Interview: Mirror Mirror’s Todd Sampson had an enema on TV and it went as badly as you’d expect

"That's why my kids don't watch my shows"

Todd Sampson is doing the Lord’s work by testing out popular detoxing methods on camera in the two-part documentary series Mirror Mirror.

One of his most drastic procedures was the Enema he undertook which played out on Mirror Mirror: Are You Well. During an interview on Mediaweek and Chattr’s The Entertainment Hotline Podcast, Sampson opened up about just how confronting it was – and what else happened that wasn’t shown on TV.

“Never in my life did I think I’d end up getting an enema on television! My director, Jeff, who’s also my best friend, was like, ‘Oh God, this is what my life has come to? I’m filming them hosing Todd, on television, it was so awkward,” he laughed.

Sampson went into graphic detail about how the doctor got the hose in, erm, position for the procedure.

“The funniest part I couldn’t get it in the edit because it was so fast,” he said. “When I was lying there. I was really nervous and [the nurse] was very sweet, she was very informative.”

“Then she goes, ‘Oh, give me your hands because we’re going to do it together’,” he recounted. “And as soon as she touched my hand, in goes the hose. I looked at [the nurse], and I’m like, No, we did not do that together. Wow. Okay, that just happened. We kind of missed that moment.”

“As soon as she touched my hand… Boom. That’s why my kids don’t watch my shows.”

He thinks celebrities influence the general public to try drastic health procedures

Sampson believes that some celebrities have their own agenda for pushing popular wellness trends onto their influenceable followers.

He singled out Gwenyth Paltrow, who owns the lifestyle brand Goop and who has positioned herself as somewhat of a wellness warrior.

“I don’t know her. Either, Gwyneth Paltrow is a somewhat loving, kind, naive person who is just doing everything to help other people and that’s her sole focus in life, or she is a clever, somewhat ruthless capitalist who washed her hands of the outcomes. Maybe it’s somewhere in the middle, but I want to believe she’s on that side,” he said.

Back in 2015, Paltrow advised women to “steam clean” their vaginas, however, experts have since debunked the idea and said it is healthy.

“When you look at it, one should not be steaming the vagina. Radical detoxing, we should not be doing,” Sampson said. “The doctors around the world who have smaller voices are saying: ‘No, no, no, please. No.’ And yet, millions and millions of people follow.”

Mirror Mirror: Are You Well? premieres Wednesday, November 22 7.30 pm On 10 And 10 Play.
