Kyle Sandilands has given an update on the life-threatening brain aneurysms he was diagnosed with last year, ahead of the new season of Australian Idol, which premieres on February 2.

Kyle, who’s returning as a judge on the popular reality show, revealed that he’s had two six-monthly checks since his diagnosis last year, and the aneurysms haven’t grown.

“Which is good – they re-looked at all those scans and said it’s good,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “It’s good because when they first found it, they weren’t sure whether I had it for 30 years or 30 days.”

“One of them is very hard to get to in the head, so the chance of having complications is greater than just doing nothing, but we are monitoring the size at the moment, and the one in the chest is not operable yet.

Kyle explained that he has multiple aneurysms and said some of the smaller ones have been problematic.

“It’s not small, and smaller ones than the one that I’ve got have bled out and had problems, but it’s not really the s**t we need to get in there right now, so I plough on.”

How Kyle changed her lifestyle after his aneurysm diagnosis

Kyle told the publication that after he was diagnosed with the aneurysms in 2025, he actively made changes to make his lifestyle healthier.

“I had to stop carrying on,” he said. “You know, with all the partying.

“I had to start sleeping properly because I obviously thrashed myself over the years, but it’s good now because I’ve found other things.”

The Australia Idol judge explained that one of those changes includes spending a lot of time with his 3-year-old son, Otto, playing with toy cars.

“Tegan [Kynaston] has tried to ban me from buying any more Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars and I was like, ‘Listen – I love them,’ he says. “I had hundreds of them.

“He loves them. He wants them. He and I play with them on the floor, we have little fantasy set situations and everything.

Australian Idol 2026 premieres on February 2 on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
