Roll out the red carpet! Here’s how to watch the 95th Academy Awards in Australia

Cheer on our Aussies who are up for 10 awards!

The 95th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) have finally arrived, and you can watch it from the comfort of your home right here in Australia!

Honouring the best of film in 2022, the awards ceremony closes out a season of accolades that have seen epic wins across film and television.

This year, 10 Oscar nominations have gone to Aussies, including eight-time Academy Award-nominee Cate Blanchett, the favourite in the Best Actress category for her BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning performance in the psychological drama, Tár.

Director Baz Luhrmann and his four-time Oscar-winning wife Catherine Martin — both producers of the Elvis Presley biopic Elvis — are up for eight awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design and Best Cinematography.

Plus, 26-year-old Brisbane film student Lachlan Pendragon has been nominated for Best Animated Short Film for An Ostrich Told Me The World Is Fake, and I Think I Believe It. Unbelievable!

How and when to watch the 95th Annual Oscars in Australia

While previous years have seen Channel 9 lead the charge, in 2023, Seven will deliver free and live ceremony coverage right to your doorstep.

The awards will take place on March 13, 2023 (AEDT), with coverage beginning at 5.30 am on Sunrise.

Special guest (and Seven staple) Sonia Kruger will report live from the star-studded red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, crossing live to the breakfast and morning teams.

However, if you’re keen to just tune in to the star-studded ceremony, coverage will begin at 11.00 am AEDT on Channel 7 and 7plus, with an encore screening at 8.45 pm after Australian Idol’s live verdict show.

Who is hosting the Oscars in 2023?

Jimmy Kimmel Live! host Jimmy Kimmel will return as host for the first time since 2018, with Rihanna (fresh off her Superbowl performance) performing her Oscar-nominated song Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Grammy-winning musician Lenny Kravitz will deliver the In Memoriam performance, while a star-studded list of presenters will hand out the coveted gold statue! They include Riz Ahmed, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Jennifer Connelly, Ariana DeBose, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Troy Kotsur, Jonathan Majors, Melissa McCarthy, Janelle Monáe, Deepika Padukone, Questlove, Zoe Saldaña and Donnie Yen.

Who is nominated for an Academy Award?

Already sweeping up awards season is Everything Everywhere All at Once, who is nominated for Best Picture alongside The Banshees of InisherinThe FabelmansTárTop Gun: MaverickAvatar: The Way of WaterElvisAll Quiet on the Western FrontWomen Talking and Triangle of Sadness.
