Former Home and Away star Orpheus Pledger on the run from police following assault charges

He was arrested in March

Former Home and Away actor Orpheus Pledger has failed to appear at a bail hearing on assault charges.

Orpheus, who played Mason Morgan on the soap from 2016 – 2019, was arrested in relation to an alleged assault on March 27, as per News.com.au.

The thirty-year-old was escorted by police from jail to Royal Melbourne Hospital early in the morning on Tuesday, April 23 to undergo a mental health assessment. A court has heard that Orpheus waited for around five hours, before walking out of the doctor’s practice, which is against his bail conditions.

Orpheus is still missing, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

The court heard in a hearing that Melbourne Magistrate Justin Foster had “bent over backwards” to approve the hospital visit.

“I’ll never make an order like that again … (I) bent over backwards to try and offer someone mental health treatment as they require,” he told the court on Tuesday.

Orpheus was arrested after a triple-0 call was made by a woman from a suburban Melbourne home at 1:35am on March 25.

The woman was taken to hospital, and found to have bruising, small lacerations to her cheek, and bruising to her neck, which police alleged indicated strangling.

A 25-second clip was played to Magistrate Justin Foster in court, who said: “It’s reasonably clear that he stomped on (the woman’s) head.”

Pledger’s bail was revoked for his case to be heard again on May 10.
