With the total number of people tuning into Australian Survivor year on year, fans are concerned that the reality series will be axed from Channel 10’s schedule.
The premiere episode of Australian Survivor Redemption was down significantly, at 64,000 overnight viewers, compared to last year’s 527,000 premiere. The trend has continued for the first three episodes, dropping to 412,000 in episode two and 365,000 in episode three.
Of course, Australian Survivor airs opposite ratings juggernaut Married at First Sight (MAFS), which has seen its viewership increase this year, likely contributing to the decline.
The figures have sparked worry among Australian Survivor fans who are concerned that the drop in audience will result in Channel 10 axing the series altogether.
Viewers worry Australian Survivor will be cancelled
After one user posted a Reddit thread expressing concern about the future of Australian Survivor, other fans chimed in to share their hopes that the long-running series won’t be cancelled.
“After the third night’s ratings just being released, can’t see much hope for and further seasons for a couple of years,” one person wrote. Another added: “Please don’t let it go! I didn’t realise the figures were that bad. Thought it was pretty popular”.
Another said that they think Channel 10 should consider airing it at a different time than MAFS.
“You’re not going to win, you’re cannibalising your own audience and, more importantly, the word of mouth exposure you’d get from “did you see that challenge/tribal last night?” Conversations because a large chunk of your audience is watching via catch-up PRECISELY so they’re not left out of the MAFS chat at the office the next day,” they wrote.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Australian Survivor fans, with another person claiming that there are whispers that future seasons are still on the cards.
“I heard production is looking for new locations to film future seasons,” they wrote.
So if you’re an Australian Survivor fan, now might be a good time to keep tuning in.
