The Traitors Australia 2026 star Rhys Nicholson has shared a pointed message for viewers following last week’s finale, reminding fans that reality TV contestants can’t actually be “robbed” of a win.
Taking to Instagram, Rhys addressed the online reaction to both The Traitors and another competition series they were involved in, saying the disappointment some fans felt over the winners was simply part of what makes reality television entertaining.
“Hello there,” Rhys began.
“In what is hopefully a helpful reminder for fans of both competition reality programs I had a part in with finales last week, it is in fact not possible to be ‘robbed’.”
The comedian acknowledged that audiences don’t always get the outcome they’re hoping for, but argued that’s exactly why people keep tuning in.
“Sure, the person you would have perhaps liked to have won didn’t, but that is why it’s fun to watch these shows,” they wrote.
Rhys went on to encourage viewers to embrace the unpredictability of competition television, adding that the final winner is simply the result that happened.
“Why not try wading into the warm waters of being entertained,” they continued.
“From where I’m sitting, exactly what happened is how it had to happen because that’s what happened. Yes?”
ICYMI: Rhys lost out on the final prize in last week’s finale, with original Traitor Kirby Bentley claiming victory. By making it to the end undetected, she secured the full $200,600 prize, eliminating fellow Traitor Rhys, before sending Faithfuls Krissy Marsh and Keira Maguire home in the final stages of the competition.
In Rhys’ post, they also acknowledged the hard work that goes into making reality TV and praised the winners following the backlash.
“We all work very hard to make these things for you, and not in spite of you,” they wrote.
“Congratulations to the winners. You very, very much deserve it.”
Are Kirby and Rhys still friends after The Traitors 2026?
During Rhys’ final moments on the show, they called out Kirby for writing their name down at the previous Round Table, which Rhys believed left them as a ‘sitting duck’ for banishment.
“It was an uncomfortable conversation in the moment, and I was exhausted. I was shattered, and I adore Rhys, I was connected [to them]. I still wanted to play the game with Rhys, but I was conflicted in choosing self-preservation,” Kirby told Chattr.
She went on to reveal where she stands with Rhys after the bitter finale.
“We sat and we watched it together, and they’re like, ‘Ah, you were actually working with me’, and I was like, ‘Oh, I was trying!’,” she recalled.
“But I also respect that Rhys was firm on me because I was using them as a scapegoat if I needed it, and they knew that and they called it out.”
While many viewers had their own favourites heading into The Traitors finale, Rhys’ social media post serves as a reminder that surprise outcomes are all part of the reality TV experience, and that passionate fan reactions are often a sign that the show has done exactly what it set out to do: keep audiences guessing until the very end.
