Katy Perry is reportedly being paid a seven figure sum for the AFL Grand Final

We're crying into our empty wallets.

Katy Perry is performing at the 2024 AFL Grand Final, and she’s reportedly being paid a very tidy sum for her five-song performance.

The Herald Sun has reported that Katy will receive a whopping $5 million for her performance, which equates to a cool million per song. Not bad for a few minutes on stage!

The hefty payday contrasts starkly with the amount performers are paid for the iconic half-time performance at America’s Super Bowl.

“We do not pay the artists. We cover expenses and production costs,” NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter told Forbes back in 2016. Ouch!

Who will Katy Perry perform with at the 2024 AFL Grand Final?

Katy has confirmed that she won’t perform alone at the iconic sporting event. During an appearance on Sunrise, she teased a collaboration with another female artist.

“There’s going to be a surprise performance of a favourite Australian artist that I look up to,” she said.

“She will be singing a little bit with me, and I’ll be singing a little bit with her.

“I’ve been sworn to secrecy, locked up, chains — all of it.”

The reference to chains has fans speculating that Katy was teasing Tina Arena, who sings the 90’s banger Chains, as the special guest.

On top of that, Katy revealed to Sunrise that the guest was a Scorpio — which is Tina’s star sign.

And, just as we suspected, Daily Mail Australia confirmed that Tina will be performing at the MCG with Katy.

Cody Simpson will also take the stage before the game to sing the Australian national anthem.

When was Katy Perry’s AFL performance announced?

Katy officially announced that she would perform at the AFL grand final in July.

‘I’m so excited to be back in Australia and back at the mighty MCG to perform in front of 100,000 of the best and loudest fans in the world at the @telstra Pre-Game Entertainment for the 2024 Toyota @AFL Grand Final. See you in September,” she wrote in a Facebook announcement at the time.

Her announcement was met with mixed reactions — some fans were delighted that the certified Platinum artist was coming down under.

However, some others have questioned why AFL bought in an international act when Australia already has so many incredible homegrown artists.

Wonder how much Tina is getting paid?
