The Block 2026 has been plunged into fresh controversy after Tayla and her ‘surrogate father’ Spence have accused Chantel and Wyatt’s team of cheating.
This week, The Block legend Spence is standing in for Rick after he was hospitalised with an infection, and the OG hasn’t wasted any time stirring up drama on site.
On Tuesday night’s episode, Spence claimed that the Cursio Bros came back after hours to do another layer of waterproofing on Chantel and Wyatt’s room. Yikes. A big no-no!
Spence claims he saw them putting on the first coat at 6:30pm, but with the site closing at 8pm, he didn’t feel it was feasible that they could then be tiling at 7:30am the next morning, as Spence pointed out that they needed to wait four hours between first and second coats.
“I reckon they came back later and did a second coat after hours,” Spencer declared, which would be a rule violation. After telling Tayla what he had observed, she quickly labelled them as ‘cheaters’ all season. “House Two has been cheating this whole time… shady sh*t,” Tayla said.
Spence and Tayla confronted the Cursio Bros about what happened. However, one of them had taken a video of himself clearly leaving the site, timestamped at 7:55pm. Wyatt told the team to ‘get out’ of their site, but the conversation raised questions about why he had filmed himself leaving, but Wyatt said the video was for invoicing purposes.
Tayla and Rick exclusively told Chattr about their side of the cheating saga. “I got told that the Cursio Brothers snuck in the side gate at night time after 6 o’clock, and finished tiling,” Tayla alleged. “That’s what I heard. That is the rumour,” she said, confirming that it was Spence who first made the claim.
“That’s instant disqualification,” added Rick.
Tayla told Sev and Courtney about the allegations on Tuesday, who then spread it around the site as Lisa further investigated with the Cursios. Chantel later addressed the cheating allegations, saying it was simply because they were fast and that people were ‘jealous’ of them. However, both Spence and Tayla continued to speculate that the Cursios breached protocol and snuck back in to do a second coat.
Did Wyatt and Chantel’s team cheat on The Block?
Despite the evidence proving their innocence, Tayla still has suspicions. “How did they do that in time?” she asked. “I’m literally just saying it how it is. It just doesn’t make sense. The fact that they did the base, and then they laid the mat, and then you’ve got to wait for this, and then you’ve got to do… it is still confusing.”
Rick added his own theory. “They probably just went and turned the heaters on or something. You don’t know, but they shouldn’t have been allowed to do that.”
That said, the cheating allegation wasn’t so much about the team, as Tayla said she thought Chantel and Wyatt were doing everything above board — even if they worked remarkably quicker than the other teams.
“I think they were doing everything right,” Tayla said, but Rick added that he believed the Cursios were their golden ticket. “They had the Cursio brothers, so of course they were going to smash it. Their rooms were very minimalistic, or whatever you call it. There wasn’t much in their rooms,” he said.
“I think the Cursio brothers pretty much project-managed that whole job,” claimed Rick.
This was something Tayla agreed with. “You never know what goes on behind closed doors either, especially when there are no cameras around. I reckon yes, Dad, you’re correct.”
This is a similar claim that Lisa previously made to Chattr about how much the Cursio brothers had helped Chantel and Wyatt.
“I think it’s safe to say if House Two didn’t have the Cursios, they probably wouldn’t have finished a room a lot of the time because they left early all the time,” Lisa told Chattr in an exclusive interview. “They literally project-managed House Two the whole way… they had a massive advantage.”
This claim was echoed in Rick’s thoughts on the divisive team. “They did leave early quite a lot of time, and just left it to the Cursio brothers to finish,” Rick added. “Now, how the hell they paid for that? I don’t know how the Cursios ended up with House Two.”
Chantel has vehemently denied these claims. “That is a load of bulls**t. The project management was done solely by Wyatt and I,” Chantel told Chattr.
“I have a small team of three children at home that I manage. Wyatt has exceptional time management skills and the discipline to keep moving when he doesn’t want to. We are a great team.”
In response to Chantel saying on Tuesday’s episode that the other teams are ‘jealous’ of them, Tayla told Chattr: “Bless their souls, but I’m not.”
The Block airs on Sundays at 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
