Narrowly missing the finale, Tully Smyth almost got the full The Traitors Australia experience as she was savagely murdered on the reality show after starting alliances with both Traitors, Kirby Bentley and Rhys Nicholson.
The Big Brother all-star made it to the top six on The Traitors before being murdered on Wednesday’s episode. Despite Rhys trying to keep Tully, Kirby was set on murdering her ally, saying that no one would suspect her of being a Traitor in the endgame — which made her too dangerous to keep around.
Kirby wanted to keep Krissy Marsh instead, as she removed some heat from them. “Josh still thinks her [as a Traitor], so that’s another angle,” Kirby told Rhys.
Eventually, Rhys had to concede. “I’m pro Tully going, if that’s what you feel,” Rhys said to Kirby. But in a confessional, they expressed more doubt over the decision. “After saying a couple times ‘We need to keep Tully’, I had to go along with my boss,” Rhys said.
Tully wasn’t overly surprised the Traitors decided her time had come. “I never had a single finger pointed at me, I never had my name written down — that is an accomplishment,” Tully reflected upon reading her murder letter.
In an exclusive interview with Chattr, Tully spilled all sorts of tea about Kirby and her time on The Traitors Australia.

Tully admits she understood Kirby’s decision, revealing she even believed that the AFLW player knew that Tully had long suspected she was a Traitor. “She knew that if I turned around and threw her name out, then she was done for,” Tully said. “I do have a feeling. I haven’t actually asked her this, but I do have a feeling that she knew that I knew that she was a Traitor.”
She went on to share an unaired moment when Tully realised that Kirby was a Traitor. “There was one moment we were sitting on the leather couch in front of the fire, and she asked me a question. She tried to make it really blasé, she does that a lot, she does it with other people as well,” Tully said.
“But she said, ‘Oh, do you reckon if Alex [Nation] had tried to seduce you? Do you reckon you would have been seduced? Like, would you have gone for that?’. I remember writing in my journal, I was like, that was so suss. You’re clearly figuring out whether you could seduce me — that’s how I read it anyway.”
Tully admits that she’s surprised Kirby hasn’t been banished as she reckons a lot of the Faithfuls had been suspecting her the whole time. “We were suss on Kirby from day one. How she’s still playing the game, I have no idea. I think what it boils down to is that I’ve watched her play Survivor twice, and she plays an aggressive… she makes the rules, she makes the calls, she tells you who to vote for,” Tully said.
“To watch her [on The Traitors] be all like, ‘Oh, guys, what’s the plan for tonight? What should we do? I’ll go with whatever you think, mate.’ That’s not how you play these games. She was playing a very different game to her Survivor game, and that to me was suss,” she continued.
“I think it’s a testament to her gameplay that we were all suss. There’s all this evidence, and yet she’s in the finale. Like, how?”
So are Tully and Kirby BFFs again after her untimely murder? The Big Brother star said that Kirby made amends after filming ended with a hilarious gesture. “The minute Kirby landed back in Melbourne, she came to my house the same night she landed with some flowers, which had this card on them, and it says: ‘Sorry, I betraitored you.'”
That said, Tully stated she was surprised to learn how the turret deliberation went down between Rhys and Kirby. “Rhys is trying to keep me. That was a shock. And I haven’t seen Kirby yet, but I’m seeing her tonight, and you best believe I have some questions for her. You assume that it’s your mate that’s defending you,” Tully said.
“But now that I see that clip, maybe Rhys is closer [to me]. Maybe Rhys is my friend and Kirby isn’t.”
The finale of The Traitors Australia airs on Wednesday at 7:30pm on Network 10 and 10Play.
