Australian Idol 2024: Everything you need to know about true blue Aussie camel farmer, Trent

From Camel farm to the Australian Idol stage

Trent Richardson may have grown up on a Camel farm in QLD but he sure looks at home on the Australian Idol stage.

While he presents as a confident 22-year-old, when he first stepped into the spotlight, he was nursing a broken heart and some uncertainty about fame.

“I’ve always sung, but I’ve had a lot of self-doubts and been told I’m no good,” he said in an interview with Channel 7. “So to do it for myself and my dad is awesome.”

Trent’s dad, John says his son was a “good kid” and “a true blue Aussie”.

“He always had a bit of a kick, he’d be jumping around, he’d be singing. I think that’s what got him into his singing career,” John said during the same interview.

Hailing from Emu Park, Trent joined his family business at a young age and at age 11, he was working alongside John doing camel rides for tourists.

In fact, in 2012, he was interviewed by The Courier Mail!

“They’re very friendly and they like to eat a lot,” he said of his camels. “They’ll eat whatever is put in front of them!” Ha! Love this.

Now, you can catch him on Australian Idol — a far cry from his family farm.

Australian Idol continues at 7.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays on Channel 7 and 7plus.
