We’ve come to know and love Tristan Gorey as his Home and Away character Levi Fowler, but did you know he actually auditioned for two other roles before becoming Summer Bay’s resident doctor? While we can’t imagine him as anybody else, he actually auditioned for Theo Poulos (Matt Evans) and Remi Carter (Adam Rowland).
“I actually auditioned for Theo, and I auditioned for Remi. And I didn’t get close on either of those, but I’m neither of those characters, and I’m much [closer] to Levi. So, glad to be Levi,” Tristan revealed during a Cameo Q&A. “And I get to work with Emily Weir [who plays Mackenzie] like constantly, so it’s a gift.”
Tristan shared more details about his audition process for Levi, and it sounds nerve-racking. His first task was to film a self-tape, which he did with fellow actor Blake Richardson, who now plays Beau Hammond on Home and Away.
“We do what’s called a self-tape, so we do it at home. And [Blake] was reading opposite, and we were just howling with laughter at how ridiculous it was, I was taping for Home and Away,” Tristan recalled.
His next step was to head to Sydney for a chemistry test with Emily, who would become his eventual love interest. Tristan was the last actor to go in and meet the producers and director, and he remembers being extremely nervous and quiet. “I was sh*tting myself inside,” he joked.
“We did the test, and yeah, I looked good with her, she looked good with me, and they picked me, and I feel very, very lucky. What a journey it’s been.”

What is Tristan Gorey’s dream role aside from Home and Away?
While Tristan seems content on Home and Away, he would love to do a “long-running series” and something historical.
“There’s a great show called SAS Rogue Heroes, and it’s about the formation of the SAS during the Second World War, like, they fight the Nazis,” Tristan spilled.
“That would just be so much fun, doing scenes in that context, out in the desert or whatever, that’d just be so cool.”
The Home and Away actor is interested in the subject matter, costumes, vehicles and how different it feels from real life.
“Something like that would be a lot of fun. I think any classic literature would be cool to delve into, but there’s a lot of great stuff out there these days,” he added.
He also hopes to do a horror movie at some point, and is playing with the idea of directing and writing a short horror film.
Home and Away airs Mondays – Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
