“I was shocked”: Julia Morris’ “angry” response to Dr Chris Brown’s I’m a Celebrity exit

Julia Morris has opened up about how she felt when her long-time I’m A Celebrity Australia… Get Me Out Of Here co-host Chris Brown told her he was leaving the show.

After co-hosting the popular series alongside Julia since its inception in 2015, Chris announced that he was leaving Channel 10 to join Network Seven in February 2023.

While Julia publicly supported Chris’ career move and shared an emotional tribute to him on his final episode of I’m A Celebrity, she’s now revealed that she was hurt when she found out he was leaving.

“I was shocked, I was angry, but I was also fine because it’s what my friend needed to do. It was a super confusing time,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle Australia.

“But off he goes to renovate and travel, so that’s gonna be amazing. I love him dearly though, we both do. We’ve all been mates for years,” she added.

Julia was worried she’d lose her job when Chris left

The I’m A Celebrity co-host said that while she understood her colleague’s decision, she was worried that his choice to leave could leave her career in the lurch.

“I’m a 56-year-old woman in showbiz, I’m lucky to be still clinging on to a job, you know what I’m saying?” she said.

“So when he said he was going to retire from the show, I was like, ‘Oh no great because I’ve got so many opportunities ahead of me. I think going into a much smaller apartment will also work for the family,'” she joked.

Who else auditioned for Chris Brown’s role?

Until now, who auditioned for the role of Julia Morris’ co-host position on I’m A Celebrity Australia has been very much an industry secret.

However, Julia has now revealed that “around six” well-known Australian personalities gunning for the job.

“There were a lot of presenters that I have worked with, some for years, some not for as long, but there were a lot of fantastic guys and girls that came along to try their hand and see how the double thing would work,” she said.

The comedian said that it was a no-brainer to pick Robert Irwin as the replacement for Chris’s role.

“Then Robert came in, and absolutely no judgment to everybody else who was fabulous in their own right, but everyone dissolved immediately and everybody knew it. The production team, network, me, we all literally just went, ‘Okay, well now it can’t be anybody else’.”

“I don’t know how and why it’s already working so beautifully,” she detailed. “I think we’ve already got a great friendship established so the rest is now going to be fun. Now we have fun. I’m learning along the way from Robert, which is fantastic.”
