Meet MasterChef 2026's youngest contestant Luke Harris, who's already a fan fave

Will he go all the way?

MasterChef Australia 2026 may have only just kicked off, but Luke Harris is already dominating screen time and winning fans over, thanks to his effortless charm and impressive cooking talent.

During the MasterChef season premiere, he blew judges Poh Ling Yeow, Jean-Christophe Novelli, Andy Allen and Sofia Levin, away with his highly-technical Bombe Alaska. The complex dessert consists of ice cream placed on a sponge cake, which is encased in meringue, and browned with a blowtorch.

“Can i just tell you, I wouldn’t have done it in ninety minutes, it’s insane,” Poh told Luke at the judging dish. However, the judges were blown away when they cut into his almost-perfectly crafted creation, and even more so when they tasted it.

While the dish proved Luke’s serious culinary chops, what’s even more impressive is his age — at just 19, he’s the youngest contestant in the MasterChef Australia 2026 kitchen.

So, does the young gun have what it takes to make it all the way to the end and be crowned the winner of MasterChef Australia 2026? Here’s everything we know about him.

Luke is from a small beach town in Western Australia

Luke is a country boy, he was born in the small coastal town of Geraldton which is located about six hours north of Perth in Western Australia.

While Luke recently moved out of his family home in Geraldton, and made the move to Perth to study a Bachelor of Education, focused on high school maths, his cooking roots date back to his childhood. He credits both his parents and one of this high school food teacher, who sparked his passion for cooking.

“The reason I love food is because of others,” he told The Geraldton Guardian. “If I can inspire the next generation like I was inspired, that’s enough for me.”

What made Luke decide to audition for MasterChef Australia?

While Luke’s culinary skills are clear to all of those around him, he hasn’t considered auditioning for the popular cooking show until someone he knew encouraged him.

“I always thought I would never stand a chance in a million years. That was until, out of the blue, a friend messaged me about applying, and for whatever reason I took that leap,” he said.

He told The Geraldton Guardian that his initial application led to a series of interviews and auditions, progressing from video submissions to in-person stages before he was told he’d made it to the top 40. That mean he was officially on the show, and in the third episode his Bombe Alas ka scored him a ticket into the top 24. Luke shared that he felt overwhelmed when he stepped into the famous MasterChef kitchen for the first time.

“It was a baptism of fire,” he said. “We’d never used the equipment, didn’t know what was in the pantry, and then suddenly you hear ‘your time starts now’ and you realise you’re cooking for your life.”

Luke is already a MasterChef Australia fan favourite

Luke’s quickly become a favourite amongst viewers, with posts on the official MasterChef Australia Instagram account quickly being flooded with praise for the young chef.

“Rock on mate, you’re going to be a crowd pleaser with your attitude and skill,” one fan wrote on a clip of his Bombe Alaska. “You are amazing!” Another wrote.

Although Luke was sent into the second elimination round — which was a pressure test set by guest judge Maggie Beer — he was determined to redeem himself and blew the judges away with his beef bourguignon pie with a potato mash and a horseradish sauce.

“I knew Luke would ace the challenge,” a dedicated fan wrote on a clip of Luke cooking in the challenge.

MasterChef Australia airs Sunday 7pm and Monday and Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel 10 and 10Play.
