The Block fans have been left scratching their heads over Wyatt and Chantel’s vibe this season, with viewers questioning why the couple signed up for the renovation competition if they seemingly “don’t want to be there”.
A discussion on Reddit titled “Why did Chantel and Wyatt apply for The Block… and say they don’t want to be there?” sparked debate among fans, with some accusing the pair of chasing fame, while others defended them and argued they have been unfairly judged.
Some viewers claimed the couple appeared uninterested in the competition, with one Reddit user writing: “Just wannabes looking for some airtime. Don’t give up your day jobs.”
Another fan said Chantel’s repeated comments about not caring had turned them off the couple.
“Chantel’s attitude pisses me off — every time she says ‘I don’t care’, I dislike her more,” they wrote.
Why did Chantel and Wyatt apply for the block and then this whole show haven’t cared about what they are doing and say they dont want to be there?

Others questioned whether Wyatt and Chantel had the work ethic needed for The Block, with one viewer claiming they were only able to get through the season because of help from fellow contestants.
“They don’t give a shit because their egos aren’t being stroked,” they said. “People keep saying they are chill and that’s only happened because the Cursio brothers have pulled them through all season.”
Another added: “They’re like influencers. Just there for the clout, I reckon.”
Fans defend Wyatt and Chantel’s reasons for joining
However, not everyone agreed with the criticism, with some fans pointing out that many The Block contestants sign up for the same reasons — the chance at life-changing prize money and exposure.
“I imagine they came on the show for the same reason other contestants over the 22 years of The Block have — the lure of making big money that changes their lives,” one fan wrote.
“Also, for the exposure for their small businesses. As for not wanting to be there, how many contestants over the years have we seen say the same thing when things went wrong or the stress started to get to them?”

Others argued that, regardless of their personality, Wyatt and Chantel have consistently delivered completed rooms.
“Give them their dues, they did complete some good rooms,” one viewer said. “They may have been bland and soulless to me, and they may have had a lot of help from the Cursios, but they completed the house.”
Another fan suggested Chantel’s attitude may have been shaped by the pressure of the competition and everything happening behind the scenes.
“I think she was very enthusiastic when she started, but eventually when all you get is criticism and complaints I would too want to just finish up,” they said. “I think people’s energy matches what they get.”
Are Wyatt and Chantel refusing to take feedback?
Some viewers argued the issue wasn’t that the couple were struggling, but that they appeared unwilling to adapt after receiving criticism from the judges.
“I think constructive criticism is different to complaints,” one fan responded. “Some of their rooms are so awful due to her inability to style adequately. Then they’ve both dug their heels in over time and consistently asserted they love their ‘style’ and have refused to take any of the judges’ feedback on board.”
However, others pushed back, arguing their results speak for themselves.
“What are you blabbering on about?” one viewer wrote. “They are one of the few couples that always finish because of their work ethic and organisational skills. Just because they don’t incessantly moan and bitch doesn’t mean they don’t care.”
When another fan questioned Wyatt’s work ethic, replying, “Wyatt couldn’t even handle a half-empty wheelbarrow,” another pointed out that the couple had managed to finish even without constant help.
“At the start, I thought a lot of the reasons why they finished was because of the Cursios,” they said. “But for rooms where there were no Cursios, they still got it done on time.”
Fans share theory about Wyatt and Chantel
Some viewers also suggested Wyatt and Chantel’s attitude shifted after they felt they were portrayed negatively on screen.
“Considering how they’ve spent the entire season being portrayed as the villains with no redemption arc, they probably realised after that first incident how bad television actually is,” one fan wrote.
“They seemed really excited in the beginning and then over time, they lost their individual spark.”
Another agreed, saying Chantel in particular appeared more guarded as the competition went on.
“I think they’ve been very guarded on camera, particularly Chantel, because they got a taste of how things could get spun on them very early,” they said.
“I don’t particularly like some of the things they’ve said along the way, but no more than the others.”

Despite the backlash, some fans pointed out that the couple’s ability to consistently complete their rooms proves they are still serious contenders.
“Aren’t they the first team to finish every week?” one viewer asked. “They must be doing something right.”
With The Block finale approaching, it seems fans remain split on whether Wyatt and Chantel are misunderstood competitors or simply a couple who checked out before the finish line.
The Block airs Sunday – Wednesday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
