It’s episode four of The Summit and the Trekkers are now a day behind. With just 7 days left to get to the pinnacle — and a whopping $785,000 in prize money on their backs — it’s time to hustle!
The First Obstacle
Phillip takes charge as the group hikes across jaw-dropping ravines, and slippery bushland while abseiling down a subzero waterfall and all before sundown!
Crawling on ropes over a daunting ravine while facing down, Phillip takes charge, courageous enough to face his fear of heights, consequently earning major street cred with the rest of the group.
Annikki is slowing the group down and exposing herself as one of the weaker members. But, wait… two of the strongest hikers, Sam and Alex, also struggle with the crossing, proving that physical strength isn’t always an advantage.
Alex is lugging around the group’s stolen cash while dealing with his old footy injuries but still manages to cross to the other side. However, during the last crossing, Jans is in for a rude awakening when the Mountain’s Keeper pays him a surprise visit. Jans, being cocky as ever, decides to taunt her, setting off a chain of events that’ll deeply affect the group.
Sam, our fitness-obsessed friend, becomes impatient and upset during the hike to the waterfall. It was pretty slippery and wet, and the slower members of the group were struggling.
Driven by ego, Sam forgets the plan for him to bookend the group, with Alex noticing.
The crew reached a dangerous waterfall in a remote, frigid location, raising the stakes for their physical safety.
Annikki struggled again, as Isaac’s past abseiling accident froze him in fear at the top of the falls, risking hypothermia for the whole group who made it down safely.
Josh advocated for cutting Isaac loose from the game, but Alex convinced Isaac to try the descent. While Isaac made it down, he was visibly shaken and declared he wanted to leave the mountain.
The Checkpoint Elimination — 100km to The Summit
Isaac and Alex chat on their hike to the checkpoint, and the warm conversation convinces Isaac to stay. He’s now determined to prove himself to his “mob” back home and decides the money would be a game-changer for his big family.
To make it to The Summit, Isaac needs to convince the group he’s got what it takes.
They get to a checkpoint, it’s a highly emotional moment and the group votes to send Annikki home, but Isaac makes it through another day on the mountain.
The morning after, the group finds out the hard way what happens when you taunt the Mountain’s Keeper. She’s on her way to chase them down!
The Summit continues at 7.30pm on 9 and 9Now.
