Interview: Ben and Jared’s “competitive” relo isn’t the only reason they have beef on Below Deck

"I wouldn't say it was the friendliest of relationships"

Season 11 of Below Deck is already underway and there’s some serious tension between Bosun Jared Woodin and Aussie Lead Deckhand Ben Willoughby.

Well, apart from their hugely different personalities, it seems jumping on board the St David once again meant that Ben was taking a step down after working as a Bosun in between seasons.

“Going into the season after Season 10 and all the heartbreak with Camille [Lamb] and all that drama, I’d worked as a Bosun,” he said, speaking on Mediaweek and Chattr’s The Entertainment Hotline Podcast.

And according to the 27-year-old, this prompted him to start “judging” Jared on “everything that he did.”

“I wouldn’t say it was the friendliest of relationships with Jared from the get-go,” he said. “It was more of a competitive relationship.”

Even though they butted heads on numerous occasions, Ben revealed that he actually wanted to help Jared because there was a new Captain onboard — Captain Kerry Titheridge.

“I knew that Kerry would come in guns blazing because he’s a new Captain — on with a new crew, on a new boat, that he has no idea who anybody is and how people gel together,” he said. “So I think he was definitely in the hot seat and I wanted him to succeed as well as anybody else.

“But as you’ll see, Jared has certain ways of doing things, and maybe Kerry just doesn’t agree with those.”
