
