Cosima DeVito was the latest Faithful to be eliminated from The Traitors Australia, continuing a perfect run for Traitors Alvin, Kirby and Alex, who have all managed to evade elimination three episodes into the season. And, Cosima’s elimination came somewhat out of the blue, after Luke Packham started campaigning against her at the round table.
In an exclusive interview with Chattr, Cosima said that she was shocked to find out that it wasn’t a strategy implemented by the Traitors, but the twins, Luke and Josh, genuinely wanted her gone.
“I honestly thought that it was the Traitors that had instigated my removal, and that the Faithfuls were just playing into their hands the entire night from not picking Cam to booting me out. I was blindsided by the twins,” she said.
What started as the Packham twins’ idea to gun for Cosima quickly turned into a group thing, and she received 14 of the 18 available elimination votes. The former Australian Idol contestant said it was an awful experience having everyone come for her at once.
“Basically, they’re ganging up and bullying. That’s what they’re doing,” she told Chattr. “It was absolutely horrible, and I know you’re watching TV [and you think], ‘Oh, it’s just television’. But when you when you’re in that situation, it’s hard.”
She added that people may assume it was producers who encouraged the contestants to be so harsh towards her, but stressed that wasn’t the case.
“There was no prompting. They were just cameras and producers were just standing back and watching, and they’re literally just watching the game unfold. And the Faithfuls are booting out their own without any help from anyone?” she said.
Cosima said that she’s worried for Henry now — who openly campaigned against Kirby during the Episode 3 round table — because she believes the reason her fellow contestants voted against her was because she had started talking strategy that morning.
“I know that I spoke at breakfast, and it was the first time I was actually quite vocal, and it clearly it freaked out some of the players because I was all of a sudden I’ve gone from being really quiet [to being targeted],” she explained.
“But I just knew that Manaaki, he picked all three of them, he had picked the Traitors, and I was just trying to get everyone in the game and to rally. And I was really hoping they would do that, but instead they they cast a shadow on me.”
Where does Cosima stand with her fellow The Traitors contestants now?
Cosima said that while she knows that The Traitors is a game, she can’t help but still feel a little hurt by how much she was targeted during her last round table, and said it has affected her friendship with most of the people who voted her out.
“When it happened at the time, I was really angry, and they were messaging me after going. ‘Oh, I’m so sorry,’ but I’m just like, ‘I hate you,'” She laughed.
She added that she’s on amicable terms with Luke and Josh, but she hasn’t forgetten about what happened.
“Look, we talk. So much time has passed that we’ve kind of buried the hatchet, but I’m still annoyed,” she said.
Cosima shared that she was grateful for Dicko, who was the only contestant to stand up for her at the round table. Dicko and Cosima first met way back in 2003 when he was a judge on her season of Australian Idol.
“We have a history. I’ve got someone here that’s got my back, and again, he had my back last night. 23 years later, on national TV, on Channel 10, he tried to save me again. Because, I came into Australian Idol as the 12th contestant, but I was the judges’ choice. So it was uncanny that the same thing happened again and he stood up for me again. It was brilliant. I would have always had his back, even if I thought he was a Traitor.”
She added that while she and Dicko haven’t caught up since filming The Traitors, she’ll always have a bond with him.
“It’s one of those things… even if I don’t see him for another five or ten years, there will always be that respect there, and that friendship there, and that loyalty there.”
